Prue Leith on Meghan Marble

I just saw this article about Prue Leith's pronouncement on Markle's new programme, which she says she would never watch. She says that she isn't a Markle fan because of all the "touchy feeliness" and talk about what creams you put on your hands. She says life is too short to think about what people think of you. Prue Leith is around 80 years old (?) is alway impeccably and colourfully dressed, her hair just so, her skin is lovely, she is always talking about food that is or isn't "worth the calories" - all of which which suggests that she very much cares what people think of her and that she takes a lot of time with her own appearance even though she is much older than Meghan who I would argue - as I would for all young women - that they should enjoy and relish their youth and beauty and make the most of it while it lasts.

My question however is about why Leith found it so easy to make this comment in public. I can't imagine her judging another celebrity so publicly and forcefully. So what makes Meghan different to the others? What makes Leith so incensed that she had to be so negative about her in a TV interview? I am sure that Meghan is not the only touchy feely, hand moisturising celebrity on the planet.

Aside from your feelings about her estrangement from the royal family which has been discussed ad nauseam what legitimate reason is there for treating her like that?

Dame Prue Leith says she would not watch Meghan’s Netflix show: I am not a fan

The TV cook said she is unsure of ‘all that sort of touchy-feely mindfulness’.

Thank you, Jeff.

I have never hidden the fact that I'm a POC when posting here. But you are correct, there's been a consistent, racist assumption by MM supporters that people like me don't exist on this board.

What difference does your skin colour make to whether comments about MM feed into a generally racist narrative?

Oh, and I was at Silverstone last year when Lewis Hamilton won (my kids are F1 mad). All of the (mostly white) spectators whom certain liberal commentators would dismiss as "gammon" were absolutely ecstatic. Considering what a mud bath it was, Hamilton winning turned the whole thing into a party.

So, one very successful, very wealthy person of colour being celebrated is proof of...what? And I am very interested to see evidence that liberal commentators labelled those specific spectators as "gammons". Do you have a link?

Apparently her main crime is being friends with Camilla now! 🤷‍♀️

It's not a crime, but it does help to understand her comments. Someone upthread said the subtext of her words was that she was defending a friend, which I can understand. I may not agree with it, but I get it.

As I have been on here for quite a number of years , I make a note of posters names and they have stated they are poc !
if you think they are not that’s a you issue!
and I’m certainly not going to compile a list of posters names and their ethnicity, it would be terribly disrespectful and against guidelines!
and frankly racist.

I would also question exactly why you think the default setting of posters on mn is “white “!
the U.K. is multicultural as is mn , not to mention that mn has many posters from across the globe! .

Oh you mean half the people on MN who criticise her are poc? I thought you meant in general and the person who questioned you probably did too.

And for the straw poll you have taken of every single comment made about MM since she came on the scene, you have recorded every single poc who has declared? I am not sure about your methodology, Jeff.

Meghan has worked her way up to where she is by doing a variety of things that I am sure went against her feminist ideas eg the famous letter re dish washing yet she went on to bbq in underwear sucking suggestively on a piece of meat and cleaning a house in a maid's skimpy outfit. She's sat on old men's knees when needed and has taken a part where she is the girl giving sex in a car . Now whether this shows determination or a desire for fame over principles I have no idea. It wasn't long before Harry that she was still going for gold. Yes her position was elevated by marrying Harry.

Dame Emma Thompson went full frontal in a film. So what? What are you exactly alluding to here? It is as though you are trying to say that she gave someone sex in a car rather than PLAYING someone who gave sex in a car. If you don't like it go after the directors, producers and screenwriters who provide very limited roles for young women (especially women of colour).

OP posts:
glitterturd · 19/03/2025 13:05

I am not alluding to anything ! What I am saying is that Meghan has made very public statements about her feminist beliefs continually bringing up the p and g letter but that in her career she has not shied away from roles that embody the very opposite. I was responding to a previous poster's comment about Meghan's current level of " fame" emanating from her marriage to Prince Harry. I think you need to reread my post if you got the interpretation that I said she actually had sex in a car on that occasion. I don't care about what roles actors choose to take but I do care about people who preach one thing and act in another way which is what both Harry and Meghan tend do. Are you saying she made these choices because of her colour?

"Are you saying she made these choices because of her colour?"

I'm saying that women (especially women of colour) are very limited in the roles that they are offered. What was the film or TV show in which she played a person who gives sex to men in cars? I am interested to know the context.

Why are you answering another posters replies?
this conversation was not about you or your comments.

and I’m not entirely sure why you are questioning @FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger, did you even see the post that led to her reply?
if so then your post is an example of what was mentioned in previous posts.

What on earth does this even mean???
straw poll ?
are you even reading people’s posts properly or just imagining the contents of the post to align to your answer.

Why are you questioning the lived experience of a poc poster?
you are beginning to display the very narrative in question!

it makes for very uncomfortable reading! I suggest you think before you post.

glitterturd · 19/03/2025 13:29

@ZebedeeDougalFlorencei am surprised you don't know about Meghan's previous roles as you are talking about limited roles etc . I would expect you to be well informed before commenting about them but now you have admitted you don't actually know.

I obviously wasn't clear. Let me spell it out (correct me if I'm wrong)

You said that half the people who criticise MM on here are poc.

You said that you know this because you make a note when posters reveal they are poc

A straw poll is an unofficial survey (which is what I am alluding to you having done by making a note of the posters who are poc).

Clearer?

I don’t follow her , but even I know the blow job scene was in the 90210 remake!

Weepixie · 19/03/2025 13:33

Not forgetting her role in the new version of 90210 where her part consisted of bobbing her head up and down from the passenger seat of a car whilst it was buried in the lap of the male actor.

And for clarification, making a note of someone posting often on a forum that you also use , means you recognise them!!! Not write a bloody list🙄
I can’t believe this needs to be explained to adults!
you become friendly with posters , they share life experiences, you remember things! Clear?

Most unclear.

But my question remains: how do you surmise that half of the MM naysayers on MN are poc? You can't remember or capture every poster, surely?

Perhaps when you said half the people who didn't like MM were poc it was just a figure of speech?
