The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

1000 replies

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

Queen Consort yes. Queen, no.

Yep, knew it was going to be this nonsense again.

How many times do people need it explained to them that all wives of kings are Queens Consort, known as Queen Name and that referring to Camilla as Queen Consort is nothing specific to her, nothing different to the late Queen Elizabeth II's own mother, grandmother, great-grandmother etc? It is also entirely normal and expected that whilst remaining Queen Consort she is also referred to and crowned as Queen Camilla. Just the same as Catherine will be in the future.

Serenster · 24/01/2025 15:54

CeceliaImrie · 24/01/2025 15:51

Queen Consort yes. Queen, no.

Not this again.

“Queen Consort” is her position. Because she is Queen by virtue of being the wife of The King, and so is not Queen Regnant in her own right (as QEII was)

“Her Majesty the Queen” is the title of every woman who has held the Queen Consort position. Or the Queen Regnant. It’s how you address the Queen.

jeffgoldblum · 24/01/2025 15:55

Don't bother @DappledThings , it's been explained extensively over and over again, no one listens.

NormaMajors1992coat · 24/01/2025 16:02

If people wonder why anyone cares about H+M, surely it's even more bizarre that people are still upset that Camilla is the queen and gets called that? And the colluding in the grooming of a 19-year-old stuff is next level deranged, right up there with my mother was basically murdered 😬

jeffgoldblum · 24/01/2025 16:03

It's particularly annoying as this isn't ancient history, a lot of us were around when all these things happened and saw it first hand !

I don’t really follow royal stuff, but Harry and Meghan are by far my favourites. I’m not sure why it’s so controversial that they wanted out of England but I support it—she faced foul racism from the public as well as the usual bs that comes with being notable.

This isn’t meant to start an argument, but I am curious why so many people hate her. I think there are far worse members of the family to be focused on, if that’s your thing.

jeffgoldblum · 24/01/2025 16:26

Apart from two headlines and an awful tweet from Danny baker , where are the rest?
Honestly would love someone to share it , so we can judge ourselves.

I mean you might just as well ask why some people have H+M as their favourites. They have really put a lot of themselves out there, lots of words and behaviour and evidence of what they're like - people come to their own conclusions and not all of them will be the same as yours 🤷‍♀️

I think hate is pushing it a bit but surely you have heard an inkling of why people don't like them, is it really sooooo amazing? 🤔

NormaMajors1992coat · 24/01/2025 16:41

NB here's another one using England instead of UK... and who doesn't follow royal stuff but Harry and Meghan are their faves. Even I can see this now and practically everything goes over my head 🤦‍♀️

I'm an ex journalists. The reason H&M get so much press is because the lovely Camilla has the Palace and press bods such as the Piers Morgan et al in her back pocket.

How else would a woman who helped her now husband groom a 19-year-old into a marriage to be a breeding machine while she was in bed with him at the same time become the fucking Queen of English against our dear departed utterly decent Queen Elizabeth II wishes.

Camilla's rehabilitate into the public's good books is nothing less than a feat of extravagance PR. Wo,ring for a tabloid involves nothing lees, than st stunt tiles around what you can and cannot say about these parasites.

We now see this co-conspirator in Dianas abuse call herself an advocate for abused women..amazing!

As for the like of Vanity Fair, who exactly do you think their sources are?

I don’t believe you’re a journalist your SPAG is appalling

Agree and as I said it removes validity.

@NormaMajors1992coat

Here is what the VF article wrote: Peele says that the unidentified person allegedly acting for Meghan made it clear that the couple were not getting divorced, but was seeking to know, if such a divorce did happen, “would this publisher theoretically be interested in a book that took place in its aftermath?”

So a person not identified allegedly claims. So it's not a fact, it's not been verified to be true. It's basically a rumour.

And furthermore not even a book ready to flogged, not even they are grtfing divorced. But IF they did would a book be of interest. That's the alleged claim.

It's so tenuous, it's just basically gossip and speculation and based on nothing. It's not even verified!

