Prue Leith on Meghan Marble

I just saw this article about Prue Leith's pronouncement on Markle's new programme, which she says she would never watch. She says that she isn't a Markle fan because of all the "touchy feeliness" and talk about what creams you put on your hands. She says life is too short to think about what people think of you. Prue Leith is around 80 years old (?) is alway impeccably and colourfully dressed, her hair just so, her skin is lovely, she is always talking about food that is or isn't "worth the calories" - all of which which suggests that she very much cares what people think of her and that she takes a lot of time with her own appearance even though she is much older than Meghan who I would argue - as I would for all young women - that they should enjoy and relish their youth and beauty and make the most of it while it lasts.

My question however is about why Leith found it so easy to make this comment in public. I can't imagine her judging another celebrity so publicly and forcefully. So what makes Meghan different to the others? What makes Leith so incensed that she had to be so negative about her in a TV interview? I am sure that Meghan is not the only touchy feely, hand moisturising celebrity on the planet.

Aside from your feelings about her estrangement from the royal family which has been discussed ad nauseam what legitimate reason is there for treating her like that?

Dame Prue Leith says she would not watch Meghan’s Netflix show: I am not a fan

The TV cook said she is unsure of ‘all that sort of touchy-feely mindfulness’.

Prue Leith is hardly the barometer for couth/uncouth! She was friends with an older couple who were, if I remember correctly, doing her a favour by offering her lodging in their home. She was “friends” with the wife, whilst sleeping with the husband behind her back. I’ll take advice elsewhere, thanks.

Tangentially, this idea of ‘impressing’ guests & friends - is it more American? Do we need to try to impress our friends? I want them to feel comfortable & enjoy the food & if it all goes wrong we’ll order pizza.

LeavesOnTrees · 14/03/2025 13:42

I'd never heard of Prue Leith, now I have, so for her job done.

AutumnCrowRoyale · 14/03/2025 13:44

'The Great British Bake Off judge, 85, was promoting the second series of Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen when she was asked if she had seen Meghan’s new lifestyle series, which also involves cooking and entertaining guests.'

She was asked. She answered. It's not a great mystery.

Prue Leith has form for being very judge of other women despite her own life choices.

Absolutely agree with this. I am no fan of Prue Leith!

Penko25 · 14/03/2025 14:08

Well, who does like MM? I mean anyone with a brain can see right through her & Prue is an intelligent woman.

They weren’t friends, he was her Godfather.

Off topic but Meghan “Marble” made me laugh.

lol
I saw someone call her MegSux which made me choke on my butterfly pea flower blue tea and shortbread crostini

She had an affair with her married godfather?

I’m not sure whether he was her godfather, but Prue was from South Africa and he was married to Prue’s mum’s best friend. Prue’s mum arranged for them to take Prue in for a while so she could find her feet in London. She then had an affair with him. And she also had an affair with another man. Classy.

I like MM. I don't get all the hate..I really don't.
Prue Leith can do one.Bring back Mary Berry.

thecatdidit · 14/03/2025 16:10

If you think Prue Leith is unlikeable, you should check out her son Danny Kruger .

IdaGlossop · 14/03/2025 16:41

I see this as the meeting of two personalities, one, MM, who has made herself into a target, and the other, Prue Leith, who pretends not to care what people think of her.

Exactly. It's not like she offered up her opinion unsolicited.

LadyKenya · 14/03/2025 17:10

She should worry about her own dubious character, before slating others! But no doubt all she is worried about is getting attention to the fact that she is the new judge, on the bake off. She has no grace.

Oh, I didn't see that. It is funny. I like it too.

I am turning into Mrs Malaprop because I almost wrote cereal killer in a subsequent post which, given the consensus on MM's new show, might have been appropriate.

But mostly celebrities are like politicians. She wouldn't have answered as candidly if the question had been posed about any other public figure - unless they were a serial killer or something - but she felt that she could answer that way because it was about MM.

Well now you've changed the parameters of the question you posed in your OP.

When the stakes are this high, right ..? You wanna ring-fence your parameters early on, showing up with meaning, so that you secure that crucial lens of transparency and joy, and you go, wow, this stuff, is incredibly impactful in all ways.

Well I think we probably need to research that - go back through Prue's interviews and see how she answers about other celebrities she's been asked about. Bearing in mind that it's okay to have opinions, and to like and not like people no matter what their heritage of course.

AutumnCrowRoyale · 14/03/2025 19:52

I didn't know about all the stuff re Pru Leith spoken of in the thread. Crikey. But it nevertheless just leads me to think, 'annoying minor celeb opines on other annoying minor celeb in inconsequential way'.

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 14/03/2025 19:57

All I can find is that she made some lighthearted comments about celebrity bake off participants only doing the show for fun. And she defended Gregg Wallace. Meghan receives special treatment.
