Meghan has renamed her luxury lifestyle brand 'As Ever'.

'As Ever essentially means as it's always been, and if you've followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I've always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do,' she said. '

wooliegloves · 18/02/2025 19:18

@wordler fair point & I don't see the issue with a bit of piss taking, I would agree they are super cheesy. Perhaps some of the below end up dominating the more light hearted posts & I do find it fascinating the way a post that disagrees with them is jumped on.

"On Mumsnet you've only got a handful of posters who fall in the real hater end of the pool"

The PR aspect of it is definitely going to be taught in classes in the future of a blueprint of how not to launch a brand and business.

Definitely

'would class camping out all night to wave, cheer & bow for a stranger simply because they are in a position of power as forelock-tugging.'

People camp out all night for all kinds of things, new release Iphones, sales etc. It really isn't 'forelock tugging' to be a fan of something. I'm not a big royalist, don't mind them, can take them or leave them but Harry and his non stop whining is very tedious.

My DH spent quite a few Christmas mornings at Sandringham as part of the press pack. He said the diehard royal fans were very helpful in ascertaining exactly what people were wearing, eg something he would have described as "pink" was in fact "crushed raspberry".

NotaRealHousewife · 18/02/2025 19:19

@LipglossAlly Thankfully Charles isn't you and hasn't sued his son

wooliegloves · 18/02/2025 19:20

@janie but you understand cheering and bowing to someone simply because they are King is different to cheering for Taylor Swift?

Grimshadylady · 18/02/2025 19:20

wordler · 18/02/2025 19:08

I think it seems like blanket criticism but it more that there's such a variety of types of comments from the light-hearted snark to the other end of the spectrum with the ones who dislike everything about her.

On Mumsnet you've only got a handful of posters who fall in the real hater end of the pool (on swamp pits like Twitter or the comment section of the Daily Mail you will find them in abundance)

Here it's a combination of people who find all the missteps both baffling and mildly amusing, those who support the constitutional monarchy so are critical of certain things both H&M have done, and those who just like seeing an entitled celebrity unmasked (so not really personal to Meghan just to anyone who puts themselves in the public eye)

The PR aspect of it is definitely going to be taught in classes in the future of a blueprint of how not to launch a brand and business.

I'm fascinated in the psychological elements of their behaviour and story.

What are the missteps? Missteps because you choose to label it as such. Most things in life do not go smoothly. Is Prince William's endless search for something meaningful missteps? Like the solving of homelessness? How is that going and how many "missteps" has he had along the way? What about Prince Edward and the string on "missteps" including the famous reality game thing? I could point to other Royals but ...

I can't see missteps. I see someone refining their business and doing quite well in landing lucrative contracts, with some working out better than the others. That is life and that is business. They are moving in the right direction.

The thing is, every wrong that is pointed at in Meghan's direction, members of the Royal family can be accused of the same in spades.

The hypocrisy is a joke. And I honestly do not think there are only a handful of haters. There is a substantial number that just can't move on. Who spend their time doing nothing but going on and on about a women who left this island long time ago. I haven't done so but I bet if I look at the posts of most of the people making negative comments here, they would for the vast majority of their posts be focused mainly on Meghan and all of it would be negative (or they would be new handles that have never posted and was only formed to criticise Meghan). Just too predictable and boring.

I bet her Netflix series and her website are going to rake in the money. In the final analysis, that is the key measure of success. No one cares about polls ran by British Media or sponsored by British Media. No one cares about manufactured negative comments on Youtube, Netflix or wherever else. What matters is the money rolling in, people watching, people talking (praise or complaints does not matter).

I know most of you will cancel your Netflix and that is small mercies because we won't have to see posts upon posts from all of you complaining about the show or her website. There is no way you hate this woman and will be contributing to money in her pocket. No way. That would be weird.

What about the existing clothing brand called as ever? After the trademark problems with the last brand name, surely they will have made sure everything was good to go before announcing this? Nothing would surprise me though. These 2 seem have to extreme difficulty with taking advice and just do whatever they want

I think if she's not planning to sell clothes the existing 'As Ever' brand may not matter.

I do think that, yet again, the 'launch' is being rushed out to get ahead of a media story. The trademark hasn't even been approved and there seem to be no products to sell. But there will be jam!

Atlusvue · 18/02/2025 19:24

As ever….

The thread derailed to distract from the rebrand of the rebrand shit show

@PigglyWigglyOhYeah

"A show of excessive deference toward someone in a superior position. An allusion to the former act of pulling one's frontmost hair in lieu of having a hat to tip."

I would count sleeping in a tent all night, bowing etc as the above. What would you use as an example?

Possible legal action too with the logo and she doesn’t even own the @asever insta handle

As ever….a right royal fuck up

I see people cheering in exactly the same way.
The bowing tends to be at formal events whicn tbh they do need to stop imo. No need for bowing and curtseys in this day and age but the average fan doesn't stand on the Mall bowing as they go past.

NotaRealHousewife · 18/02/2025 19:27

What's with "the cat is out of the bag"? Was anyone waiting with bated breath for her to change the name?

wooliegloves · 18/02/2025 19:27

Why if posters don't agree & things going off topic which is very normal on MNs & forums in general does it get labelled as derailment @Atlusvue?

The logo looks kind of generic so not sure there'll be any legal action there. Crap logo for a homewares brand in any case.

I would have thought with the involvement of NF the roll out would be a bit more professional, but no.

Agree it needs to stop. There are levels though, I don't think the average fan does camp out overnight etc but that wasn't who the poster was referring to when talking about sycophants.

BunnyLake · 18/02/2025 19:33

It’s derailment to include other topics. It’s very easy to set up a new thread to talk about other Royals and other royal stories. But that’s never the intention.

As ever…..it’s to steer the conversation away from the current topic.

wooliegloves · 18/02/2025 19:34

I do agree with that & I guess that's why I question the criticism. They may be spoilt, entitled, hapless, work shy, indiscreet, gaffe prone etc but nothing that hasn't been levelled at other members of the RF bar perhaps the Queen.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 18/02/2025 19:34

wooliegloves · 18/02/2025 19:07

@Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot when you said keep doing I assumed you meant current actions particularly in the context of the thread title. The interview & book were years ago.

How many rebrands does that need? Thats the outrageous bit. To keep ‘launching’ the same old nonsense and never actually moving it any further than that.

So relaunching & rebranding is outrageous? I don't think it's the most sensible business model but wouldn't call it outrageous.

It’s outrageous to keep doing it to sell jam. (I did say semi-outrageous in my original post though iirc, so slightly tongue in cheek). You could also substitute the word ‘outrageous’ for ‘pointless’ if that suits you better.

Because it is pointless to keep making breathless videos to re-brand to sell jam. Completely stupid, shallow and empty.

Pointless is more fitting than outrageous.
But maybe it won't be pointless, it generates press & some subscribe to the no such thing as bad publicity view. Who knows, we may all be eating the jam in a few months time & thinking it's the best jam ever 😆
