".....our most able prince of hearts"

Really???

AnnaMagnani · 27/03/2025 20:24

In fairness @TenInchNails in the UK everyone calls me Nurse, even when I've introduced myself as Dr so we aren't exactly better.

Nursing is a great profession, not wishing to disrespect nurses, but I am not one and the experience of patients and relatives (including those young enough to know better) assuming woman=nurse is universal for female doctors.

TenInchNails · 27/03/2025 20:43

@AnnaMagnani that is so frustrating!

Im conscious that I'm maybe underplaying some of the gender stuff in Lesotho as I had an easy time of it growing up. I know as a doctor working there you'll have seen some awful examples of GBV.

Yes I think this is an excellent insight. Dr C perhaps wants to ensure long term sustainability for Sentebale by widening it beyond what sounds like a cosy fundraising gig which enables Harry to do plenty of what he likes.

It's a similar situation with Invictus - the rumours are that they're very keen to widen their activities and PR so that they're not just associated with Harry.

I think we're now seeing some of the longer term consequences of the messy and recriminatory exit from the RF which H&M chose. If Harry had remained part of the RF, sustainability would not have been an issue for either of these charities as his children and other RF members could also have gotten involved, in time. But now, he's not a full Royal, he's a celebrity husband in the US, without the pull or networks he could once bring to bear. So he's less valuable, and his favourite charities have to look beyond him.

It's interesting that the Palace, in setting up Sentebale and enhancing Invictus, were very clever to find Harry activities that were socially meaningful but also allowed him to do things he loves to do - polo, hosting gigs etc etc. Two birds one stone - get Harry doing something socially positive and keep him out of trouble. And the Palace probably also kept a close eye on the charities to ensure that Harry, through misspending or poor behaviour, never got the charities or the RF into hot water.

Possibly Harry didn't fully realise how indispensable this behind-the-scenes Palace work to the healthy functioning of his role as Patron of Invictus and Sentebale, and the health of the charities themselves.

I absolutely agree!

H really has not thought out the generational repercussions from his acrimonious exit from the RF. As part of the estrangement W&C will avoid contact with people close to H&M, given H&M’s fondness for feeding gossip (“my truth”) to the media. As a byproduct, A&L will be estranged as W&C will be wary that even innocuous play among cousins could be histrionically misrepresented to the media. Almost all of H’s UK-based friends would share similar concerns since H felt free to disparage his old mates in his book.

For example, H was accidentally bowled over in a video of the cousins and friends playing at Highgrove in their childhood. After some TLC from “Pa”, H was right as rain. Imagine the hysterics if one of the cousins or friends accidentally bowled over A!

When i was in the Middle East I got called Mrs Husbandsfirstname. Sigh

Im surprised by that. In fact it’s not something I’ve come across in almost 5 decades here. The norm would be, for eg, ‘Um Ahmed’ mother of Ahmed, but nowadays it can also be Um Fatima, mother of Fatima. If however it wasn’t known if you had children you would be called by your own name - remember women here do not take their husbands name on marriage. You would be, for eg, Miss or Mrs Anne.

TenInchNails · 27/03/2025 21:07

@Weepixie i was in the Gulf so this wasn't specifically the locals, of whom I met very few in my year there.

TenInchNails · 27/03/2025 20:11

It's less bad in more urban areas, especially now. In Mafeteng you'd probably have been called Dr Anna, Dr Firstname was the convention for our friends working at Mafeteng hospital, for both sexes.

Also among more educated, middle class people attitudes are much more modern, which is I'm sure a fairly global phenomenon.

When i was in the Middle East I got called Mrs Husbandsfirstname. Sigh.

I will say the sexism comments weren't virulent, more just mimping about too much feminism these days kind of thing.

Edited

Same convention as Princess Henry

TenInchNails · 27/03/2025 21:12

Actually didn't they do that in the UK?! Christians cards to Mr and Mrs John Smith?

I think Harry was babbling on at recent IG that its a legacy he wants to hand on to Archie.....maybe IG were having similar sustainability discussions - not sure if PH realises that its not his call?

Weepixie · 27/03/2025 21:24

@TenInchNails I’m also in the Gulf.

Not coming across many Gulf nationals when you were here certainly explains being called Mrshusbandsfirstname.

IM currently getting used to going from being called sister as a sign of respect to Bibi (grandma). I’ve felt as if I’ve aged a bit recently but I didn’t think it was that noticeable 😝.

It's usually non ME immigrant men usually Indians who call you Mrs Nigel or Mrs Harry or whatever.

I've made that over complicated by trying not to offend someone. 😬

Lunde · 27/03/2025 21:33

I think that Senetable has been stagnating for at least 5 years and been struggling to develop new funding streams. The big events have stagnated and even dropped in the level of income they provide. Corporate funding has been decimated as has "gifts in kind" ie blagging freebies to pay for the events. They seem dependent on institutional funding but unclear where this comes from. In 2023 they made an operational loss of £374,000.

I think Harry underestimated the extent that his charities depended on his RF status where his friends and family could be guaranteed to donate and turn out at the events that in turn increased Senetable's profile. Schlepping the polo event to Singapore in 2023 does not appear to have increased donations.

I wonder if there is also an issue with Harry wearing 2 hats at some of these events. The Florida Senetable polo event was filmed for Netflix as part of Harry's polo documentary. Harry presumably got well paid by NF - but did any of this money go to Senetable?

Yes. But it never crossed my mind someone could live in the Middle East and meet very few people who are from there so I assumed it was in general.

I know 🙈

And to add insult to injury it was a very young policeman who said it when I was going through immigration. I was walking away when he said it and it stopped me in my tracks 😂

It was Doha, I was on an expat compound and none of DH colleagues or staff were Qatari. It wasn't through choice or anything, I'd have loved to, but didn't really get an in, in the brief time we were there.
