A good outcome from this would be the legacy media getting serious about reporting on the wealth of the Royals, its sources, and their exemption from tax paying, will publishing and rules the rest of us have to follow. That would be journalism in the public interest rather than endless fawning about frocks, fascinators and flag-waving.

You should read and listen to better news outlets. I read about these things all the time.
Try R4, Channel 4 news, the Guardian and the Independent.

I’m going to file the explanation of beyond the pale in the same file I keep the explanation of why me saying MSG gives me a headache is racist.

that was an excellent discussion though as it prompted me to buy some MSG and it is amazing stuff.
I use it onloads now and it really makes a difference
( and proves I'm not racist by using it!😄)

is this some sort of RF bashing club? a sport

well that's how I view and use the board.
Can't speak for others though

Mightymoog · 26/03/2025 18:57

What's happening with the whole africa parks thing? Is he still carrying on with that?

Weepixie · 26/03/2025 18:59

@Mightymoog

I was part of that discussion. And if saying MSG has given me headaches since childhood makes me a racist them so be it. Some things really are worth going to the wall for. 🙊😆

There are people in this world who behave as though they are above the law and mistreat people, and then play the victim card and use the very press they disdain to harm people who have the courage to challenge their conduct.

Dr Chandauka is a highly accomplished and intelligent woman, she knows exactly how this statement would be interpreted worldwide without having to name Harry, well done her, Harry must be absolutely reeling, no one has ever stood up to him so publicly (and probably privately) ever before, as they say Karma’s a bitch.

She is also a lawyer, so she knows exactly what she can get away with saying.

Short of saying that she's referring to Harry Mountbatten Windsor, she really couldn't have been more obvious.

JandamiHash · 26/03/2025 19:08

IdaGlossop · 26/03/2025 17:47

I think you are making assumptions here. Harry is not named. 😉

Definitely might not be Harry

I am absolutely certain it isn't Harry. I feel it in my bones. And my waters. I've never been so sure of anything in my life.

SoNotaRealHousewife · 26/03/2025 19:16

How very interesting, I’m sure there is more to come

It’s pretty much a neon sign on Broadway isn’t it!

Two thirds of the charity income is from donations and fundraising events likely connected to Prince Harry. The rest is a grant which may depend on Sentebale’s UK registered charity status. A significant portion of the income goes towards its projects in Africa. The charity made a surplus in 2022 the year Harry gave his donation. It made a small loss in 2023, I suspect a much bigger loss in 2024 - accounts due in April.

Onestopshop11 · 26/03/2025 20:02

I suspect that the report to the Charity Commission and loss of Trustees and Patrons will lead to its financial collapse unless new funding streams have been secured from new individuals and funding bodies but hopefully alternative income has been secured and the work can carry on.

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 26/03/2025 20:05

I mean, Lesotho would probably be in a better place in the first place without the gross income inequality of multimillionaires who can afford to drop over a million quid in donations.

I don’t disagree with you at all, but my point is that I hope the chair has created a plan for replacing the funding linked to the current trustees and patrons.

BemusedAmerican · 26/03/2025 20:52

In the US, we can deduct our charitable contributions on our income tax filings. Along with our mortgage interest. Harry may have found the 2021 donation to be financially expedient. I file using itemized deductions because it saves me from paying the government.

One of the new trustees has an extensive background in non-profits and finance. I'm looking forward to the findings of your charity commission.

Ermmm surely you've heard all the things Prince Phillip has said, many of them not great but given this was in public I can't imagine the shite he would come out with being closed doors.
A couple of examples" If you stay here much longer you will all be slitty-eyed," said to British exchange students living in Xian."You managed not to get eaten then?" the Prince asked a British student who had been trekking in Papua New Guinea, in 199.
. "Do you still throw spears at each other?" he asked a group of Indigenous Australians in 2002, while on a visit to Australia with the Queen.

Prince Andrew used the actual N word at an event. Alongside a few other lovely moments.

Why people defend these embarrassments is beyond me.

Why do people judge a man born over 100 years ago into an empire by the standards of 2025?

I think he was a literal man who said what he saw, but I don't believe he was racist.

I've never of Andrew using the word, but if he did, he should have done better.

Beyond the pale - there it is again. I've learnt on here that that phrase is very insulting and racist to certain people. I believe there is a whole thread on site stuff about it. It's a minefield isn't it?

What's wrong with "beyond the Pale"? It's a phrase derived from an area around Dublin?

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 26/03/2025 21:13

JessicaBlabbit · 26/03/2025 16:26

No that's not true.

What we also know is that Dr Chandauka applied to the High Court to apply for an injunction to stop them firing her.

This was granted by the High Court which indicates she has supplied sufficient evidence at this poinb that she would likely win her case.

What's "not true" in what I said?!

Especially as you say "also know" implying that it was additional information to that in my post?!

The are around Dublin was a pale but not the only one.

Yes its those two things - an expression of something disgusting ie not English and therefore the uncivilized, disgusting, indigenous, colonised Irish population. Thats why its offensive.

Edited

Why on earth would you be offended by a historic expression from the middle ages?!

EsmaCannonball · 26/03/2025 21:19

I'd like to know how much money Archewell has raised and where it has gone. I'd also like to know how much Invictus money goes on things like private jets, luxury hotels and designer clothes. As for Sentebale, are polo matches the most efficient and effective way to raise money for charity or are they a way to offset the costs of playing polo?

PippistrelleBat · 26/03/2025 21:25

Does it need to be the most efficient way if it still raises money?

Well I'm from Ireland and that was always my understanding of the phrase,
