The royal family

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?

I am really perplexed about why SF attends all Royal events since the death of the Queen when Andrew
is present. She behaves like his wife but she isn’t his wife. What on earth is going on? I cannot think of another situation like this where an ex wife lives with her ex husband and attends all public events with him as though they are still married. It’s bizarre.

They would likely be less criticism if they hadn't had so many recent private flights. I find it odd William has made the environment one of his things tbh.

^This. They use them all the time. It's just that it's covered up as much as possible. There is someone who shows footage of them jumping in and out of helicopters regularly. I think it is in Windsor or Kensington Palace, can't remember.

And yes, they could have stayed in their Windsor home to attend if they wanted to, no helicopter then!

I think neither of them should have been there.

The church is a place of penitence and forgiveness. He is more than entitled to worship alongside his family. But maybe they could have been more discreet.

Thanks PrettyFlyforaMaiTai. I love a bit of religious history, so will look at those podcasts.

Also, on that topic, to the PP who mentioned upthread that Anglican churches still pray for the Catholic Church in services, I presume that was a reference to the phrase in the Nicene Creed that the person reciting the creed believes in “one holy catholic and apostolic church”?

If so, that’s not a reference to the Catholic church as opposed to the Prostestant church. It’s a small “c” catholic, meaning universal. The Nicene Creed was written in AD 325 and refined in 381 to include these concepts. Long before any of the modern church schisms or Henry VIII!

Btw I’m astonished the Wales didn’t turn up - I like them but unsure what they do most of the time.
The biggest Christian date in the year, PoW will be defender of the faith sometime in future (probably sooner than we think) and doesn’t turn up with the family.
Not surprised that there’s a lot of comment on this absence.

There's been a huge shift in Will since the cancer diagnosis. Catherine has stepped back since her recovery. He's whittled back his schedule. I wonder if he's thinking he'll be king sooner than expected..

Exactly. Adjective not noun.

Victoria something, who said that she had four days left to live the other week.

I don't know whether the allegations against Andrew are true or not. But just because an alleged victim might have subsequently shown themselves to be less than exemplary, it doesn't automatically follow that their original allegations were lies.

Why would you pay millions to somebody who had made up lies against you? And really, if you are a member of about the most high profile family in the world, why would you choose a convicted sex trafficker as your best mate - staying at their house where the exploitation is happening under your nose - and not expect that to be a problem?

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 11:01

He's whittled back his schedule

did he ever have a big schedule? The downside of Harry leaving & a slimmed down approach is less to share the load with.

sofasoda · 21/04/2025 11:02

money?

CodandChipz · 21/04/2025 11:05

She wasn’t underage in this country though? Not that I’m saying any of it is okay but you can’t say she was underage because it’s different in America.

I have been under the impression that Anne and her husband don’t get along and haven’t for a long time. I imagine they live separate lives. But no one cares because they are legally married I suppose.

i imagine the king pointed out he never went so not important for W to go. Even if W did go elsewhere would he be photographed if he had the children with him?

But it’s not a state event. It’s a family going to church on Easter Sunday which presumably they could do wherever they were.

myrtleWilson · 21/04/2025 11:10

Futurehappiness · 21/04/2025 10:26

'This was a private family event, rather than a state one'

Then it won't be added to the Court Circular.

If it is it will signal a change as previous Easter Sunday church visits have not been recorded.

Back on topic of this thread : Sarah Ferguson

Prince and Princess of Wales went to Easter Church Service at Sandringham yesterday.

sjpsolicitorsllp Happy Easter everyone! We were lucky enough to be passing Sandringham church on the way to the Easter egg hunt just as the Prince and Princess of Wales were going in for Easter Sunday service

The Easter Sunday service has always had much looser attendance than Christmas with family often spending is at their own country estates.

Take 2022 for example

NO Queen
NO Charles
NO Camilla
NO Princess Anne

This is a total non-issue

Why is Sarah Ferguson at the Easter service?
RoseMarigoldViolet · 21/04/2025 11:50

I think that Sarah and Andrew are in a relationship and the family like Sarah so she is invited to family events. An unconventional arrangement but just what happens in families. I think that Charles has made a decision to include her whereas the Queen didn’t because she was more traditional.

Not a good precedent to quote today

?

The Pope passed away this morning.

I think it’s a reference to that.

Calliopespa · 21/04/2025 12:23

We don’t know for sure he didn’t go to Sunday Easter service though! As indeed we don’t know for sure about William!

Calliopespa · 21/04/2025 08:40

If you have a role, it’s the people who do care about that role you need to factor in, not the ones that don’t.

A. It’s not his role and b. Do the people who care really want a head of their church who has no personal faith. That’s not caring, that’s just blind adherence to tradition.

Amazing that he spoke to his people just yesterday

I don’t think anyone knows William’s beliefs do they?

DrPrunesqualer · 21/04/2025 12:40

@snowmichael
for clarity I posted my comment at 1:47am
so before the news that the Pope had passed away

And actually until he wants to state them it’s inappropriate to speculate.

The RF play an important role in the C of E. Many people value that.

I don't know why you were astonished. It was known beforehand. They went locally.

I don’t know. But on the balance of probability, he probably doesn’t? But that doesn’t seem to matter to people anyway, he must carry out the role designated to him, regardless of whether that makes them all and both a bunch of hypocrites.
