The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

1000 replies

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

Nah, they were pulled overnight when the POW revealed her cancer diagnosis. Once the POW was given the all clear they attempted a comeback but I think the comments section on the Netflix trailer and the Vanity Fair exposé has seen most of them off. Just you and Spectre working the shifts now.

”Pulled” by whom? What do you mean?

That is not an answer.

You stated that posters ‘were pulled.’ I asked by whom?

Can you answer the question of what you meant, or not?

100%, ohpleeeease, and it’s worth remembering that Oprah was hardly stretching with that inference: M had spoon fed it to her with her remark immediately preceding (paraphrasing here) “ so there were two conversations going on in tandem - one, concerns over the color of his skin, and two, that there’d be no titles for him”

Brilliant post (as always) @GiveMeSpanakopita . I'm a WOC, and I have never understood why anyone should feel anger or shame at being associated with a particular area known for having a large population from a particular community/culture. Especially when one's bestie, Serena, was from that area, and that area has produced, as you point out, many people who have shaped popular culture and made a huge impact on the world.

I wear it as a badge of honour that I came from a particular community, survived its downsides, was positively shaped by all its upsides, exceeded outsiders' (and insiders') expectations of me, and went on to have a better life than those critics.

And if Meghan doesn't think that's reflective of her childhood. Then laugh it off, ignore it. Don't Streisand Effect a single article. And don't play-act that you grew up poor and disadvantaged with your cheap salads, when you demonstrably didn't.

There's a reason why both Netflix and Oprah had to manufacture negative headlines/press scenes about H&M for their specials. Because they couldn't find real ones.

Too right Jammy! I am also proud that I as a working class immigrant from a single parent family, survived DV and addiction and eventually went on to set up and now run a small but profitable business in an industry which is sadly now dominated by the privileged (very few working class folks in PR and media, which explains the bias in mainstream media but that's another post for another time. Some of the privileged wankery I've had to deal with over the decades would turn your hair white lol). Well, I'm religious so I don't say I'm proud I say God has blessed me. But either way, I am not ashamed of my background, quite the opposite. And tbh if I had grown up in or near Compton? I'd use my platform to magnify the brilliant music and creative art that's still coming out of that city! Meghan could have used her platform and that headline to draw attention to artists and activists such as Slim400, Buddy and Westside Boogie. Really odd that she didn't, given her self-declared devotion to uplifting the less privileged.

@MaturingCheeseball Meghan was definitely behind the release. William, Charles and the Queen said no but he went ahead and did it anyway, because he was panicking that she would leave him if he didn't. I have heard the rumour about the Inskip wedding, also the other rumour I hear a lot is that she was or believed she was pregnant at this time, hence the wedding was brought forward (it happened very quickly after the engagement). TBH I don't believe or disbelieve these rumours because I haven't heard them substantiated in the same way as I have heard other things, such as Meghan bullying staff (this definitely happened imho) and throwing unseemly tantrums.

The other thing I've heard which I said on here before, and absolutely believe, is that Oprah very quickly regretted the interview, because so many things H&M claimed were subsequently proven to be untrue. She felt she'd been taken for a ride, and was embarrassed. This is why it's quite difficult to find the full interview online in true, non-pirated versions, and why Oprah has never allowed any re-runs.

@BasiliskStare I love the Gadarene reference, not least for its hint at possession...I don't know what possessed H&M to do the Oprah interview, but either way it was a terrible mistake.

They have no self awareness. She is a D list actress. He is a man who would be nobody if he wasn't a prince. Instead of acknowledging this they think they have achieved worldwide fame because of their talents. They haven't.

Meghan was getting death threats from racist white supremacists (some now incarcerated for it). White powder that looked like a deadly toxin was sent to her palace office. Some Newspapers and media were dog whistling away merrily. She was frightened for the lives of herself, her child and Harry - she told us and so did Neil Basu Assistant Commission Metropolitan Police. He also said he understood her terror.

