at home with Archie as he stirs awake, sleepily telling her, “Mama, don’t work too hard.”

I think this is a very telling comment from a little boy, I think it leans into what a lot of commentators say about her not being around her kids a lot.

It resonates with me, my DH travels a lot for work, and I remember when our kids were younger, they would ask why he was going away again, his answer was always 'because I have to go to work' and he would get similar comments to what Archie said to his Mom.

It's actually quite sad really.

Yes that’s what I thought too.

Also, I am wondering if they were both brought up by parents who looked to their children to get their needs met. Diana was definitely like this, though I think William got the brunt of it. I suspect TM also looked to Meghan to meet some of his needs too. Perhaps they think this is a normal way to parent. Project all your neediness onto them and expect them to fulfil some idea of what you expect them to be in order to reflect well on you. Diana liked to tell anyone who would listen that Harry was the naughty thick one, like her. That became his identity I suspect and acting like someone who is thick and naughty brought him closer to her , especially when she had died. It’s such an unhealthy way to parent. It may be that Meghan gained approval from her father through acting since he was in that world to an extent. ‘Look at my pretty, clever daughter up there on the stage’. She’s learned that acting a part brings approval and gets attention . Perhaps he wasn’t the most attentive parent and she felt alone a lot of the time. Both of them had inattentive, distracted and damaged parents. It doesn’t bode well.

As long as it's a new improved, elevated thread @BasiliskStare !!!

MissFenellaPrism · 03/03/2025 18:40

"Duchess of The House speaking - Harry, get out the Royal Doulton with the hand painted periwinkles!"

Vespanest · 03/03/2025 18:40

The working too hard is interesting, Meghan sees this as a testament to the hard working mother that she sees herself as and yet if any of my children has said that I'd of had the gut punching guilt that you can't do it all and my children has noticed that something always has to give and in this case the time spent with them. It's not a story I'd share

Serenster · 03/03/2025 18:43

I just can't imagine ever saying such a thing out loud. It's breathtaking. Firstly, normally you'd give the journalist the name and number of people you've primed with the script, and let them talk to each other directly. Not so Meghan. She'll tell the interviewer straight up that she herself knows (whether true or not, who knows) she's brought her friends a lot of joy by allowing them to experience watching her live her life and then see her do that on a screen. I mean, who does this?? Who thinks like this?! I can imagine a friend saying in passing "it's so cool you get paid to just be you, so happy you're emerging from behind Harry's fame and becoming known for your own talent!", but this is something quite different.

I can do no better than quote Marina Hyde on this: Meghan is the godhead, the bestower of joy. She doesn’t find it, she creates it. (In her own head, at least).

If someone tells me how to link this thread I'll start one this time

Ref Mamas chicken.

My adult children refer to some of the things I’ve cooked for a long time as Mamas lamb curry, mamas chicken, mamas steak pie. And my grandchildren do the same but they call it Nanas lamb curry etc. It’s what they’ve always done of their own accord and it’s their way, I assume, of showing that in their opinion mine is the best.

That's the thing though, I still think longingly of some of my Nan's cooking (Black Country wench who made the best faggots from scratch) but it evolves naturally.

This just seems forced and performative to me.

Brits tend to downplay where as Americans are more confident to speak about what they have achieved

Indeed, @stillavid, but it kind of helps if the one speaking about their achievements has actually achieved something, and business-wise I'm just not seeing it here

Really though I'm mainly waiting to see the programme itself; the endless PR fluff is all very well, but I'd rather see the real thing

myrtleWilson · 03/03/2025 18:51

I do hope Meghan is working on a truffle flavoured pancake mix - it will fly off the shelves

BasiliskStare · 03/03/2025 19:06

Done the new thread - but now don't know how to link that one here ! But it is in the RF topic

Nah. “Don’t work too hard mama” said no five year old ever. She’s making that up

MissFenellaPrism · 03/03/2025 19:34

It's such a stupid falsehood, but then again....

A couple of pickled onions strategically placed will elevate your chips

And beetroot!

isaknowsbest · 03/03/2025 19:55

@Spectre8

"Some people do like to present their food at home nicely, I like my food to look appealing and not just put on a plate or in takeaway containers. I put my take away into plates, bowls etc. I often add extras, if I do order chips I add truffle to mine since I like truffle and not many places sell truffle chips.

You may decide not to and many other wouldn't but there are plenty of others who do."

I can't work out if you are serious or not ? 😂

NotaRealHousewife · 03/03/2025 19:55

@isaknowsbest Love your user name 🤣

isaknowsbest · 03/03/2025 19:58

You would think if they both had inattentive parents then they would want to spend as much time with their children when they are young as they can. I can't imagine Meghan with a stroppy teen!

MummyJ12 · 03/03/2025 19:59

I put my phone down for 5 minutes and we’re on page 40!
Thanks for sorting new thread @BasiliskStare 💗

Oh that article!
How Meghan always says,
”As a……mom/wife/sister….etc” as though she is saying something profound and is an authority on whatever she’s about to say.

Edited to add, I put prawn crackers in a bowl! Does that count?!
