The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

It's interesting how much you dislike William (Harry is this you?)

The thing is he's very popular - only just slightly less popular than Catherine.

In one poll when people were asked who they'd like to be President if the UK was a republic the top answer was Prince William.

He's even the most popular public figure in the USA - voted by both Dems and Repubs.

Whatever he's doing - it's clearly working for most people.

I actually like W very, very much. I think he and Catherine are lovely and that we are lucky to have them. But they're not immune to criticism, and they shouldn't be. (Well, after what Catherine's been through, I hope she does whatever she wants to do for the rest of her life, quite frankly.) PW should not be above criticism, and as much as I like him, I'm not impressed by him failing to be a major part of the church's Easter celebrations.

If W was a regular church-goer, we would absolutely know about it.

Why would we. I assume if he goes he goes with his children. We actually rarely see the children except at certain events?
so it would have to be done in a way thats under the radar?

ThisFluentBiscuit · 22/04/2025 17:21

I'm afraid I can't remember what KC did on each Easter. But he should have been at the biggest Easter service with the Queen, yes, imo.

My personal beliefs have nothing to do with the fact that I think the next head of the church should be making a fuss about Easter.

Celebrating Easter is not about making a fuss. It is remembering key events in Christianity, a faith whose holy book specifically says that no one should make a public show of their faith. With that in mind William, and Charles before him, got it absolutely correct and in line with the faith of the church they Head.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 22/04/2025 17:29

"The next head of the church should be a major part of the church's Easter celebrations."

How on earth is this a controversial opinion?? The fact that it's been called "strange" and has received such pushback just goes to show how low our standards are as a society. It's such a logical and reasonable opinion.

But as long as he puts himself first and makes himself comfortable, who cares??

Off to smoke a bong and shake my bum at the neighbours. 😂 After all, "it's just a bum!"

wordler · 22/04/2025 17:32

I suspect the biggest Easter celebrations were held in London's cathedrals.

The monarch always does the smaller family service at Windsor.

Charles didn't attend for 18 YEARS in Windsor before the Queen died.

He and Camilla worshipped in Scotland.

William and Kate have regularly attended the Windsor service with the late Queen.

William and Kate worshipped in Norfolk this year.

All heirs and spouses going to church and practicising their faith.

Still not seeing the reason for your outrage.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 22/04/2025 17:33

He wasn't going to go at all. I bet Kate persuaded him into it for form's sake.

Now you are just making things up. Barring sickness he's always gone to the Easter service somewhere.

Why are you assuming the plan wasn't always to attend church in Sandringham.

The reason they didn't announce it was to reduce the crowds turning up to see them. If they'd made a big deal about it and been photographed you know the newspapers would have splashed Kate and the kids all over the front pages instead of Charles and Camilla. They were clearly trying not to take the attention away from the King. That's a very supportive thing to do, in my opinion.

You are making shit up now.

I don’t think they wake up and say - I’m going here today- I think every single thing they do is planned in advance now.

Did Harry go to a CofE service seeing as he is 5th in line still, or should he step down too?

Oooh you have psychic abilities now too? Tell me, did Harry and Meghan go to church too this Easter? Genuinely curious as they used to attend services in the UK and Meghan was baptised and confirmed into the Church of England when she joined the family.

Or are going to admit it’s all supposition and you don’t actually know whether William is a regular church going Christian or whether he is Atheist. Just like you don’t know he wasn’t going to go in the first place 😆

Im just going to say it how it is. You are telling big fat lies!

"Making shit up." Such gross language. Why can't you say "making things up" or even something more creative? The large amount of references to poo in our culture makes me want to heave, especially the endless references to "BS,' which is especially foul, and not a word I ever think to use, it's so disgusting.

Continuing on from my post about ever-decreasing standards as a whole, it's harder to have standards than not to have them. It takes more effort. That's why people who have standards garner more respect than those who don't.

William, Harry, and Meghan are all non-religious and non-church goers.

Kate has found new faith since her cancer diagnosis.

You're welcome.

You can't literally be wrong about this; it's an opinion. My opinion is that he should have been at the main service supporting his family as the next head of the church. That is quite reasonable and logical.

IMO he should be upholding standards and tradition instead of contributing to this let-it-all-hang-out society we now, have where everyone just makes themselves comfortable no matter what values are sacrificed.

Your "opinion" is wrong and it is unfounded.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 22/04/2025 17:59

wordler · 22/04/2025 17:17

But Charles didn't go to the service at Windsor when his mother was on the throne.

Were you this mad about him too?

Probably didn't even notice, I wager.

You are making crap up - yet you're lecturing posters about "standards"??

People who base their opinions on actual fact "garner more respect than those who don't"!

Such a load of bollocks.

You don’t need to remember. A very helpful poster earlier in the thread gave us the facts about Charles not having attended the Easter Service, at WINDSOR, when his mother was Queen, for 18 years 😊. He worshipped in Scotland instead. He doesn’t seem to have been struck down for this. Not does anyone, apart from you, seem to be bothered

Which one of them told you that?

You did mention "creative" - you are certainly that!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 22/04/2025 18:10

I’m not a republican or a Harry fan. I don’t have an agenda and I’m not trying to destabilise the monarchy. I’m one person with a lot of opinions. I can simultaneously think that Andrew is an arsehole, Harry’s a spoilt brat and William looks miserable all the time, while actually quite liking the monarchy as an institution and liking Charles. Oh, and I think Kate is boring and that they should do all school runs in the golden coach drawn by 6 white horses.

Total derail but my daiquiri but about electing the new Pope is that after a set number of days, if the College of Cardinals hasn't decided, they stop serving them anything but bread and water at meal times. For some reason they tend to reach a decision before that point!

Daquiris! Now you're talking 🍸

themightysossidge · 22/04/2025 18:26

Cynic17 · 22/04/2025 16:49

For all Andrew's perceived or actual faults, he is the King's brother. The King and his family are Christians - of course they should support Andrew. That is the whole point of Christianity..... "hate the sin, love the sinner".
That's why, in the same vein, Pope Francis washed and kissed the feet of convicted criminals.

Yeah but he pinched that idea from someone else !

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I didn't, but lots of the media - including Town and Country and Tatler, so not rags - have talked a lot in the past few days about how the RF always goes to the Windsor service on Easter Sunday and then has roast lamb together at Windsor Castle. If Prince Charles didn't join in with this for 18 years, then yes, I would consider that very odd.
