The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

1000 replies

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

This is funny. Oprah is ‘embarrasef’ and feels ‘like she’s been taken for a ride’ but is willing to be taken for another ride? I don’t think so. I think much more of Oprah than some of you do obviously.

I don't know if you're referring to my post, but if you are, I haven't said anything about Oprah being "embarrassed".
I'm sure she was extremely pleased to get that interview. However, I doubt she wants to dwell on it now in the light of some of the dubious allegations made in it. Doesn't mean it wasn't lucrative and provided a lot publicity for her at the time.
I'm sure she'd be happy to interview one or both of them in the future if there are any developments in their relationship or news. It would have to be big news, imo; I doubt she's interested in plugging WL,M for example.
I also think she might be a little less accepting of everything she's told if there's another interview.
But - as I said above - she's a bright business woman and I'm sure her 100 Favourite Things list was very carefully put together.

Who are 'they'?

Am I part of 'they' because I don't think Harry and Meghan are totally disgusting, yet I steer well clear of Sussex squad?

I saw those threads on Kate. I didn't post on them. I found them very wrong.

Why do posters on here keep going on about Sussex Squad when posters like me and many others don't subscribe to them. I find it odd. Almost like an easy insult

As I said previously a script is followed and Jacquette brining up Andrew is a perfect example. You can see it coming a mile of and Jacquette did not disappoint.

veraswaistcoat · 02/02/2025 10:16

@Ohpleeeease I won't bother to repeat the well used line about assuming !
You are wrong. I have done both.

Ridiculous. Anyone who mentions Andrew is part of Sussex Squad 😅
Just listen to yourself and stop trying to shut people down with that easy insult

Oprah is still friends with Meghan - at least enough to put something sent to her by Meghan on her Annual 100 favourite things list - a full three years after that interview. My guess is that the rumour of Oprah regretting that interview, and feeling like ‘she’d been taken for a ride’ and was ‘embarrassed’ is a made up twatter rumour. No special insight on my part. I’ve also seen it on twatter - I think it was on the monetised account named ‘Meghan’s Mole’. Anyway, whoever is running that account is making a motza, I suspect, promoting hate of Meghan.

Tatcha Hinoki Body Wash, Hinoki Body Milk, and Hinoki Body Oil
“This is a favorite Favorite Thing—with the scent of a forest sent to me by my neighbor Meghan. If you were to come into my house, you’d see this body wash, body oil, and body milk right by the tub.”

Are they still friends? Who knows? The post said from " my neighbor" . Both of them are playing the celeb game - one trying to sweeten the other and the other publicly lapping it up.

It’s not an easy insult if it’s true. And Andrew has nothing to do with this thread

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 02/02/2025 10:22

Oprah should be embarrassed about a lot of things. Promoting John Of God, for example. Scandal surrounding her school in Africa and her activities in Hawaii. And her close friendship with Harvey Weinstein, whom she's never condemned. She's as sketchy as fuck. There's not full version of the Oprah interview online or even clips from the source. There's going to be a reason for that, and it's not because HARPO is saving it to make money out of it themselves. Of course she will hang in there with Meghan, she knows that there's a juicy interview coming down the pike if things go completely tits up, and there will be a bidding war for that. She's keeping her foot in the door.

I don’t know Oprah, personally, but I can’t imagine she gives any thought at all to the impact of her interview with the Sussexes. Why would she? It was the television coup of the year, gained her huge global ratings, and made her lots of money. Win all around for Oprah. If, as I assume the relationship between her and the Sussexes is and has always been purely transactional, then if they have value to each other, they will use it.

Oprah gave the impression she was a friend of Harvey Weinstein - there are lots of pictures of them hugging at events. When he was exposed she said “Was I friendly with Harvey? Yes, I was friendly with Harvey…Yes, but of course I didn’t know any of this was going on”. I can’t imagine she’d have any qualms at all about any fallout for the Sussexes from her interview with them.

Rhaidimiddim · 02/02/2025 11:25

Jacquette · 02/02/2025 09:37

No I can’t imagine it.

But then I can’t imagine other RF members and their in-laws of being friends of pedophiles and/or friend of people traffickers, or Chinese Spies, or paying a huge settlement to a woman in order to protect their own son. Oh wait, I don’t have to imagine. I can read all about it.

Edited to add: awarding royal medals to each other.

So if Ms Guiffre told the truth about Andrew and is thetefore a credible source of info. What do you think she knew about Meghan Markle's links with Andrew and Epstein?

Rhaidimiddim · 02/02/2025 11:27

Because they all follow the same script.

Yes, although it could have been a lot of hot air from Guiffres lawyer to put further pressure on Andrew, this is what he said in December 2021 about deposing Meghan Markle. (Giuffre and Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement in February 2022.)

"Meghan Markle may be called to depose over legal action against Prince Andrew, said the lawyer of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has accused the prince of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.
Ms Markle could have some “important knowledge,” David Boies, the attorney representing Ms Giuffre, told The Daily Beast on Tuesday."

"He said Ms Markle was a “close companion to Prince Andrew and therefore probably saw what he did.”"

"Because of her past association with him, she may very well have important knowledge, and will certainly have some knowledge.”"

You do wonder if the Queen paid up as she didn't want Meghan (and Harry) also dragged into the whole lawsuit.

While horrific, all the Royals receive death threats, including the children. People have been jailed for threats against George too, for example.

I logged off mumsnet for the day, but I’m back because I remembered this post because I meant to respond to it but got distracted. It’s just a couple thoughts I’ve had, I’ve got more to say but no time now. It does not involve any criticism of other members of the RF.

  1. It is no less terrible that people threatened George’s life.

  2. Meghan was frightened. This was all new to her. And I think, from what she has said, and what others have said, she felt vulnerable even with the security services she had.

  3. I don’t understand why people would think all people should feel and react the same way about anything, let alone how they react to, and cope with, having their life threatened or that of their child. And at the time the late Queen and Meghan Markle were getting the most death threats. This was new to Meghan.

Wouldn't that be an irony, if A took one for the team to save M's blushes.
The Markles didn't sue Boies ( or even threaten to) did they?

It's interesting isn't it, the random name drop. Much like the name drop of Harry into the P Diddy case filings. I doubt there's anything of substance to either of these instances of their names being associated with high level SA cases, but I would be intrigued to know what the lawyers are getting out of dropping their names into the mix. It can't be just publicity, there's already plenty of that with all the other high profile names involved. It almost feels like a warning or a shot across the bows. But about what, I do not know.

Thedom · 02/02/2025 12:12

I think adding Meghan (and by association, Harry) into the mix could have been the straw that broke the camels back for the RF, it was all insinuation on VGs' lawyers part, but I imagine it was enough for the RF to proceed with settling on behalf of Andrew and to prevent it turning into an even worse circus than it already was, at that point Harry and Meghan were already estranged from the RF and the Oprah interview had aired several months earlier.

No idea what that means. Posters are quite at liberty to bring up different people - like you have - if they want

People bring up Andrew when they can’t defend their position. Andrew is a vile person but he wasn’t charged with a crime but he is brought up as a boo his character compared to Megan alleged heroine character. And I can repeat the script part as often as I like because it is true. Which page are you on now?

Extiainoiapeial · 02/02/2025 13:22

I'm afraid your posts make no sense to me. Sorry
I don't understand pages and scripts and all that
I have clearly explained my thoughts and position as far as the Sussex Squad in detail in a previous post to you.
If you choose to ignore that, that's your problem
No point in continuing this conversation AFAIC
