The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

Myrtle Because - in my opinion - (other opinions are available!). I think the Royal Family needs shoring up somewhat at the moment. It would look good for the King and heir to be together at Easter Sunday service (with or without Kate and children, if she needed time out).
That is fine if you think that is a ridiculous idea, it is just what I think at the moment. William not going to Windsor Easter service at all looked bad, (in my opinion). Yes, it is good to hear that William and Kate went to church at Sandringham, I just feel it is disappointing he couldn't stand alongside his Dad who only in February was in hospital for side effects of cancer treatment.

They both looked very nicely dressed in the photo in the above article. It may be the last time they can hold a quiet family Easter.

None of the photos in the Hello magazine article are from today.

The one in the banner - Kate in red coat with a bow at the neck, red hat, pearl necklace - is from the Commonwealth Day Service on 10 March this year.

The one further down the article - Kate wearing a mohair style coat and blue fedora with a feather band is from January 2020. Although she and William were at least walking to the church at Sandringham on that date!

I don't feel the slightest bit silly. Sorry

I am glad he went to local church. So he should have been. I still think he could have been stood alongside his Dad, the King, at Windsor.

No humble pie here. All opinions welcome.

Do you think Charles should have "stood beside" the Queen for the 15 years that he skipped the Easter service to be at Highgrove rather than Windsor?

She wasn't suffering from cancer for 15 years was she

Im sure Charles felt well supported and didn’t mind at all.

But why impose a "tradition" that has never really existed? Charles only rarely ever went to Windsor - he preferred to spend Easter at Highgrove.

What it does show is that people were right to feel surprised if he hadn’t - which is what was being reported.

We wouldn't know about the secret trip of optics didn't matter

Ah, the double-edged sword that is always applied to royals.

Firstly comes the cry: “Everyone has phones nowadays. If they had done XYZ someone would have seen them. So they obviously didn’t do that”.

Closely followed by: “Well they clearly leaked that for good PR” if someone does see them and posts about it/snaps a picture….

Everyone could see she was pretty frail and he didn't go the year she died either in 2022

Extiainoiapeial · 21/04/2025 14:26

Lunde... it was not Highgrove he went to was it? I thought he was at Birkhall in Scotland. Maybe I have that wrong, but I really didn't think it was Highgrove. He used to be photographed at Easter sunday service in Scotland I thought

It's not imposing a 'tradition'. It was just an opinion of mine that others are quite at liberty to disagree with.

What’s that got to do with it? Charles has just been on a State visit to Italy without William. He seems to be coping relatively well with his treatment. Do you think he needs William to prop him up?

BemusedAmerican · 21/04/2025 14:35

It looks like the new PR campaign is to go after William for attending Easter mass at his local church.

I remember vividly when NYC had financial problems in the 1970's and them President Ford refused to bail us out. We also had trash issues.

Is there a reason no one wants to hold their city council or elected officials responsible?

Did Harry and Meghan attend Easter services?

William outwitted the media if he went to church in Norfolk.

Well they’ve “stepped away” so I guess they can do what they want in theory?

Did Harry and Meghan attend Easter services?

Interesting question. I remember reading Meghan is quite religious and used to initiate prayer circles on the sets of Suits. It would be interesting to know whether she and Harry still attend church in the US. All it takes is for one nasty accident and Harry is the heir to the throne (isn’t that what Meghan reportedly said?)

That was in Finding Freedom, PrettyFlyforaMaiTai. Omid Scobie wrote:

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 21/04/2025 15:00

She was clearly ill and struggling in the last few years of her life, especially without Philip.

It’s not mandatory for the Prince of Wales to attend the public royal Easter service. He went to church and worshipped in private with his family.

Thank you. Maybe religious is the wrong word then. Spiritual, perhaps? Although didn’t she convert to the Church of England?

Wow, how utterly tiresome of her. Anyone doing that at my workplace would have been given short shrift.

Cost of repairing pot holes is £17bn

And the sovereign grant is £134m. It would help or should we not bother because its just too much. Lets just think oh no it's in the billoons lets not try find money from where we can
Like I said they both don't seem to want to do it so let's have them give it up live off their Duchy money and take the taxpayers money back to pay towards things that will actually make a difference. I'm sure people in Birmingham would prefer the council got some of that money and the bin strikes ended.

Spectre8 · 21/04/2025 15:13

Calliopespa · 21/04/2025 13:40

Yes, I can understand that stance.
I guess what I really meant is for the RF to maximise the positive impact they have and can have - and I think they can - the optics are important. I actually have the feeling Kate really grasps that, though that’s just a feeling.

Yes but unfortunately they aren't doing enough for people I their forties what is their dedication to public service been? Its woefully lacking and with their statements always saying how they just one of us...erm no you really aren't.

Anyone in the workplace doing it would be given their own space and time to do it, as is in most companies there is a prayer room ..well ones I've worked in have. So not sure what company you work for but what a shame they aren't inclusive. And people aren't made to participate.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 15:19

Ah, the double-edged sword that is always applied to royals.

Not really, I simply said to posters who said they may have gone to another service earlier today that if they had we would find out about it. I was correct, PR matters....

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 15:20

Or are we pretending it doesn't ?
