The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

1000 replies

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

I'm so sorry @wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting 💐

Thanks @jeffgoldblum I scrolled away quickly when I realised what it was. I certainly wasn't expecting it! I'd have thought that there would be filters preventing stuff like that being posted? There are some sick people out there!

However, if you like easy-watching, fun caper Sci-fi with time travel, I do recommend Timeless. Abigail McFlowery is good in it, her character is the opposite of whatever those Meghan statement are about. And when the series was cancelled after two seasons they did the decent thing and wrapped all the story lines with the final episode which made a nice change from all those series where they just abandon you mid story arc.

I really enjoyed Timeless and the wrap up episodes were great.

The weird teenage stalker prose not so much....

Yes - it was great that the fans managed to campaign for that wrapup finale. I really hate it when the story is left hanging.

Good grief. As others have said, the hyperbole really does Meghan (nor her) any favours.

Even if Meghan wasn't a bully, a proven liar, an attention seeker who's alienated her whole family and that of her husband (etc etc) - she wouldn't be the "most glorious human being on the planet." I mean Jesus Christ, let's save that sort of praise for the people who devote their lives to selflessly caring for others, giving up their own wealth and opportunities to help others, trying to find cures for horrible diseases or putting themselves at great personal risk to speak up in the face of tyrannical regimes.

It's also completely invalidating the experiences of all those staff who Meghan bullied, and indeed the feelings of those in the RF who were accused of racism and other terrible behaviours towards M.

If she said something like 'Meghan may have made some mistakes in the past, but I can only speak from my experience and she's always been a very good friend to me. I know she's trying to turn over a new leaf with this show, and I really hope it's a success for her' - then it would be halfway credible and would do far more good for Meghan's reputation (amongst those who are on the fence about her at least)

It's also completely invalidating the experiences of all those staff who Meghan bullied, and indeed the feelings of those in the RF who were accused of racism and other terrible behaviours towards M.

I 100% agree - has anyone else ever bigged up other prolific abusers publically after dozens of people have separately and independently come forward?

I suspect Abigail will be a lone voice....

Serenster · 03/02/2025 19:30

I suspect Abigail will be a lone voice…

Well, unless Omid Scobie pops up. Finding Freedom was similarly over the top in its presentation of Meghan as practically perfect in every way.

It contained such gems as “Meghan’s willingness to help others and her drive to excel meant she often was deemed ‘fake’ by classmates at school who felt it was impossible for anyone to be that ‘perfect.

And she’s an amazing packer….”Extremely organized, Meghan immediately impressed Harry with her packing skills. She has always taken pride in being a great packer – going as far as layering dryer sheets in between her clothes to keep them smelling fresh and no matter her destination always bringing tea-tree oil for bites, cuts and pimples – and her skills were appreciated by the prince

And she was far too dedicated to enjoy a drink at college… “‘not [into] partying like most of her normal college kids. Her friends would never run into Meg, as they called her, at a bar in the middle of the week. Friday nights, when her sorority sisters were all going out to parties, Meg was headed to professors’ houses to babysit

“Heading to professors’ houses to babysit” somehow sounds far dodgier than going with here sorority sisters to parties 😆

Well she didn't name her blog after a professor, did she? The Tig, after her favourite wine!

I'm slightly interested in her 5 week stint in Buenos Aries ( c/o uncle ) but failed to pass the exams. which I think was portrayed as much better than it was .

If I am wrong - I am wrong and happy to be told so.

The implication being that MM was part of the Epstein wider circle?

The rumours began on social media. Traditional
Media organisations have dug around for years trying to find something salacious in Meghan’s past in an effort to fully discredit her. Documentaries have promised to uncover her past. But have failed. So the only place these rumours can persist as beliefs’ and ‘truths’ is on social media.

There is no Epstein connection. There is no yacht girl connection. Nothing that anyone can point the wagging finger at and tut tut, and therefore feel validated in their own misogyny.

Meanwhile a king’s brother is mentioned 90 odd times the court documents in the Maxwell case. But it’s Meghan the rumour mongers are going after, trying to tie her to Epstein. Encouraged by the traditional media in the form of The Daily Beast article (in this instance) republished in other read media outlets with certain quotes omitted and other quotes emphasised because they have messages they want to push, and scandal mongering nearly always brings a pay day.

Is it just the general human nastiness in service to the patriarchy driving this, or is someone or something that wants to distract driving this?

BasiliskStare · 03/02/2025 22:27

@Jacquette - forget Epstein - I don't think ( my opinion ) MM has anything to do with that. So if I comment - be in no doubt I don't believe she is involved with Epstein. Let's leave PA for other threads - Can we shake hands on that ?

MissRoseDurward · 03/02/2025 22:45

no matter her destination always bringing tea-tree oil for bites, cuts and pimples –

Of course no-one else in the world ever, and certainly not ordinary plebs like us, ever thought of taking a few basic remedies with us when we travel. Especially if we won't be anywhere near a Boots.

LaurenWasHere · 04/02/2025 09:00

Are you all paid for the character assassination?

