The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

I thought William had said he has no faith? I phrased it badly though, sorry. They either have to have faith or pretend they do.

No he hasn't.

I think some posters are trying to impute their own feelings to others, in the hope they can make them say what they really think themselves - which is why your responses have been “given a coat of gloss.”

A coat of thick gloopy creosote more like! 🤣🤣

bluegreygreen · 22/04/2025 12:12

Interestingly Charles, with his own deep personal faith alongside his philosophical interest in history and religions, might have been the best person to start the process of separation between church and state. I suspect he may not have the time needed.

I don’t know. Destabilising the U.K., is there a pattern? After Brexit I’m more wary I suppose. (And the comments I got when going to get my EU citizenship and passport which I was fully entitled to & that was definitely anti uk).

And the changing of narrative about this particular one of William not attending church, he did and then the narrative changed to well he should have met well wishers. Don’t know just seemed a bit off to me. Or I’m seeing stuff that isn’t there <shrug>.

Catching up. I think the anti William stuff comes mainly from those who favour the Sussexes. They seem to see the Waleses as the main “enemy”. I don’t think it’s as deep as political manoeuvres. Just over zealous fans

justasking111 · 22/04/2025 12:52

I'm no fan of the sussexes but to be dodging responsibility when your elderly father being treated for cancer stoically plods on between treatments is difficult to defend.

What responsibility has he dodged, please?

Nah, it’s just bias when you (not you personally) are having a pile on on someone you don’t like and changing the goal posts (like others on here have been doing).

People are entitled to call William out if they think he is lazy etc. But on this occasion, they were wrong about the church thing and some people can’t admit when they’re wrong.

Go tell all the posters on the H&M threads then, go on lrtd see what response you get. Consistent posters repeatedly piling on someone everyday for years! We aren't talking a few comment sthos threads go onto what 4 or 5, that's 5000 comments of which 99% are nasty comments. How many thousand of comments are made about William and Kate? Did that kate thread go on for 3,4 5 etc. Threads?

You don't go round making this same comment onto those threads so who is biased now? This board is biased when you see that. Free right pile on some people all the time but God forbid there are comments about others.

Very dismissive of legitimate opinions. Can obviously only speak for myself, but my view of William is not affected by my view of Harry. I think they’re both pretty awful in different ways. Am sure both of them have their good points too.

But no, I don’t think people only dislike William because they are Harry fanboys.

Edited

People pile on Harry and Meghan because of their own actions.

William and Catherine don’t give interviews slagging their family and roles.

William and Catherine don’t monetise their royal connections.

William and Catherine haven’t been accused of bullying by several different people (on different continents).

William and Catherine have never been publicly accused of being grifters.

William and Catherine have never been accused of being inauthentic because they are constantly rebranding themselves to make cash.

This is opinion.

But calling William out for not going to church when he did actually go to church and questioning his faith based on no evidence whatsoever, is biased. You’re picking and choosing the bits you want to see because it suits your narrative that William is the bad guy.

You can say that William and Catherine are lazy all you want. That’s fair. That’s opinionS
But don’t act like you’re oblivious as to why people criticise Harry and Meghan and why people are calling out yours and others bias when you are clutching at straws about why you dislike William (coz he didn’t go to church - except when he did).

Hardly “dismissive” of opinions. Just stating a general pattern 😊

wordler · 22/04/2025 13:46

OMG - it is absolutely NOT widely known that William has no faith/belief or that he is not interested in the Church.

All of those articles about him ALL of the speculation about William’s personal beliefs on religion can be traced back to one royal author who was trying to flog his latest book which is actually about Charles recently.

He speculated that because William hasn’t talked publicly about spirituality by now, in contrast to his father who had talked a lot about faith in his 40s that perhaps William doesn’t have a strong faith and perhaps that might mean he’d not want to be head of the CoE.

Then for the sake of click bait headlines many papers ran with the speculation and use it as a hook anytime they want to talk about religion and the royal family.