Vanity Fair is a well-respected publication in the US and the writer is a well-respected journalist. The VF story has been picked up by several other serious news outlets in the US.

It is not unusual for a journalist to protect sources, which is all that is happening here. This journalist will have verified each claim with at least two other reliable sources before publication. The VF article also passed "legal," which means the lawyers, whose job it is to ensure that H&M have no grounds to sue, also verified all claims before publication. Also, H&M were given the opportunity to refute every claim in the article, which they declined to do.

This is going back some years but it was pretty noted at the time how much racially motivated abuse she was getting from the general public, especially online? I feel like that will be available to find online but I even remember people in person being disturbed or disappointed he married someone who wasn’t white.

Does there need to be more though, really? Three very public incidents are more than enough to feel sorry for her, never mind the general public.

You realise you just provided the cue for the rehashibg of how unfairly poor M was treated regarding avocados, the bump-cradling, and all rest....

They’re my favourite, probably because of my generation. I’m closer in age to them and knew of her before they got married. My older cousin was obsessed with Harry- it’s really not deep. Remember, I’m not an avid follower of the royals; I only know a tiny portion of what everyone has said or done. I wasn’t trying to start an argument; I just wanted to understand better why it seems like everyone unanimously hates them/her, because from what I know, she had a hard time and he was supportive of her.

We know that this abuse was racially motivated - how?

We know it all emanated from salty Brits - how?

What racial abuse was she getting in the UK that was NOT online? Got any links to reports of not-online racial abuse during her time in the UK? I can't imagine Plod turning a blind eye.

And the abuse she is getting online these days? Is it all still racially motivated? None of it emanating from the US?

Oh, and if you remember people in.person being disturbed about H marrying someone who was not white, you might want to reflect on the company you keep. I don'tvremember a single person of my acquaintance who cared.

jeffgoldblum · 24/01/2025 17:22

Aye @Rhaidimiddim , I do now but still struggle to understand how those things are racism?
Criticism about behaviour and actions and own words isn't racism.

And it seems my answer is vague... other people noticed and probably online!
Well hate to nitpick but that isn't proof and online is global so obviously not specific to the U.K. .

I'm fed up of this continuous nonsense, the vast majority in the U.K. don't care or notice skin colour, we are surrounded by friends and others , it doesn't register, obviously you will get a small amount of bigotry from a small percentage but that's true of any country.

It seems that some can't fathom that some people don't like Meghan because of Meghan regardless of her skin tone , and I will add a lot of posters here are not white either, despite the blanket assumption on here.

I think there is a clue there.. from what you know, but you only know a tiny portion? So maybe find out some more about it, I expect if you look really hard you can find some info 👍

By "supportive" do you mean that time when Meghan was suicidal and Harry wouldn't get her any help? Or maybe when she was in labour and he took all the gas and air? Or when he went on tv and said that she was wrong about the RF being racist, it was merely unconscious bias and anyway Lady Hussey didn't mean any harm?

I’m not saying that criticism is racism, I’m saying racism is racism and that is what I was talking about.

I wanted to hear some other reasons people don’t like her, it was just curiosity, I don’t know these people or care enough to let it affect me emotionally but people get so defensive on the subject there must be a reason.

See I have never heard about any of this, my news sources only really cover the royals when someone has a baby or dies and the only person I know that cared to talk about the royals has passed. I have heard of bad things he’s done in the past which makes that check out, she was the main reason I liked them anyway.

Can you not see thats what I came here to do, find out some more information, and ask people that know far more than I do?

Would they allow nasty thread, after nasty thread, after nasty thread, about anyone else in the same way?

Perhaps you missed the threads last year about how Kate had disappeared because William had beaten her up / she was divorcing him / she was having plastic surgery etc etc

Those threads were horrific.

I initially scoffed at the rumours that her pregnancies were fake, so I looked into the evidence. I am a midwife and although not a betting person I would lay money Markle was not pregnant with A and L.
