The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

I don't know why you were astonished. It was known beforehand. They went locally.

There you go then. All is well!

Yes I just spotted that. Thankyou !
Amazing that he spoke to his people just yesterday

He probably pushed himself too hard over Easter weekend.

Probably because she's the mother of her former mother-in-law's two 'favourite' grandkids.

Old Liz had a real soft spot for Randy Andy's daughters!

Eugenie and Beatrice are pretty non-controversional

I think they seem lovely and why shouldn’t their Mum attend church with them?

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 21/04/2025 12:47

The Royal Family don't impact on me at all.
They could have invited a clapping seal for all I care.

I was astonished when I knew beforehand ….but thanks for your concern about the timeline of information.
I don’t think the Wales attended church anywhere else - I believe it would have been reported/splashed all over news/papers/online if they had done.

I just find it odd. William could have been helicoptered to Windsor from Norfolk, go to the Easter service, back again ready for Easter egg hunt and Ma Middleton's famous leg of lamb.
Such an easy keep everyone happy attendance.
It just does come across as not caring what people think to me. And it doesn't bode well for the future as far as I'm concerned. Only my opinion.

Late to this party but I agree with this^

Yesterday's optics on both fronts are bad IMO.

We have the reviled Charmless and gurning ex grinning and thumbs-upping the crowds and cameras while our lazy heir dons his invisibility cloak yet again and all this double flipping of the royal bird happening on our dime.

We are mugs.

They do it all the time

Just bought a couple of new choppers to do it in too.

I don’t think anyone knows William’s beliefs do they?

He hasn't laid them out but this is quite an interesting take:

Remember splashing it all over the papers would be a breach of privacy for the kids.
Papers aren't allowed near them while they are under 18, unless on official business.

They may well have gone to church in a more casual jeans & t-shirt style, ready to go egg rolling, rather than the formal collar & ties that is the RF walk to church.

BemusedAmerican · 21/04/2025 12:54

The vicar even gave them hot cross buns ( the vicar must read MN).

BemusedAmerican · 21/04/2025 12:57

They both looked very nicely dressed in the photo in the above article. It may be the last time they can hold a quiet family Easter.

Ohpleeeease · 21/04/2025 12:59

Storm in a teacup then. But it shows how delicately balanced the optics are these days.

HolidayHappy123 · 21/04/2025 13:03

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 00:39

Anyway you don't know that William didn't attend a service - they may have gone to church in the Sandringham area if they were at Anmer

If that's were the case some photos would be realised as the DM readers are not happy!

Media reports that Prince William and his family attended the 11 am service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. There are photos online.

Don’t confuse not joining the family at Windsor with disrespecting the Church at Easter.

My2cents1975 · 21/04/2025 13:03

There are some posts here that would make even the most hypocritical Pharisee blush!

For the non-Christians, the Pharisees were religious leaders who were roundly criticized by Jesus for their focus on performative, outward appearances to appear righteous in front of society rather than private, inner righteousness with God.
Matthew 23: 13-36

When KC3 was the Prince of Wales, KC3 did not attend church at Windsor from 2010 to 2022. But due to ageism, pictures of KC3 do not generate as many clicks as those of Catherine, whose pictures equals money for many. I suspect that most journalists and social media creators were far less concerned about W’s faith and far more concerned about the money they were missing from clicks on pictures of C and the kids…hence the storm in a teacup.

The vicious undertone of some posters, even making up horrible speeches about absent sons, is something to behold. And sadly, it is reminiscent of the hate thrown at C last year. I guess some people learned nothing and are back to being their hyper-critical, hypocritical Pharisee-like selves…all truthiness and no truth!

Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 23 - New International Version

A Warning Against Hypocrisy - Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice...

Actually, I was right when I suggested they would worship in private:

https://www.hellomagazine.com/royalty/827497/prince-william-princess-kates-quiet-easter-plans-middletons-norfolk/

They were able to pray without Andrew

Well well well, he did go to church. I think some people on this thread probably feel very silly right about now. I wonder if some posters are going to eat humble pie?

I think that may be a stock photo?

The article describes different attire.

Also seems to contradict itself on who saw them?
A large crowd missed them because they left through the back door yet the vicar was somehow seen handing them hot-cross buns as they left.

I'm not doubting they were there but it'd be nice to see a more consistent story given the kicking W has had over his absence from the main event.

I don’t think so. No one knew until they knew.

What it does show is that people were right to feel surprised if he hadn’t - which is what was being reported.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 13:14

"Despite a large crowd of well-wishers eagerly gathering outside the church, they were unable to catch sight of the royal family, who left via the back entrance."

why didn't Andrew do that?

I think the optics do matter.

Sadly there is such ill will from people who ultimately are not even affected by their role that they can’t afford not to take care of the optics.

People go on about them being tax funded but the actual impact on any one citizen is tiny.

What can have impact is their role in issues they support - and that includes the role of a monarch as Defender of the Faith. But for the work they do with various causes to “ land” the optics do have to be carefully handled.
