I worked in Lesotho briefly a few years before Harry set up Sentabale.

Other charities with expertise working in the area - there weren't any.

We had a WHO programme for TB and that was it. The HIV situation was completely out of control, stigma was so high you couldn't even mention the diagnosis to patients and there was no access to treatment anyway. It was just totally grim.

Sentabale may well need a change for current priorities but at the time it was absolutely unique.

On how many continents have they now been accused of bullying? Any continents left to go?

I don't think anyone in Antarctica has fallen out with them yet. But give it time.

If the charity commission report doesn't go the way H would like then wonder if he'll do the same as Tom Moore's daughter and release a statement calling them liars and awful bullies. Maybe Hannah will lend him her script.

And maybe Rob Rinder can shoot Harry down with his lies and fluffing of half truths too 😁

Perhaps he can join his wife with her new online second hand clothes business. I am pretty sure he could cope with sticking stamps on parcels……….

Provided the stamps don't have his Dad's head on them (or his brother's).

A 20-second google shows there was an extant charity targeting AIDS in Lesotho set up in 2004, 2 years before PH's effort. Not counting targeted programmes by the WHO, UNAIDS, Oxfam etc

AtIusvue · 26/03/2025 10:34

I seen that, it’s like a horror film

@Atlusvue
Didnt he and Meghan deliver food parcels in LA? A few years ago? She’s not remotely interested in anything African. He took her there to propose but the later trip was disastrous.

Howmanyflags · 26/03/2025 10:40

An ideal guest for Meghan to interview in her next podcast series- a well educated strong women of colour standing up for what's right!

Is that the Elizabeth Glaser foundation?

I just googled them myself and it does look as if they're doing some excellent work and reaching huge numbers of people, though TBF Sentabele appears to occupy a different niche with camps, working the land and so on

TizerorFizz · 26/03/2025 10:44

A quick Google search finds 150 charities with links to Lesotho. The Harry one isn’t unique. Never was.

Basically Harry hadn’t visited in 6 years, wasn’t raising much for the charity anymore and seemed to have lost interest. Also past dodgy dealings

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14537723/Sentebale-Harry-prince-humiliating-REBECCA-ENGLISH.html

‘Nor (I, would argue, significantly in the circumstances) had he ever taken his wife, Meghan, to visit. Instead they have focused their efforts since quitting royal duties on high-profile joint tours to Colombia and Nigeria, as well as their lives as professional victims of the Royal Family.

But it has long been clear that something wasn’t quite right. And like so many of Harry’s long-standing projects, it does seem that his work in this field has stagnated since leaving the Royal Family, where he would have had a whole team of experienced palace private secretaries and press officers to corral his philanthropic efforts.

It is also worth noting that this is not the first scandal that has engulfed the charity, however well-meaning Harry’s intentions.
In 2008 (just two years after Sentebale was founded) it emerged that just £84,000 of the £1.15million raised (through events including a concert in memory of his late mother and a high-profile television documentary on his travels there) had actually been spent on helping the Aids orphans that Harry had set out to save.
Meanwhile some £250,000 had been lavished on staffing costs, plus tens of thousands more on new offices and a fleet of branded 4 x 4 vehicles. The charity’s first director had been earning an eye-watering £100,000 a year (a huge sum bearing in mind this was a fledgling charity two decades ago) and enjoyed a perks package that included a four-bedroom villa with staff and even an education allowance for his three children to attend private schools out-of-country.‘

Lavish sums spent on staffing in a charity Harold's involved with?

Now where have we heard that before?

Why was my post deleted? I was simply quoting Trump! It was a current affairs reference.

Lesotho shocked by Donald Trump's remarks that 'nobody has heard of the country' - BBC News

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 26/03/2025 10:48

No, that is a third one. Help Lesotho: This is a non-governmental organization founded in 2004 by Dr. Peg Herbert. Their main goal is to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Lesotho. There's also https://ttl-lesotho.org/who-we-are/touching-tiny-lives-foundation/ founded in 2004.

I definitely get that there's a place for smaller, nimbler organisations on the ground to counter big organisation bloat. But one run from London set up alongside at least two highly targeted operations run by people with extensive local knowledge and experience does not seem efficient. Supporting one of the several extant ones would have made much more sense from a charity perspective.

TizerorFizz · 26/03/2025 10:52

I agree that assistance from professional staff in the RF could have helped. In the USA, with Meghan, he’s never going to retain interest to the level he needed to. It was all based on him being active in the RF. Now he’s not it’s pointless and clearly doesn’t make great decisions.

sweetgingercat · 26/03/2025 10:58

OP: If you are quoting the Daily Mail, then you're looking for information in the wrong place. The Daily Mail couldn't care about what's going on Lesotho, they couldn't care about the lives of people with HIV, black women, or women in general.

Their sole objective is to boot Harry because he challenged the media over illegally accessing his phone messages.

You should be reserving judgement till the report comes out (and reading the report, not the Daily Mail reporting of the report).

PippistrelleBat · 26/03/2025 10:59

Harry doesn’t have the capacity to run these organisations. He doesn’t have the experience or the interest in the work and learning required to develop ability to even if he could. For all the justified criticism of Meghan, she is more savvy and attempting to use her business knowledge to build a career. What is Harry doing now?

Whether the DM cares isn’t the point. It’s about reporting the facts. They reported both Harrys and the Chair woman’s statements, in full.

@sweetgingercat its in all the press so its not a DM hatchet job. No one would have known about the issues had it not been leaked/picked up by the Times I believe
