The People article is a typical puff piece. What stands out to me is that every time she speaks about having an interaction with someone there is the implication that she is above them and they are flattered by the most minor attention. It's Duchess Meghan condescending to offer the crew a spoon, go to a yoga class, attend a birthday party.

It would jar if the actual Queen spoke like this but to see a minor royal who is detached from the family speak as if she is strewing magic with her presence is odd. I don't see that attitude in the senior royals (now that Andrew has left of course) and I'm not sure why Meghan would want to project that image of herself.

If jars with the parallel narrative or Chinese takeaway and filling lunchboxes. Is she a normal person or a visitor from a regal realm far above everyone? Once again she needs to choose.

IdaGlossop · 03/03/2025 17:17

Wrong. People will view With love, Meghan through a backwards-angled and relatable lens, creating community by supporting a strong, independent female founder 😆

We'll feel joyful when we recall her warmth and compassion and how she brought out the authentic self in us: We'll say to our husbands 'This was Meghan The Duchess of Sussex's way ' as we sprinkle dill on his grapefruit juice and rest our head on his shoulder as he drinks it.
He'll smile and say 'ah yes she is part of our love story now ' and the children will run to us saying 'Papa why is mama so beautiful?' And we'll all laugh together and someone will say 'thank goodness for WLM.'

It's actually hard to parody this.

stillavid · 03/03/2025 17:32

Tell me more about the yoga Meghan! As others have said, I would love it if she detailed her daily life/health/beauty regime - I think she looks fab so would be very interested in that.

I also think she dresses very well now she isn't constrained by the RF dress code.

I do think she is just very American and the way she speaks just doesn't appeal to the UK market.

Do we think the royals will be doing their own version of goggle box whilst they watch it??

BasiliskStare · 03/03/2025 17:36

@IcedPurple Oh Thank you - that article is such a hoot. She really is astonishing. & I agree with you I call bollocks on the yoga classes. & @StrawberryWasp I think the building a Mama family mythology is actually a bit creepy. These things evolve - they aren't imposed.

Anyway as well as what has been mentioned - here's two more.
"“There are tons of twists and turns — even with the name,” she says in her most intimate interview in years. “I was figuring it out in real time.”
As opposed ,Meghan, to the other people setting up a business who step into a parallel time universe using their Tardis . What you mean is you were having to run to catch up because you'd already launched ARO without having the trademark

"“It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children,” she says. “I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”
The Sussex name, she adds, “is part of our love story."
Oh , I think you had realised exactly how meaningful being the Duchess of Sussex would be before you had children. And being a feminist nothing to have stopped the whole family being Markle - Harry could have referred to himself as Markle . Doesn't quite have the same ring to it though, does it Meghan. Just a shame you're only a Duchess and the other three are Princes and Princess - Just sayin' 😊

Either her lack of self awareness is truly breathtaking - or she just doesn't give a flying hoot and thinks if she says something enough , enough people will believe it. It's actually a bit insulting if you think about it - and indeed care.
She doesn't really need The Cut or Vanity Fair - she can do quite a good hatchet job on herself.

IcedPurple · 03/03/2025 17:38

Onlyonekenobe · 03/03/2025 16:41

Just read that article. It's astonishing.

Even if you take it at face value, there's not a single thing she says that doesn't show her in a bad light. Self-absorbed is just the beginning of it.

But actually, given how People is effectively paid-for PR, it's worse than that. This is on a part with the The Cut article. She does not come across well in this AT ALL. Everything she says is communicated in such a way that it can be taken at face value (nauseating, per the above) or with hidden layers (per The Cut, and none of those layers do Meghan any favours).

To me, she comes across as a woman with an inflated sense of self: I'm just normal! We love normal! We lover normal so so so so much! And we love it extra because we haven't had it for ages because we're unique! So unique! With such unique problems! So unique that even having a surname in common is special unlike other people! But don't confuse me for a trad-wife who took her husband's name because I'm a feminist! Empowering girls and women all my life! Ugh I could go on but it's bleurgh. She is not likeable at all. Even in this article, she comes across to me as bitter and resentful and beyond arrogant. Yuck.

I think the thing about the Sussex surname was kind of a clap back at the criticism for hanging on to her title.

As you say, everything has a 'hidden layer'.

