He has a day off to UNWIND????

He needs downtime from Meghan.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 13/02/2025 05:26

I think it's so weird that Meghan is cheering Harry on. No mention of cheering on the actual competitors and wishing them luck/success. God, she's awful.

The funny thing is that Meghan has previously worn Invictus branded clothing. Here she is in Sydney. But now she is earning a private commercial income, she has switched to multiple wardrobe changes daily with the details briefed to friendly media. And clearly, people cannot see why that causes her to be regarded with scepticism.

Meghan looks lovely there. Personally I think wearing branded Invictus clothing would have looked more authentic than multiple changes of clothes but im not her advisor. Missed trick I think.

Serenster · 13/02/2025 07:03

I admit I haven’t looked at all of Meghan instagram reels, but I didn’t see that she’s tagged the officlal weareInvictus account in any of them? That would have helped too.

Meghan did the smart thing in going home. The Canadian media's been brutal about her and it's really distracting from the Games.

Whether it was Netflix who insisted on her pulling out, or the rest of the Invictus Board (both are rumoured; I think the Netflix rumour is more credible) she did the right thing so fair play to her.

I'm sure it wasn't easy. You all may recall that one of the key messages put out by the Palace at the time their relationship was confirmed was that Meghan is a very big star and adored in Canada. The Palace put this out to get ahead of the objection that no one had ever heard of her as an actress (the US media was making this point), and the UK media obediently published and amplified the message.

Indeed Meghan and Harry have both spoken a number of times about how much they love and feel at home in Canada. You may recall the 2020 interview in which Harry said Vancouver Island was his 'happy place' because the Canadian media is non-intrusive and non-bullying. So it must be disappointing to them that the Canadian coverage of Invictus has been so scathing of Meghan - even the left leaning press, which surprised me.

My only other thought is Harry doesn't look well, very red in the face. He might have inherited Charles' tendency to high blood pressure. Charles started to get very red in the face from his late 50s on.

FenellaFeldman · 13/02/2025 07:21

@GiveMeSpanakopita they could live in Canada if they wanted to, surely?
They have chosen California. They want to be part of that celebrity cohort.
Meghan has gone from Invictus, she has her reasons. However, trying to get clicks and headlines by having obvious PDAs at this sort of event is a bit desperate. I understand that interest wanes, but that's what they've signed up for. They've relied on being controversial and spilling beans, but that can't be sustained.
It's tough being a celebrity with not much to sell.

I really don't see NF micromanaging Meghan's life in the service of a 'lifestyle show' which is pretty insignificant to them. I don't think they care enough about it or her. I don't think the IG management are going to tell the founding patron's wife what to do either. They've seemed happy to indulge her for the past three games.

I think it's more likely, as I said above, that she got what she wanted from the IG and couldn't be bothered hanging around in the cold any longer. She may take the eco friendly private jet back for the relatively glamorous closing ceremony, but she's likely had enough of making small talk with strangers who are puzzled as to why she's there at all.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 13/02/2025 07:38

@GiveMeSpanakopita do you have any examples of the Canadian media, I've looked but finding coverage at all, regardless of good or bad, has been difficult, I assumed the Canadian's weren't interested.

Mylovelygreendress · 13/02/2025 07:56

Just seen a video of Meghan’s arrival at SA . Apparently she travelled alone apart from a security guard .
Wow that’s a lot of luggage for 5 days !

Catherine wearing a dress, not branded clothing, at Wimbledon.

I can't lie the standing ovation she got was really moving. She's been through so much and looks so happy and well. Cancer treatment really takes it out of a person and I will confess to being a bit emotional when these pics first came out.

It's a beautiful dress - I'd completely forgotten about it up until now - thank you for reminding me @JoyousGreyOrca ! :-)

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/02/2025 08:14

People are making a good point about the focus of Meghan's Instagram posts. They all centre her and Harry, none of it focuses on the games or the competitors. Her new PR really need to explain how this comes across.

Mylovelygreendress · 13/02/2025 08:15

But will they listen ?

Camilla and Elizabeth never wore branded sports clothing. But strangely people were not on here complaining about them wearing expensive clothing.

Camilla and Elizabeth?
So casual!
One was the reigning Queen, the other now the queen, both were pensioners.
The worst whataboutery I ever seen!

Agree. Also, every time Catherine goes to a Wimbledon, she wears her Wimbledon bow which indicates that she is part of the governing organisation as Patron.

Yep, CTV, Globe & Sun, and Postmedia's stable. Are you Google searching from UK or EU? If you have Search Console, Tor or similar, you can change the settings to Canada and US.

Invictus holds a firm place in Canadians' hearts, quite apart from the national love of winter sports. But, the alleged wheelchair shoving incident went down very badly (I saw the footage and I don't think she deliberately shoved it; I think she was trying to help the lady by giving her more room). H&M aren't as popular in Canada as they used to be anyway - recall all the outrage about possibly having to fund their security in 2023. Bill Morneau had to come out and deny it.

I also think Meghan's popularity may be slightly negative affected by the general Canadian animosity to the US at the moment due to Trump's tariffs. The chorus of Boos at the NBA game last week were not what I expect from the generally polite Canadians, but it shows the strength of feeling.

And when the late Queen was young the expectations on her were very different. No one expected or wanted her to turn up in a branded tracksuit and throw a ball. These days the fact that Catherine and William do that is part of what brings attention to the causes they are highlighting.

jeffgoldblum · 13/02/2025 08:26

Looking at the registration it is the aircraft that has popped up at least once before in connection with the couple and IG….

TBH to some extent I can live with / ignore the displays of PDA but the thought that IG might be footing the bill for this flying gin palace, especially trips during the games, not just in association with opening and closing ceremonies, is starting to grind the gears. I do think IG owe supporters/potential supporters a bit of transparency on this issue.

Previously there have been a few suggestions Boeing might sponsor the couples’ travel but I suspect if they did so they’d insist on the couple using one of their own products, rather than the product of one of their competitors in the business jet market.

jeffgoldblum · 13/02/2025 08:30

Very interesting that we have had day after day of slip ups and no defence in sight!

Now after Meghan goes home and deleted the pictures from instagram, we have two !

It doesn’t really matter if it was a shove or to give the lady more room, @GiveMeSpanakopita , you don’t move someone in a chair without their permission. As I said previously, they are not a piece of furniture and you wouldn’t do it to someone who was standing on their feet. DH is wheelchair bound so I know how annoying this is (not to mention alarming, if someone suddenly pulls you backwards without warning)

Oh yes absolutely @smilesy , and to be clear I wasn't defending the action Meghan took.

I wouldn't like being suddenly 'moved' by a third party, so of course people who happen to use wheelchairs don't, either!

I was just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt as to her intentions.

In general I always try to give Meghan as much BOD as possible. It's a helpful mindframe to have, given that valid criticism of her is often characterised as unreasonable hate.

Ironic giving there’s footage of Meghan looking for all the world like she unceremoniously moved a lady she is talking to several degrees to the lady’s right so Meghan has her most flattering angle facing the camera that’s filming them!

CatsWhiskerz · 13/02/2025 08:47

She moves everyone to where she feels the 'best shot' for her / Harry is @smilesy - I honestly think she thought it was ok to do that ... mainly because she's a self centred arse, but of course she's wrong, it is tantamount to pulling someone standing backwards or shoving them sideways - she's so bloody rude
