TBH I can't imagine what it is like for "ordinary" people faced with a significant role in a Royal wedding. I thought eg Jack Brooksbank's parents looked terrified at points and that's with a background that is very British and with Eton, Stowe and various baronetcies in play.

I rewatched some of Kate and William’s wedding on the ten year anniversary and noticed how ‘ultra calm’ Carol Middleton was it made me wonder if she’d taken something for her nerves or maybe that plus some pre wedding Botox - she keeps her face so in control the whole time - I’d have been weeping for half of it.

Also there’s a moment when they stand up and are singing the national anthem and they are staring right across at the Queen just a couple of meters away - must have been so weird to sing that anthem that you’ve done many times before but you’re singing it right to her face!

Naughty cameraman focused on them during that moment but they managed not to make any weird faces.

@wordler

I suspect by the time William and Kate got married they were very comfortable being around Royalty and the accompanying razzamatazz.

MissRoseDurward · 02/03/2025 16:38

I don't think it was necessarily even lack of discretion, rather that Thomas might quite innocently say in the course of conversation something that was at odds with the story of her life that M had been telling - that she'd never had any extended family, or that she'd had to work her way through college, for example.

isaknowsbest · 02/03/2025 16:41

MaturingCheeseball · 02/03/2025 16:10

I agree that Thomas could not be trusted to keep his trap shut. A couple of beers and…

He went to her first wedding; I just googled and he and Doria walked her “across the sand”. Apparently the wedding invitation featured Meghan in a bikini 🤭

Here you go - the first wedding invitation and Meghan playing beach olympics with some guest on the left.

Didn't Harry say, soon after their engagement, "the RF were the family Meghan never had", guess that family didn't last long either.

It's the strangest reversal and flip flopping of how they tried to present things, I think Harry really, really wanted to be part of the big family, which he genuinely seemed to love, until Meghan convinced him he was trapped. I would say it must be heartbreaking for him to be missing out now he has his own family.

How on earth must her mother and father have felt hearing Harry say that ?

elessar · 02/03/2025 16:44

The Thomas Markle thing is really very odd.

What he did with the photoshoot is a bit naive and embarrassing, but it's not the crime of the century. I mean even dyed in the wool royals have committed similar faux pas in the past. Nowhere near worth being completely cut off by your daughter who you've always had a great relationship with.

Then the fact he had a heart attack and surgery and she still didn't fly over to see him, or indeed express any concern (in fact didn't he get angry voicemails from Harry while he was in hospital?) - the whole thing is really unbelievably callous and cold. It should have rung huge alarm bells for Harry, but he's too thick and totally infatuated by her to ever question her version of events.

It's behind a paywall

I remember the Major Ron Ferguson "massage parlour" debacle, what TM did is very minor by comparison and could have been turned round. Had there been the will to.

Ah but don't forget William wasn't his best man
Harry later claimed that despite accompanying him to the wedding, standing by his side, brandishing the ring etc etc he wasn't his best man at all and it was all for show.
When I heard that I thought Harry has most definitely lost the plot.

Didn't he also complain that William turned down his request to stay over at the hotel the night before the wedding, rather than going home to be with his wife and not quite 4 week old baby?

Oh, he's no idea what the heck went on. That would explain a lot of the nonsense in Spare.

Dastardly plot by Charles and Catherine to scupper Meghan's potential jam and homewares empire.

Yes & this was partly because Kate had upset M over bridesmaid dress gate & feelings running high. That & something about his oversensitivity about a row over a beard.

isaknowsbest · 02/03/2025 17:13

Harry's a big whingey girl's blouse 😂

smilingeleanor · 02/03/2025 17:16

Meghan posting more of lilibet on her instagram - I really think the children are going to be fully featured in a few months to generate more exposure. Wonder how Harry really feels about that.

You can tell there is not much Plantagenet blood there any more. I bet Edward I is revolving in Westminster Abbey at the thought of successors falling out over lip gloss, bridesmaids tights, air fresheners and beards (and as far as I can ever see, W&C are not the Hurty Feels squad behind it)

ETA you need the Devil's Brood, the sons of Henry II, for a proper sibling scrap. No dogbowls involved.

He didn't seem too bothered by the bathtime photos of Archie in their 'documentary'.

That was a good one.