It then gets repeated over and over again on threads like this with posters saying they ‘read somewhere’ that William is an atheist.

Yes - you read it on here - from posters who keep repeating it without any basis for truth.

Legitimate criticism of William is fair. I know a lot of people think he is lazy and back their opinions up. Thats fair.

But attacking him when they didn’t think he went to church, only for them to double down after finding out he did go to church (publicity stunt, he did it for good PR, how convenient it got leaked should have supported his sick dad not his wife, he’s paying lip service and he’s not even a real Christian - all stuff that I’ve seen on this board over the weekend) is just pure bias shit posting and stinks of being Harry and Meghan fanboys. Same with the pile on of Catherine for being ‘missing’ when she had already announced she was recuperating from surgery and was clearly very unwell.

I’m not including you in this as I legitimately cannot remember what you have posted on this thread 🥰

HufflebuffsAreOn · 22/04/2025 13:53

This debate is going round in circles. So many posts, my own included, on William and now Harry, and the whole OP about Fergie when yet again the fact that Andrew was there is the outrageous bit. And don't give @ me saying it was a private, family event. Of course they can keep him away. It is sickening how his behaviour is overlooked.

Extiainoiapeial · 22/04/2025 14:10

Totally agree. He either has threatened something (there was talk of him doing a book, supposedly about his naval career but who knows)
or
They just think he is a top fella who has been unlucky but has done nothing wrong.

myrtleWilson · 22/04/2025 14:15

I agree with @wordler that the 'is PW religious' stems from Robert Hardman's book plus comments from QE2's former chaplain.
However, on the back of trying to understand where this all came from, I've ended up reading some interesting articles about potential discomfort with the structure of the institution of the Church and others (linking to discomfort) contrasting with patronages which favour social justice - specifically homelessness - The Passage for example takes inspiration from Vincent de Paul who focused on 'faith in action'.

Perhaps its worth a thread - Royals and Religion to discuss in a non nitpicking way the historic, current and potential relationships across the two R's. Am happy to start but don't have the knowledge to contribute a great deal to get us going!

Needspaceforlego · 22/04/2025 14:18

I don't actually know how anyone can say someone does or doesn't have faith.

I have faith but find church boring, I don't mind the hymns but the rest of it bores the pants off me. Therefore I don't go to church.

Meanwhile I'm sure there are people who probably do waver in their faith but go to services because it's the 'done thing' within their community. And stepping away from it isn't just stepping back from the faith it's stepping back from the community.

Livpool · 22/04/2025 14:21

I’m more concerned about Andrew being there. He needs to disappear

ThisFluentBiscuit · 22/04/2025 14:24

Insiders have leaked that William is not religious. His lack of attendance at regular Sunday services would seem to confirm this.

BemusedAmerican · 22/04/2025 14:24

On a lighter note, I keep thinking of an episode in "The Windsors". Charles decides to prove his openness to other religions by attending a service at The local Church of Satan, and ends up getting possessed by Satan. An infuriated Camilla tells Charles that he should just stop meddling before performing an exorcism.

After we stopped laughing, my siblings and I reflected on the fact that this episode was shown without the RF trying to sue.

Church should be a place anyone is welcome. Even Andrew. I hope he learnt something from the sermon.

Well maybe he needs to pray for forgiveness.

He did something 20 plus years ago. He's paid a heavy price financially and his names mud. People do less time for murder.

Easter is time for forgiveness.

No problem with him going to church. I have a problem with the royal family visibly supporting him.

The Windsors is brilliant!

Camilla is a classic pantomime villain, fag in one hand, g&t in the other

Charles is out of touch and hugely privileged but doesn’t seem aware of it

William is out of touch and hugely privileged but does some to be somewhat aware of it - I love it when he gets the citizens of Poundbury to revolt against Charles 🤣

Catherine is so boringly perfect they get her mixed up with a stepford wife robot

Harry is just dumb

Meghan is a master class in woke word salad nonsense

My favourites are Pippa, Beatrice and Eugenie! Honestly I recommend everyone watches it.