And yes to the 'unique' thing? What did she mean when others in Montecito realised their 'unique' situation? They're just another minor celebrity family there, by far not the richest or most famous. And that thing about '40 or 50' people turning around to look at her as she entered the mammoth yoga class? Yet none have taken photos or mentioned anything on social media? The 'paps' who chase her haven't figured out that she's a regular there?

I agree the interview doesn't paint her in a good light at all. And this is a PR puff piece. She is simply not likeable and nothing can make her so.

Yes it's the: I live like a normal person sometimes, which is so condescending: I speak to people at the school, my children play with other rich children, I go to yoga.

But she does it better than everyone else and everyone loves her because they can see she's better than them.

She sends thoughtful gifts with witty cards. They make assault courses for play dates. They have scared silences.

It would be embarrassing if others talked about you like this but to talk about yourself like this is excruciatingly cringe.

She obviously did not understand The Cut article and the satire. She is astoundingly oblivious.

Mylovelygreendress · 03/03/2025 17:42

That article 🤦‍♀️
I would love to hear some of the Sussex supporters ( where are they ??) try to defend this utter nonsense .

Why not just ask one of the '40 or 50' plebs who supposedly attend the same class?

As for her 'regime', I'm guessing it consists of the usual 'tweakments' and chemical help which most rich ladies in California partake in.

I also think she dresses very well now she isn't constrained by the RF dress code.

What dress code? I thought she dressed in a much more interesting way as a royal. Now she's all bland beige. Maybe she thinks that's how rich ladies dress?

Do we think the royals will be doing their own version of goggle box whilst they watch it??

I doubt they will watch it.

She didn't have a dress code as such, obviously formal day wear for certain events involved a hat. All couture, all paid for by Charles.
It wasn't true that she had to wear "subdued colours". That was such a foolish claim. A quick google reveals her in bright yellow, green, blue and purple.
.

BemusedAmerican · 03/03/2025 17:44

@stillavid I'm an American with a very public-facing job. I interact with hundreds of people daily. That is NOT an American way of speaking. It also doesn't appeal to many Americans.

Quite. Most Americans have to deal with regular people in regular situations and am sure have no time for this nonsensical verbal flim flammery.

myrtleWilson · 03/03/2025 17:46

@StrawberryWasp I can't tell if your "scared silences" was a typo or real!

IdaGlossop · 03/03/2025 17:51

I have good news for Meghan, who must be struggling behind the scenes to get As Ever trademarked in time for the launch in....May. Lady Garden, a natural successor to the failed American Riviera Orchard, is available https://furm.com/trademarks/lady-garden-74698401, having been abandoned by a previous applicant in 1996. It's ideal, calling to mind Meghan's mom/wife/Royal identity and the verdant growth of the hills she calls home.

Dolaly · 03/03/2025 17:51

She's writing her own mythology and pretending the kids say things they don't, and then imagining a future where they wax lyrical about her.
It's weirdly insane.

Exactly this, she is a fantasist.

Uricon2 · 03/03/2025 17:51

I'd like a watch along with Sophie, Kate, Camilla and Zara.

Best. Gogglebox. Episode. Ever.

MissRoseDurward · 03/03/2025 17:53

I'd like a watch along with Sophie, Kate, Camilla and Zara.

And Anne.

Uricon2 · 03/03/2025 17:55

And Anne.

Definitely! 😂

ETA I'd actually pay a doubled Netflix sub to hear her opinion of the tomato ladybirds.

Grandiose and delusional.

It's just hilarious - she really is off her t*ts - highly entertaining.

It's way beyond cringe.

I wonder how you plate chips and curry sauce beautifully?

With edible flowers sprinkled on top?

IcedPurple · 03/03/2025 17:57

I've just eaten my evening meal straight out of the silicone air fryer basket.

Maybe if I watch the show, I'll learn how to 'beautifully plate' it instead.

It was tasty though. So there's that.

MissFenellaPrism · 03/03/2025 17:57

Oh my goodness, this pair are so entertaining!

Like restaurants do, sauce in a dipping bowl and chips go in a bowl or wire basket or on napkin in rattan style basket or upright in metal pot. If needed sprinkle on salt or pepper. Can even add truffle (shavings or oil) or grated cheese.

Lots of ways 🤷‍♀️

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 03/03/2025 17:58

She is simply not likeable and nothing can make her so.

And that's it, really, in a nutshell.
