A genuinely nice and friendly thread about Meghan

Hi everyone! As suggested on another thread, I’m starting this to provide some balance to the MM / MS threads which have been perceived as bullying and not joyful.

So please feel free to join in and share something pleasant and joyful about your day or any comments about MM / MS as an antidote if the other threads have caused you upset. Please be nice!

I’ll begin by saying that writing notes by hand is a lovely thing to do, and conveys sincerity beyond any effusive email or text message. And nice handwriting is a bonus! Hand cramp is a problem of the digital age.

Also, I’ve watched two episodes of the series now, and I love the garden plants in California. Waiting for the spring to bloom here!

Yes - but IIRC the Diana hatred really started when she started dating Al Fayed's son - i.e. a non-white man. The horror! And she started pretty much living outside the UK after that. (At least, that's my recollection.)

It didn’t start with that. People were pleased she had found someone was wasnt married for starters and she seemed happy. They were also pleased when she was with cardiologist chap whom she really seemed to love and he seemed to love her. . Diana had press attention and intrusion from when she first started seeing Charles. The press hounded her right from the start.

jeffgoldblum · 24/03/2025 12:37

And as @decoratedgranolabananahas just pointed out there are two more posts about doing exactly what I mentioned earlier!
hopefully it will not derail the thread further.

I said some , because I’m aware that only a handful of posters did this , I certainly didn’t include you .

OK. I'll start again then. Let's turn the page and make this more like the OP was hoping for.

Here is a very fair article about the series by BBC. No, it's not fawning all over her, it points out the good and bad if you like.

An interesting read. Well balanced.

I was thinking about Diana as well. I don't read the gutter press and of course we didn't have social media then, but I don't remember this level of vitriol about her.

Diana obviously has her critics and I've heard some nasty misogynist remarks but she wasn't hounded out of the country and didn't have baying mobs salivating for her downfall.

Perhaps it's because Diana was part of the establishment: white, aristocrat, one of 'us'. And Meghan is a foreigner and black, so easily dehumanised.

I’m sorry @Extiainoiapeial, but until positive posters stop posting like this you are unlikely to be able to continue your nice discussion of Meghans show!
I’m ignoring it now because I think it’s being done on purpose.
however other posters will respond as they see fit .
I am genuinely happy you enjoyed the program.

But you don't have to be up in arms at every post? You don't agree with that poster, that is fine. We all have different viewpoints. There's a million things I read on Mumsnet that I don't agree with, I just don't respond or I'd be here 24/7 !

It's an attempt at distraction from the bullying here this morning by a poster who now is conspicuously absent.

FixThisKindOfFeeling · 24/03/2025 12:56

I’ve read the whole thread now and I must say, it is great to get some balance as the RF board is usually very one sided with most posters disliking Meghan. I’ve read threads about Meghan and Harry on other boards of mumsnet which show that the dislike does not carry through to mumsnet as a whole, which is quite revealing. I think that some of the posters on the RF board are so used to their echo chamber that they find it difficult when they’re confronted with other views.

Its not something I discuss often in real life, but when I have, most people don’t have any strong feelings either way on Meghan and Harry and I think we must remember that the RF board could give the impression that everyone is against Meghan and Harry, when it’s not the case at all. Out of my friends and family, some think Meghan and Harry were right to talk about what they’ve been through, some think they would have been best to keep things private, but they all agree that the obsessive hating of her from some corners is OTT, and is, or at least verges on bullying.

I think the whole situation must have been very upsetting for Meghan, Harry and the rest of the Royals and I hope that even if relationships can never be recovered, that each are able to move on and be happy. Families are complicated and tricky. Meghan and Harry seem to be doing very well and always look very in love and hopefully Kate will continue to recover from her illness and her and William will go on to do good things in future. We don’t always have to have a goodie and a baddie, people are complex.

I don't know who they is. All I know is this thread has gone off course.

And there's probably no hope for it.

^ This. If M or H threads are posted in AIBU or Chat, it is a completely different vibe. Sometimes 50/50 for/against, sometimes much more positive than that. If MumsnetHQ got rid of the royal board there would be far better and fairer discussion to be had.

Whats the title of this thread? What has the Op wrote as her thread?

So no it's not a distraction it's just respecting that this is a thread started by someone who wants there to be ONE thread for friendly comments about Meghan. That's it, simple as.

If you want to discuss racism go start your own thread about it.

Mumnet say we should be derailing thread. Or do you also think forum rules don't apply to you or anyone attempting to derail a thread.

I was delighted for Harry that he met someone he was so smitten with. They do seem to have a very nice life together and Meghan looks very well, which is lovely to see.

I'm glad they've managed to carve a life for themselves. It would be great if there was a reconciliation and everyone could move on.

Meghan wasn’t hounded out of the country . She and Harry flounced off because the late Queen wouldn’t agree to their grandiose plan to monetise their titles .,
They didn’t want to leave . They issued a statement saying how they planned to operate and collaborate (!) with the Queen .

Yes, that would be good but whilst the media is fuelling such nasty and unpleasant comments about Meghan incessantly (all for the crime of making a lifestyle series) that won't happen.
I've put on another thread how a Catholic priest has waded in with truly abhorrent, spiteful and unpleasant comments about her series.

This sort of thing makes me want to stick up for her even more.

That is simply not true . Diana was heavily criticised for her relationship with married Will Carling . His then wife Julia was very vocal at the time ! Similarly the late Oliver Hoare was another married man she had an affair with and in fact the police were involved because of the number of silent phone calls being made to his wife which were traced back to KP.

You have misunderstood. I tagged you because earlier you were quite vocal about people derailing the thread with racism chat so I tagged you with a 😂 as you had only talked about one person when there were many . I was highlighting that here it was again. I was NOT one of them so I have no idea why you are telling me to start a thread about racism.

Munnygirl · 24/03/2025 11:18

i understand your posts perfectly well. You blame his family for his behaviour

The poster didn’t blame his family. It is possible to blame Harry and acknowledge that experience from childhood can impact us. The poster explicitly said that and I would have been frustrated at your refusal to understand too. They have done the right thing in saying they will no longer be replying to you rather than arguing further.

300 calls !

We obviously remember things differently and the evidence says otherwise. I posted earlier about racism from police, racism in the press and threats made against her. The police said she had a right to feel unsafe. There have been prosecutions regarding harassment.

After her programme she received death threats.

For some, notably our press and some lovely members of the public, she can't do anything right. Every single thing she does or says is gone over with a fine tooth comb in order to criticise her.

I tend to ignore people I don't like but some have made it their personality to take her down. If you watch the videos spoken about earlier, she's described as a turd that just won't flush - which just about sums these people up. There's seemingly a lot of projection going on.

I'm sure the royals can see beyond the press, after all they're used to them. It will obviously take work from both sides but it would be lovely if there was a reconciliation.

decoratedgranolabanana · 24/03/2025 13:19

There will never be a reconciliation . I would bet my last banana on that.

DramaDog · 24/03/2025 13:21

I don’t believe I would have felt safe to stay in the UK and there is no way I would have stayed in her position. I think they did the right thing in leaving and building a life in America. I think I would choose their life over a life as a working Royal in the UK.