I just want to put this out to you all: I have never met anyone in the real world who had anything but nice things to say about those two. I read a ton of hate online, much of which is part of a paid character assassination campaign put on by palace flunkies. You would think some of you would have put together BY NOW the fact that a lot of this is fed to the press by the royal family...a group of leeches who are desperately trying to preserve their income. Hav enone of you watched the news and learned how PR people plant stories and HIRE PEOPLE to post horrible things about people?

I honestly cannot believe some of the crazy things I am reading in this thread. Shame on all of you.

But my one comfort is the fact that miserable william and his cardboard wife will be the focus of your sycophantic adulation....and they will head your church (which is HILARIOUS to me, because his father, a spoiled, whiny little adulter) is in charge of it now. You will get what you deserve. Snotty elitist, racists people who think they are better than you. They literally think you are lesser beings. PRINCE ANDREW thinks he is better than you. Yet you are angry at the ones who got out and earn their living.

So keep focusing on how terrible Prince Harry and Meghan are. The people involved in th Invictous games, the Grenfell fires victims, the UN women's rights workers, and the California fires victims would all enjoy disagreeing with your acidic, horrible, and false allegations about these two.

What a bunch of terrible people in this thread!

Do you have evidence of this ? Links would be helpful. And I ‘m not talking about anything H and M said .

We obviously mix in very different circles as I have never encountered anyone nowadays with anything positive to say about H and M ( not that they enter my usual conversations!) . There was so much goodwill when they married but they threw it all away .

NormaMajors1992coat · 04/02/2025 09:20

You would think some of you would have put together BY NOW the fact that a lot of this is fed to the press by the royal family...

Have you seen - H+M made a 6 part documentary series all about themselves. Between them they have given several interviews, including quite a famous and lengthy televised one with Oprah Winfrey. Harry has written an autobiography. They issue press releases about anything and everything.

The RF has no need to feed anything to the press because H+M do most of it all by themselves. And then the rest comes from people in the US who have had the misfortune to work with them. With the occasional "fucking grifters" type moment of course.

But Ms Giuffre's lawyers were clear she had something to say about Andrew in relation to the Epstein case.

That she is named by them as someone they want to depose is not rumour, it is fact.

TheCrowPeople · 04/02/2025 09:26

Opinion polls show H&M to be unpopular these days. They consistently appear to be floating in the polls just above he-who-must-not-be-named.

That's not my fault and it's not MN's fault. It's all their own work, given their unpopularity started to kick in after H&M's own Oprah interview, documentary series, and Spare, followed by H's variously back-tracking, snappy and grandiose interviews with Bradby, Cooper and Sorkin. The Bench and Archetypes were not good. The US shift in opinion really went up a gear in 2024, with the ridicule starting in February (New York); and their goings-on in early 2025 in LA saw some angry responses that pretty much sealed the deal.

The royal family had fuck all to do with any of that.

All the 'global thought leaders' and 'changing the molecules in the air' nonsense of late is extremely unconvincing, although it's comical. So there's that.

jeffgoldblum · 04/02/2025 09:32

@LaurenWasHere absolutely any moral high ground you thought you had , was completely negated by your second paragraph!

To paraphrase.....
How dare you say horrible things about h and m !

Then you go on to say horrible things about Catherine and William!

TheCrowPeople · 04/02/2025 09:48

Harry also emailed People magazine himself to provide a story for them about his 40th birthday and his 'hope and dreams' blah blah for the next year. People magazine put that he'd sent the email himself in the story, then after a while took that fact out.

I think H&M do that kind of thing a fair bit. It might seem a bit desperate I suppose, to many people looking on.

MrsFinkelstein · 04/02/2025 09:54

I just love how The Times, The Hollywood Reporter and now Vanity Fair are just reduced to Palace flunkies.

Minimising and diminishing repeated, credible, on the record! bullying allegations, across 2 continents and different companies - but it's all the SS have.

That and the bullying, name calling and harassing another couple and their children.

Classy, very classy.

I’m not going to address this particular thing on further on here after this last post about it. I’ve provided several links in posts over the past couple of days. Read them or not. Up to you.

This is what the lawyer said about Meghan Markle.

“Speaking to the publication's royalist correspondent Tom Sykes, lawyer David Boies said Markle may have picked up "important knowledge" during her time as a working royal, that can be used in Roberts Giuffre's civil suit. “

That was the “important knowledge she may have, knowledge she may gave gained during her time as a working royal”. I can’t access the Daily Beast now - as I now need to subscribe to Bread, which I’m not going to do - but here’s another source.

You can choose to believe twatter bullshit or you can choose to believe what the lawyer actually said.

Guiffre lawyer

I think it’s disgusting how people are constantly digging for dirt on this woman.

I find it interesting that so many of these tabloid ‘news’ media - such Daily Mail and The Daily Beast- now need people to subscribe. They’ve been making a living off nasty journalism, but now readership numbers are falling - now they have to scratch for subscribers. Good.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre's lawyer says Meghan Markle could be called upon to testify in the Prince Andrew lawsuit as she may have 'important knowledge'

"She is somebody who we can count on to tell the truth," David Boies, the attorney representing Virginia Roberts Giuffre, told The Daily Beast.

You are right. She didn't correct it and as we now know it was false insinuation.

I think they give stories to the press too, and so do Charles, Camilla & William. Enough journalist have told us they do
