The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

I said it would "leak" if it happened as they were getting bad press

It was shared on insta yesterday by a local firm of solicitors with 550 followers - so not really a press leak!

I think the optics do matter.

Sadly there is such ill will from people who ultimately are not even affected by their role that they can’t afford not to take care of the optics.

People go on about them being tax funded but the actual impact on any one citizen is tiny.

What can have impact is their role in issues they support - and that includes the role of a monarch as Defender of the Faith. But for the work they do with various causes to “ land” the optics do have to be carefully handled.

Individually.no but our taxes collectively is a huge sum of money that if used in NHS or elsewhere would have a better impact even for smaller things like using millions of pounds to fix our roads or build more homes or give more to councils so people in Birmingham don't have binmen striking.

Well it made the papers which is the point.

He probably pushed himself too hard over Easter weekend.

Am I the only one who thinks it is quite moving he held out to give the Easter Blessing? Job done.

Whatever has been implied to the contrary in this thread, Easter is important in the Christian calendar ( arguably more so than Christmas) and, irrespective of one’s personal beliefs, the timing is quite poignant.

myrtleWilson · 21/04/2025 13:35

You said 'leak' though - which implies PPOW/KP leaking the information - not a random solicitor firm contemporaneously sharing that they saw the PPOW leaving church with their 500 follwers. Unless you think the PPOW are now waging guerilla warfare tactics inveigling random social media accounts to breadcrumb their locations

Cost of repairing pot holes is £17bn

Yes, I can understand that stance.
I guess what I really meant is for the RF to maximise the positive impact they have and can have - and I think they can - the optics are important. I actually have the feeling Kate really grasps that, though that’s just a feeling.

CathyorClaire · 21/04/2025 13:41

We are given headline figures. The true cost is far greater and we are not allowed to know it

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdxr2pk997no

We also have the indirect costs to the taxpayer such as duchy funds being diverted from the public purse to private wallets, the skimming of tax payer funded bodies to boost duchy income, the apparently flexible status of the duchies when it comes to tax and immense sums passing free of IHT via monarch to monarch bequests.

I don’t think so. No one knew until they knew.

What it does show is that people were right to feel surprised if he hadn’t - which is what was being reported.

No, they were having private family time. Not all the royals court publicity or have a Netflix team running around after them.

BemusedAmerican · 21/04/2025 13:42

CathyorClaire · 21/04/2025 13:08

I think that may be a stock photo?

The article describes different attire.

Also seems to contradict itself on who saw them?
A large crowd missed them because they left through the back door yet the vicar was somehow seen handing them hot-cross buns as they left.

I'm not doubting they were there but it'd be nice to see a more consistent story given the kicking W has had over his absence from the main event.

If you read the article I posted, there is a photo of W&C that matches the description of what she wore on the article, down to her hat.

It honestly is. I feel that he would actually have been quite happy to perish after going all out for Easter. He would see it as his Christian duty as the Head of the Catholic Church. I’m not going on mock him, he was clearly very ill over the last few weeks.

I could make snide comments about JD Vance killing him off like Liz Truss killed the Queen 🤣

I did.

Photo shows mixed shades of purple coat and blue hat as opposed to the camel coat and brown hat described.

They aren’t children though! Why doesn’t SF get a life of her own?

They are still here family. How does going to church with them at Easter mean she has no life of her own?

I think if William doesn't want something in the UK press then the press don't publish it.

My DDs are certainly a huge part of my life ( I'm probably a smaller part of their lives, which is as it should be).

Social media doesn’t work like that. If someone posts that they’ve seen them, neither the media nor William can stop it from spreading.

Well well well, he did go to church. I think some people on this thread probably feel very silly right about now. I wonder if some posters are going to eat humble pie?

I don't feel the slightest bit silly. Sorry

I am glad he went to local church. So he should have been. I still think he could have been stood alongside his Dad, the King, at Windsor.

No humble pie here. All opinions welcome.

But Charles didn’t go to Windsor at Easter when he was Prince of Wales. The late Queen didn’t seem to mind and the press didn’t make thing of it. Why is it different for William? No one has answered this yet 🤷‍♀️

myrtleWilson · 21/04/2025 14:06

Genuinely, why? @Extiainoiapeial It isn't a three line whip as we've seen PC didn't always attend in Windsor. It is a family occasion, not a royal engagement. However, the press is usually in attendance - in Sandringham there was no press so the family were able to have private family time and still attend church.

ETA include always

justasking111 · 21/04/2025 14:09

Help me out here. In what months or events do the royals formally attend church at the following.

Buckingham palace
Windsor
Sandringham
Balmoral.

I know that. I've said a number of times on here he often was in Scotland with Camilla where they were photographed going to their local church on Easter sunday

So why does it matter that William went to church locally with his wife and children?