While horrific, all the Royals receive death threats, including the children. People have been jailed for threats against George too, for example.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 02/02/2025 08:47

There's not a prominent woman in public life who hasn't received death and rape threats. There's not a prominent woman of colour in public life who hasn't received race based death and rape threats. Most of those women don't have a royal protection squad and the higher echelons of the metropolitan police looking out for them.

If Meghan ever has people setting their dogs on her, gets the NF banging on the door once a week so she has to turn the lights off and hide in her own home or gets racially abused to her face by the very people who are supposed to be protecting her (teachers, police, parents), then she can give me a call, and I'll give her a few pointers on resilience.

MaturingCheeseball · 02/02/2025 09:05

I’d forgotten about that Ripple of Hope award. How embarrassing. All that receiving awards nonsense. Royals bestow awards, not hunt them out. Royals do not walk the red carpet and grin at the camera. Can you just imagine QEII doing that?!!

Or the late Queen Elizabeth appearing on Oprah or being interviewed like Andrew was. Or writing an autobiography like spare or moaning about her sister. So it wasn't just Meghan.

veraswaistcoat · 02/02/2025 01:01

@Ohpleeeease you have a very different interpretation of what someone was SAYING .

She was fed that supposition by Oprah and M suggested that might be the case DESPITE HER NOT HAVING THE CHANCE TO FOLLOW IT UP. In other words she didn't know.

I can only assume you haven’t seen the full interview, or read the full transcript, as I have. This is just one quote, there is further context. I assure you I have not misinterpreted.

Oprah is still friends with Meghan - at least enough to put something sent to her by Meghan on her Annual 100 favourite things list - a full three years after that interview. My guess is that the rumour of Oprah regretting that interview, and feeling like ‘she’d been taken for a ride’ and was ‘embarrassed’ is a made up twatter rumour. No special insight on my part. I’ve also seen it on twatter - I think it was on the monetised account named ‘Meghan’s Mole’. Anyway, whoever is running that account is making a motza, I suspect, promoting hate of Meghan.

Tatcha Hinoki Body Wash, Hinoki Body Milk, and Hinoki Body Oil
“This is a favorite Favorite Thing—with the scent of a forest sent to me by my neighbor Meghan. If you were to come into my house, you’d see this body wash, body oil, and body milk right by the tub.”

Promoting hate of Megan? Oh do get a grip. Remember the squads reaction to Catherine when she was recovering from her operation? And their vile reaction when anyone dares to criticise their idol

Edited

No I can’t imagine it.

But then I can’t imagine other RF members and their in-laws of being friends of pedophiles and/or friend of people traffickers, or Chinese Spies, or paying a huge settlement to a woman in order to protect their own son. Oh wait, I don’t have to imagine. I can read all about it.

Edited to add: awarding royal medals to each other.

Not everyone is part of the Squad you know.

Some of us think they are total loons.

Why do you think we are all the same?

Exactly.

LaMarschallin · 02/02/2025 09:44

Oprah's not stupid, she's a very bright business women. Of course she's not going to cut Meghan off, there may yet be more juicy revelations to be given to some lucky interviewer.
Mentioning some toiletries is an easy thing to do and an easy way to keep a link.
No jam for her then?

Jacquette · 02/02/2025 09:47

This is funny. Oprah is ‘embarrasef’ and feels ‘like she’s been taken for a ride’ but is willing to be taken for another ride? I don’t think so. I think much more of Oprah than some of you do obviously.

Who are 'they'?

Am I part of 'they' because I don't think Harry and Meghan are totally disgusting, yet I steer well clear of Sussex squad?

I saw those threads on Kate. I didn't post on them. I found them very wrong.

Why do posters on here keep going on about Sussex Squad when posters like me and many others don't subscribe to them. I find it odd. Almost like an easy insult

MaturingCheeseball · 02/02/2025 10:13

What became of the higher than nickname of church organisation famous for its brass bands poster?

They’d post reams and reams of Sussex PR and cheerleading messages about such things as a top Meghan was wearing selling out.
