The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

Interesting that since @Rhaidimiddim's question about Meghan's links with Andrew, one has logged off for the day (except when they log back in of course) and the other is busy debating who brought up other people and when 🤔

I'm afraid your posts make no sense to me. Sorry
I don't understand pages and scripts and all that
I have clearly explained my thoughts and position as far as the Sussex Squad in detail in a previous post to you.
If you choose to ignore that, that's your problem
No point in continuing this conversation AFAIC

I have no idea what the acronym means

While horrific, all the Royals receive death threats, including the children. People have been jailed for threats against George too, for example.

The Queen would receive an average of eight human poos in the post per year, apparently. Well, she never had to shift through her own mail but you know what I mean.

I actually think that number's quite low, given the known propensity of certain mental illnesses to make their sufferers conceive an intense obsession with the famous and the Royal. I'd imagine the Prime Minister (whoever that is at any given time) gets a lot more.

Oprah's not stupid, she's a very bright business women. Of course she's not going to cut Meghan off, there may yet be more juicy revelations to be given to some lucky interviewer.
Mentioning some toiletries is an easy thing to do and an easy way to keep a link.
No jam for her then?

Oprah's annual favourite things list is done by her company, not her; same with Oprah's Book Club. PRs pay to get their client's products featured on the list - Oprah gets to sign it off, of course.

Ah.
Yes, I should have guessed it was more corporate.

@Ohpleeeease I won't bother to repeat the well used line about assuming !
You are wrong. I have done both.

In which case, either wilfully or not, you haven’t understood what Meghan was saying. If she didn’t know, then she had the opportunity to say exactly that. She led the viewer, and OW, to a particular conclusion and didn’t correct it.

And shouting at me with capitalisation is not appreciated so please don’t.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 02/02/2025 10:22

Oprah should be embarrassed about a lot of things. Promoting John Of God, for example. Scandal surrounding her school in Africa and her activities in Hawaii. And her close friendship with Harvey Weinstein, whom she's never condemned. She's as sketchy as fuck. There's not full version of the Oprah interview online or even clips from the source. There's going to be a reason for that, and it's not because HARPO is saving it to make money out of it themselves. Of course she will hang in there with Meghan, she knows that there's a juicy interview coming down the pike if things go completely tits up, and there will be a bidding war for that. She's keeping her foot in the door.

Edited

I agree, it's been apparent for years that Oprah is a very shady charecter indeed. Morally dubious to say the very least.

A wise woman once said "The silent part is also part of the song".

veraswaistcoat · 02/02/2025 15:04

@Ohpleeeease don't start with the " shouting at me " business - it is nothing of the sort. It is emphasising what she SAID. Also do not tell me that I don't understand something just because you have a different interpretation of what was said. That is incredibly rude and just used as a put down - in your eyes 🥱

You are right. She didn't correct it and as we now know it was false insinuation.

What became of the higher than nickname of church organisation famous for its brass bands poster?

They’d post reams and reams of Sussex PR and cheerleading messages about such things as a top Meghan was wearing selling out.

Dunno, not seen her post for a while now.

@MaturingCheeseball @MrsFinkelstein there was a bit of half hearted flexing on the NGN thread after the settlement and on the dead dog thread.

One thing I do think H&M forgot is that they can keep the titles etc , but I think Prince Philip said after a tour with the late Queen , it's important to remember these people aren't here for us (as two individuals - my insert ) they are here for what we represent .( I realise the late DoE said much which does not bear repeating ) I paraphrase wildly here.

I think H & M didn't realise that the titles don't confer automatic deference / plaudits . The Queen had a job and she did it ( I do understand many people don't agree with that job - but she did it ) Having stepped away from the RF H&M I think overestimated the titles when they weren't doing anything for the RF & also overestimated their personal popularity and talent. Yes they had a honeymoon period in which IMHO they made many misjudgments

It will interesting to see how things go - but just at the moment all I can see in the British Press is reporting on American press 2nd hand or public events.

Yes, although it could have been a lot of hot air from Guiffres lawyer to put further pressure on Andrew, this is what he said in December 2021 about deposing Meghan Markle. (Giuffre and Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement in February 2022.)

"Meghan Markle may be called to depose over legal action against Prince Andrew, said the lawyer of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has accused the prince of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.
Ms Markle could have some “important knowledge,” David Boies, the attorney representing Ms Giuffre, told The Daily Beast on Tuesday."

"He said Ms Markle was a “close companion to Prince Andrew and therefore probably saw what he did.”"

"Because of her past association with him, she may very well have important knowledge, and will certainly have some knowledge.”"

You do wonder if the Queen paid up as she didn't want Meghan (and Harry) also dragged into the whole lawsuit.

Yes, the lawyer also said he could seek thevsystement of Andrew's ex- wife, or Andrew’s brother (I assume he meant Charles), could have been a witness too; like Meghan. So perhaps the Queen paid up for all of them?

I’ve noticed in regard to this story that it is copied and posted quite frequently on here, but the bit about Sarah and Charles as potential witnesses is always left off.

Meghan Markle may be called to depose over legal action against Prince Andrew, said the lawyer of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has accused the prince of sexually assaulting her when she was 17.
^^
Ms Markle could have some “important knowledge,” David Boies, the attorney representing Ms Giuffre, told The Daily Beast on Tuesday.
^^
Mr Boies said he might seek to depose Ms Markle as part of the civil suit slapped against the prince by Ms Giuffre and said he believed Ms Markle could be expected to “tell the truth.”
^^
“She is somebody we can count on to tell the truth,” Mr Boies said. He also believed that she might have picked up some “important knowledge” about the royal’s behaviour.
He said Ms Markle was a “close companion to Prince Andrew and therefore probably saw what he did.”
^^
He also cited three reasons for Ms Markle to be a potential deposition subject.
^^
“One; she is in the US so we have jurisdiction over her. Two; she is somebody who obviously, at least for a period of time, was a close associate of Prince Andrew and hence is in a position to perhaps have seen what he did, and perhaps if not to have seen what he did to have heard people talk about it. Because of her past association with him, she may very well have important knowledge, and will certainly have some knowledge.
^^
“Three; she is somebody who we can count on, to tell the truth. She checks all three boxes,” the lawyer added.
^^
^^
^^
^^
“Ms Giuffre is suing the prince over claims she was forced to have sex with him when she was 17 years old. The prince, however, has denied all allegations.
^^
Mr Boies confirmed “we would likely take one or two depositions of people close to Andrew who would have knowledge of his actions. That might include his ex-wife. It could possibly be his brother.”
^^
However, the star attorney said no firm decision has been taken regarding Ms Markle’s deposition yet.”

What is happening here imo is you are trying to stifle opinions you don’t like by casting suspicion on posters that don’t post negatively about Meghan.

Mr Boies might like a chat with Lord Justice Warby about that, I’m sure he would put him straight.

Of course you deal in rumours and here you are following the same script of let’s talk about Andrew when he is nothing to do with this thread

Andrew is back the news. Or haven’t you noticed? All over the papers for the ‘Chinese spy’ stuff, questionable business dealings, and the Epstein/Maxwell stuff is being brought up again because one of trump’s picks for his administration has said he is looking into it and will uncover the truth (I doubt that he will uncover the truth but one can always hope).

As to rumours I look to published material, not Twitter rumour crap. So no I don’t deal in rumours.
