This is what I understood the origin of 'beyond the Pale' to be, my dad often used that phrase to say something was out of order/not right/ a bit extreme or taking advantage of something.

In the late Middle Ages, the English controlled a relatively small area around Dublin in Ireland, known as "the Pale". This area was considered the area of English rule and law, and anything outside of it was considered beyond the pale, meaning beyond the reach of English authority and law

That's my understanding too, with the addition that by Elizabethan times, it had acquired the less precise meaning of the Irish being unruly and wild.

Blimey the chair woman’s comments are very damning about Harry aren’t they!

I think you are making assumptions here. Harry is not named. 😉

BigWillyLittleTodger · 26/03/2025 17:48

I wonder if Dr Chandauka’s statement will open the floodgates and we will hear more about what’s really going on at Invictus?

I made the point earlier on that she could be speaking about any one of a handful of people and if Harry is now being falsely accused of racism he’s now getting a taste of his own medicine.

Edited

I think the reference to 'playing the victim card' and having 'disdain for the press' while still using them to his advantage made it rather obvious who she was speaking about.

Absolutely. A perfect description.

Yes, there is that.

CesarSoubreyon · 26/03/2025 17:57

Bet Harry's missing those 'Men in grey suits' now! What an absolute mess he makes of everything.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 26/03/2025 18:00

There are people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people, and then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain to harm people who have the courage to challenge their conduct.

Dr Chandauka is a highly accomplished and intelligent woman, she knows exactly how this statement would be interpreted worldwide without having to name Harry, well done her, Harry must be absolutely reeling, no one has ever stood up to him so publicly (and probably privately) ever before, as they say Karma’s a bitch.

I'd be interested in knowing who was harmed by the press? Dr Chandauka or someone else?

CrazyOldMe · 26/03/2025 18:14

And, Harry can't complain about her calling him out publicly, given that's what he's spent the past decade doing to his own friends and family

Yes, but he doesn't see things that way. He's always right, always the victim.
Everyone else is wrong.

IdaGlossop · 26/03/2025 16:06

To what extent would the palace now act, though, to negotiate redactions to preserve Harry's reputation?

Who can say, IdaGlossop?

Mindful of Omid Scobie's very noticeable silence after naming Charles and Catherine as the royal racists my own fiver would be on the point where something harmed their own reputations, but that's something else we'll have to see in time

Edited to add that Harry can complain about whatever he chooses, @CrazyOldMe - and does, all the time
Unfortunately though his many curated memories lies have resulted in him having very little credibility left, so that's just something else he'll have to cope with - or not, as the case may be

Oh I think you’ll find he will!
empathy And equivalents are not his strong points!

I was just reading an article about the goings on and someone had this to say in the comments

‘They might need to show their children’s faces to bury this one in the news’

Well hopefully not !
but sad to say I’d not put anything beneath either of them now.

@GiveMeSpanakopita - I’ve been wondering where you were. Your presence has been sorely missed.

A good outcome from this would be the legacy media getting serious about reporting on the wealth of the Royals, its sources, and their exemption from tax paying, will publishing and rules the rest of us have to follow. That would be journalism in the public interest rather than endless fawning about frocks, fascinators and flag-waving.

No. It’s an appreciation society for all things Spanakopita and a highly intelligent woman with much life experience in the world of matriarchs and Welsh cakes.

I can see a perfect link-up between Harry and Captain Tom’s daughter… Maybe a “Club Nook” publication on charity begins at home…

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/03/2025 18:33

I couldn't agree more, IdaGlossop, but very much doubt it'll happen ... not with the practice the family have had in shutting down whatever fails to suit

With the rather serious nature of this thread , addressing issues about possible racism and misappropriation of funds destined to vulnerable children… you thought this was an appropriate thread to say what?
a comment you thought was snappy and clever?
because it doesn’t look that way to anyone who actually cares.
