As Ever

Meghan has renamed her luxury lifestyle brand 'As Ever'.

'As Ever essentially means as it's always been, and if you've followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I've always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do,' she said. '

Ass Ever, Meghan. Looking forward to it.

Cross post! I think Mishal Hussain commented that she believed she was doing a genuine interview when Meghan claimed it was "curated" for the masses.

I can't believe they tried to attack the fragrant Mishal! I think she also said "recollections may vary".

Well that's me, and I have money to chuck around on that sort of thing. But I would not go to somewhere like a Netflix store full of tat to buy some generic factory jam with her name on it - or even the name of someone l particularly admire. If the product itself is just shitty factory jam, what's the point in spending $20+ on it. What little bit of MM's life is this giving me?

So if the house is stunning, but it's not hers, what bit of MM's authentic life are we getting from the house?

That's a really good point.

People who buy a celebrity branded product probably know it's no better than something they could buy elsewhere for half the price. But they are paying for the association, for a tiny little slice of that person's life, or at least the fantasy life their carefully managed brand tells us they have. So we know that Nigella may not use her own branded cookware and Jennifer Aniston doesn't wash her hair with L'Oreal Elvive, but the association still works, and people buy it. Literally.

The trouble is, instead of patiently building up to this launch over the years, Meghan has just popped it on us, and now expects us to take her seriously as some sort of domestic goddess. And the whole thing just seems very contrived, even by influencer standards. She's not filming in her own home, her children are just assorted limbs and backs of heads, and she's no longer even claiming the products have any real association with California. So what is the USP here? I don't see one.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 18/02/2025 13:07

Thinking about it, As Ever is presumably a compromise based on the fact that it's tied in to Netflix, but Netflix aren't tied into them beyond September.

Perhaps it was supposed to be "With love, Meghan" originally to tie in with the show and Netflix stores - but they realised that as Netflix weren't committed, they couldn't risk tying it too hard?

So the two world phrase had to be swapped from "with love" to "as ever".

Imagine doing an interview, in all good faith, and the couple just make up a lot of nonsense.

Yes! My daughter has his book. She is a petrol head. She is also a woman of colour, yet I still criticise her 😉

What has she done to her face and teeth, she looks strange. Also the problem is she makes so many announcements and launches that don't amount to anything it's kind of meaningless now.

She's lost quite a bit of weight over the past few years, so I think her veneers look a bit out of proportion. The weird camera angles don't help. I know she's trying to come across as 'authentic' but I think she could have got a professional to film the video where she's launching her new brand.

I suspect there's more than one interviewer who has had to look back and question the good faith of this pair. Cough, Tom Bradby, cough.

I have a lot of sympathy for Meghan and Harry but this latest bollocks is really starting to hack me off. I am sure at one point they said they left so they could concentrate on highlighting issues that were important to them and I admired that. She has a platform she could use to at least try to make a difference instead of cooking cakes in fancy dresses. It's just a bit dreary.

I totally agree. Started off really liking them together and thinking she was being unfairly criticised by a bunch of fuddy duddy old racists who couldn't move with the times.

Started to feel a bit on the fence when some of the more negative stories came about her but still reserved judgement and wanted to be on their side.

Then Harry started all his embarrassing ranting and wailing about how hard they've had it. throwing members of his family under the bus. All very undignified. I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I know he's been traumatised by what happened to his mum, but I started to think he should really just keep his mouth shut because every time he opened it he managed to make himself and his wife less popular and less easy to empathise with, not more.

I'm now at the point where I think they are an embarrassment and I wish they'd just go away quietly and live the 'out of the spotlight' life they claimed they wanted.

Having just listened to The Rest is Entertainment talking about celebrity perfume and the vast sums you can make, I think Meghan should produce a fragrance. She needs to pick a demographic to aim it at but it could sell really well for her.

She could name it "smells like bullshit" or go for a relly floral fragrance because she truly believes her $hit don't stink.

DuchessDissasster · 18/02/2025 13:22

She did already promote this stuff so could elevate this?

The beauty of Tom Bradby’s interview was that we were all witness to Tom’s lightbulb moment !

I agree perfume would been a much better idea than anything we've seen so far @MrsLeonFarrell . Ritzy, glamourous campaign where she could have been in head to toe couture, she could have been involved in the process and talked about it in the context of smells she loves. I'm sure that a few years ago she'd have had no trouble in pitching that idea and getting collaboration.

Even now, it would be better than jam, honey and dog biscuits.

ETA also a cosmetic/body care line generally? I imagine a fair bit of Vic Becks revenue is from her (very good) brands of these rather than expensive frocks.

Atlusvue · 18/02/2025 13:33

Will she be able to secure As Ever as a trademark? I can’t imagine a sign off could? Isn’t it too generic?

You wouldn’t get a TM for ‘ With Love’ or ‘Love Always’

I remember Paris Hilton attempting to TM ‘that’s hot’ in the 2000s. Obviously a common phrase couldn’t be TM

Oh God yeah, I can imagine her being filmed travelling glamorously around the world sourcing rare ingredients from fairtrade women's cooperatives. Each scent would tell a tale (at great length, judging by her Instagram waffle). Add some classy packaging (i.e. not going down the Britney Spears route but just something simple without her face on it, just call it "With Love"), and heck, if it smelt nice, I'd buy it. Despite her.

I was also confused about their chicken comment at first, but it was not as innocent or silly as it appeared. Apparently, it's a reference to a gay sexual position - and they were making fun of the general public with their smutty double entrendre. Nasty.

Haha hilarious. You sound like a pearl clutching caricature from Little Britain.

Atlusvue · 18/02/2025 13:36

Also, just where are the superfans?

I remember the arguments that ARO wasn’t ‘launched’….even though it was, that she will get the TM ….and there’s no way that it would.

Have they just tired of defending the indefensible?

Nigella is intelligent and interesting.
She is also a good writer and cook.
Very different.

Nigella also filmed her early series in her own kitchen, she eventually moved to a studio kitchen.
