A genuinely nice and friendly thread about Meghan

MonteShitshow · 21/03/2025 15:09

Hi everyone! As suggested on another thread, I’m starting this to provide some balance to the MM / MS threads which have been perceived as bullying and not joyful.

So please feel free to join in and share something pleasant and joyful about your day or any comments about MM / MS as an antidote if the other threads have caused you upset. Please be nice!

I’ll begin by saying that writing notes by hand is a lovely thing to do, and conveys sincerity beyond any effusive email or text message. And nice handwriting is a bonus! Hand cramp is a problem of the digital age.

Also, I’ve watched two episodes of the series now, and I love the garden plants in California. Waiting for the spring to bloom here!

@NeverHadHaveHas your posts have become so convoluted because of quoting - can you clarify what poster you are denigrating ?

Samcro · 24/03/2025 11:40

jeffgoldblum · 24/03/2025 11:25

The op was also perfectly clear that this thread was not set up to be a thread fawning over Meghan , the op was perfectly clear that it was set up for friendly comments about Meghan AND between posters.
so all these aggressive comments to posters who don’t agree are definitely not in the spirit of the thread.

i know. it was a pretend thread. but surely one thread not full of posts full of well.......lets go with same old same old shall we.

Maitri108 · 24/03/2025 11:41

NeverHadHaveHas · 24/03/2025 11:19

They have made personal attacks against a woman they don’t know on other threads, but they don’t seem to like that being pointed out.

You'll be accused of bullying.

MonteShitshow · 21/03/2025 15:12

I forgot to add that this thread especially welcomes all the posters who may feel like they’re being outnumbered in the other MM / MS threads. Be free to bloom here, and share the joy!

please refrain from overly personal criticisms of posters that do not necessarily share your views. Thank you :)

from the start of this thread...

BasiliskStare · 24/03/2025 11:44

@WatchedEverything I've tried to be even handed on this thread . Also 💐 and possibly Ginto @MonteShitshow . I think she was genuinely trying to do a Good Thing but as they say no good turn goes etc etc

Anyway - that to one side Watched - for you - The Hummingbird Whisperer.

yeah that ship has sailed.

I’m actually genuinely sorry for you and some of the others , you probably won’t believe that but it is in fact true , I had already pointed out why separate threads don’t work and here is the proof.
the blame lies on both shoulders, had more positive posters simply stuck with discussion of Meghan and her show maybe it would have limped by .
but obviously they used this to pontificate about talking points that were obviously going to be a red rag to more critical posters.

FixThisKindOfFeeling · 24/03/2025 11:47

The positives I see are:

Harry seems smitten still. He appreciates goodness in a person and sees it in her.
She is not a criminal.
She does charitable work.
Her friends and the family members who’ve stood by her like her and they seem nice.
When I’ve heard her talk about herself, she seems to genuinely want to make people around her feel good.
She recognised that being a working royal did not suit her and made a sensible decision to go home to what she knew.
From what I saw, she got on well with the Queen and the Queen had compassion for her.

Thats a lovely positive list. 😊 I think she and Harry try to do good things in the world and she seems like a strong woman. She is very resilient to have kept going despite dealing with so much racism and having the press against her. They seem to have a lovely life in the US.

I know @Samcro! I genuinely hoped some posters would get a thread to enjoy!
the op genuinely hoped that certain posters would stop attacking on critical threads and migrate here and enjoy some positive vibes.
but it doesn’t work they are still popping back and forth, so obviously the reverse happens with critical posters too!
I am not innocent but I had to answer certain posts , I did try to keep my comments to only Harry ( as I blame him for most of the behaviour)
it’s hard to step away when you are being tagged.

CatsChin · 24/03/2025 11:50

These threads are so weird. I don't understand the obsession people in the UK have for her: the nearest thing that I can recall was the obsessive view of Diana in her vilified years or Myra Hindley. To me it obviously comes from the (racist) right-wing press and it's depressing how people fall for it.

I think MM always comes across well (albeit terrified), and I love Harry, he's always seemed like one of the more human royals. He's definitely the most attractive, even though I can remember when he was born. 😬

Does anybody want to discuss Apple Butter here? I heard Meghan mention that her grandmother used to make apple butter… anything with butter in it gets my attention. I make herby butter, but have not heard of apple butter. Did some reading up online and realize it’s a very reduced version of applesauce! No butter involved. But usually needs a slow cooker or dedicated stirring at stove to prevent it burning.

However (if anyone is interested) I saw a comment in one of the recipe pages saying that baking it in the oven at low-moderate heat for 45 mins could replace 10 hours of slow cooker time. I might try that, as I don’t have a slow cooker.

As I’m not very familiar with how threads are meant to be run by the OP, I’m gg to address a few points that I feel are directly made towards me.

Thank you to the posters who are trying to steer the conversation back in the light-hearted cordial direction.

@Extiainoiapeial 😬 thank you for the soundtrack and fashion links!

@RevolutionaryMode @DramaDog I didn’t know there were positive Meghan threads because this part of the forum is not my usual stomping ground. I’m usually reading about cooking and home organisation on MN, but the As Ever threads caught my eye while they were trending. I am a fan of lifestyle series so I read them before the series started. I don’t think I’ve seen any Meghan thread on this part of the forum with many positive things without arguments.

separate note to @RevolutionaryMode i hope you enjoy the last episode. I should rewatch ep 3 at some point, but my next one will be ep 4.

@Spectre8 well NOW I know better that these threads don’t get far. I really did think there are some good things in WLM, and in fact they have been mentioned on occasion in other threads. But I thought it would be handy to have them in one place.

@Lifestooshort71 i started this innocently, perhaps too innocently (and under informed). I’m guessing this is why no one started a positive thread despite not having a place to discuss pleasant things about WLM.

(I also realise that the title of the thread was not specific enough, and I really should have made WLM tips and tricks much more prominent as opposed to a generalized topic like Meghan, which attracts a wide variety of discussion points)

@garlicandsapphires @Maitri108 @WatchedEverything @IAmATorturedPoet my username was coincidental. I’ve never set out to look for content criticizing Meghan on the internet as I thought she was a very good addition to the royal family. I watched the Oprah interview but nothing else. I made my mind up about certain things through the interview, and didn’t watch YouTube videos etc. I did a quick online search for HG Tudor and also noticed the monteshitshow word being used elsewhere… and I here I am a few years down the line thinking it was original because the username was available on MN.

Anyway, I did think that the failure to secure a name and launch products during the series was quite rubbish- in any business this would be considered a shitshow, which is why I chose the username. I won’t change it because it would be disingenuous. Apologies for this bit of negativity.

But I have watched the series and I think it is fairly enjoyable and I have picked up useful tips or reminders @PosiePetal

@MissFenellaPrism I also only judge base on what I have seen directly from H&M. For me, it’s only the Oprah interview I have to go on.

@Samcro re cheerleaders: I just wanted a term for fans of Meghan without using SS in case they thought it an offensive label. Would you accept Meghan supporters and Meghan critics as appropriate terms?

To all the other posters posting about non-WLM topics, I have read your posts and absorbed some of the information. Please avoid personal attacks - we are all strangers posting anonymously here. Nobody really knows much about anyone.

If anyone feels strongly that I should try and change the title to mention Positive lessons and thoughts from WLM, please let me know (and also let me know how to change it).

Im going to get back to my real life now, so have a nice afternoon everyone! Please keep it as positive and joyful and WLM-related as you can. 🐥 <— closest thing to hummingbird

You lot! It did take me a while to make some notes and then type my post, but seriously, it’s like herding butterflies.

Im sorry if my starting this thread was the equivalent of sending those Jurassic park dinosaurs on the ship to mainland. It’s probably going to be mayhem, but I’ll still come back to add in nice things I’ve learned from WLM, and to pick up any other tips I have missed along the way.

in between hummingbird whisperer videos and baking my applesauce.

@MonteShitshow it's admirable of you to try to summarise the positivities of this thread but it has shown that there are some people who will stoop to underhand tactics and try to bully posters from the thread by stalking and referring to their mental health. Whether posters get carried away in the heat of the moment I don't know and then they panic when they realise what they have done ? I would hope that admin at MN have taken a serious look at this thread and have marked some people's cards.

I’ve never had any kind of problem with her but am not invested in the royals or the drama at all. Didn’t watch any of the interviews, didn’t read Spare, don’t click on Royal gossip links.

But I watched the first episode of her new show becuase I kept hearing bad things about it and millienials as a whole, and curiosity got the better of me. It’s fine. To be honest, she comes across as likeable.

Totally agree. I didn't have high hopes for this NF series but I was pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, some of it was a bit twee for my liking, some of it boring, but on the whole I thought it was great for what it was. A fluffy lifestyle programme.

I was thinking about Diana as well. I don't read the gutter press and of course we didn't have social media then, but I don't remember this level of vitriol about her.

Diana obviously has her critics and I've heard some nasty misogynist remarks but she wasn't hounded out of the country and didn't have baying mobs salivating for her downfall.

Perhaps it's because Diana was part of the establishment: white, aristocrat, one of 'us'. And Meghan is a foreigner and black, so easily dehumanised.

Yes - but IIRC the Diana hatred really started when she started dating Al Fayed's son - i.e. a non-white man. The horror! And she started pretty much living outside the UK after that. (At least, that's my recollection.)

BasiliskStare · 24/03/2025 12:26

@MonteShitshow - don't you mean herding hummingbirds 😂

Anyway - for @WatchedEverything and others here's another one - David Attenborough . The filming quality on this is amazing. It might be part of a longer one - Jewelled messengers - which I will be watching also

I think Harry & Meghan are very lucky to have hummingbirds in their garden. I'd love that.

I remember Diana getting it from the press in the 80’s and 90’s.

I did!!!! On and on with lots of positivity, links about her clothes, nice talk about the series, what I liked, what didn't inspire me.
But no. Not allowed. Positivity on a Meghan thread = impossible.

Yes she was certainly criticised but I don't remember it to this extent. I remember the day of her funeral and the empty streets and how upset people were. She had her critics but she was loved.

IAmATorturedPoet · 24/03/2025 12:33

I’ll always jump in on any thread where I see racism being excused or indeed blamed on someone else. There is no excuse.

Racism is not a but, but, but <insert pointed finger here>.

It makes for very uncomfortable reading

I get that it is quite the predicament for a lot of people who really admire MM to try and reconcile her husbands comments but, in the same way as Prince Phillip is called out on it to this day (as evidenced on this thread) so will Prince Harry. If posters are having difficulty with this I don’t think the answer is to double down and single out individual posters, look at their posting history and make personal remarks, that just looks very much like bullying.
