The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

@Spectre8

Well you clearly haven't eaten there. 🙄 In and Out burger uses 100% meat no additives or preservatives, not from frozen etc. When I first went to the US my American friends took me there they always rave about it and it was actually really good and much healthier than many other fast food places.

🤣🤣🤣 as an American I wouldn't feed in & out burgers to the wild foxes that harass my ducks

You need better friends

You might not but you can't make claims that it's ultra processed food when the meat is fresh and doesn't contain additives or other weed stuff in it, same with the chips. Which was my point to thay poster who claims it is.

Thedom, I watch the games, you are obviously watching Meghan. Each to their own, as they say.

Jacquette · 30/01/2025 07:51

I feel like eating a hamburger and chips.

So silly! It’s local American beef so it will have been raised with antibiotics and growth hormones mixed into its feed. The sauce they use on the burgers has corn syrup and food colouring in it, the burger buns will almost certainly have preservatives in them. So therefore it is ultra-processed.

And the company utterly refuses to publish a list of ingredients for its food, which should tell you sometime about the difference between their PR claims and the reality.

smilesy · 30/01/2025 08:24

I’m more interested in the economic and racial inequalities in Montecito highlighted in the article than the ins and outs of In-and-Out burgers quite frankly

Ohpleeeease · 30/01/2025 08:29

I read the IGF’s TAR and accounts recently and I concur with @Jacquette , some excellent work is being done, it’s a charity with huge reach and impact.

I don’t agree with her that Meghan shouldn’t be called out or criticised by another woman. She was happy enough to attack Catherine publicly.

So silly? Well they were pretty public in saying they aren't going to be using beef that includes antibiotics many years ago. Sauces are option and you don't have to eat the bun if you don't want to.

End of the day if you are eating out there will be some element that has preservatives in it but to say it's all ultra processed isn't correct.

There are microplastics in virtually every food including vegetables that we all consume so i dont think anyone should be criticising someone going somewhere to eat food that contains some ultra processed elements. As though somehow your above all of that..ooo look at me i dont eat ultra procssed food but ill be eating food containing plastic 😅

Atlasvue · 30/01/2025 08:53

Was? So she no longer is then...? In fact when was the last time she did seems to have been quite some time now.

But what do you think about the article highlighting economic and racial inequality in Montecito?

Its behind a pay wall i haven't read it so I can't comment on it.

There are economic and rail inequalities in lots of places. Feel free to start a thread about that topic.

NormaMajors1992coat · 30/01/2025 09:04

Love that, arguing that ACTUALLY a burger isn't UPF because you don't have to have the bun or the sauce. Just a dry meat patty?!

By that reasoning no dish is ever UPF - BK whopper, UPF? You don't have to eat the meat or bun or sauce, just have the slice of tomato if you're going to be precious about it 🤦‍♀️🤪

NormaMajors1992coat · 30/01/2025 09:05

You agree she did attach Catherine then @Spectre8?

When was the last time that you remember?

Well, who could have predicted that! The poster who is ,after all, NOT a H & M fan, as she keeps telling us.

If you look at the top of the post that includes the article, it has helpfully been put in to archive. That is how I was able to read it. You can too

eta I appreciate there are economic and (I presume you mean) race differences in other places, but the point is that this is about the place where the Sussexes have chosen to live. I think that is more important than Burgergate 🤷‍♀️

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 30/01/2025 09:16

@NormaMajors1992coat The last time I can remember was Spring 2024 through one of her mouthpiece tabloids after the mother's day photo criticism of Catherine, talking about Meghan's "freakish attention to detail" and how she wouldn't have made such a mistake.

Before that, it was in late November 2023, via the mouthpiece that is Omid Scobie in Endgame, containing his snidey chapters on Catherine, various other inside knowledge that could only have come from the Sussexes, and his little accident with the Dutch translation calling her a racist.

Maybe not straight from the horse's mouth, but horses for sources and all that.

Ah the pesky time limit on actions again !

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 09:25

This burger nonsense is the biggest derail I've seen lately but ... macdonalds also claim and have produced evidence of sorts that their burger pattys are made with 100% beef with no additional nasties !
Are we saying macdonalds is healthy?

sleetysnowflakes · 30/01/2025 09:28

That article is really interesting, I got that sort of “rich bit contrived” vibe on a trip to Capri. Obviously there were normal people who lived and worked there (and normo tourists like us wandering about) but the it’s like a wealth theme park for those who can afford it.

What's the limitation period again? Just thinking that the purely hearsay evidence of "conversations" (according to MM) or conversation (singular, according to PH) was told to the world in March 2021. The incident (if it happened) itself happened some time before their engagement in November 2017. That's a gap of 3.5ish years. It's not quite 4 years since we were blessed with the Oprah interview. I reckon if MM was within limitation with her hearsay account, so are we with our direct evidence of what we saw and heard on Oprah. 😉

Well if you are wanting to avoid upfront then yeah. You wouldn't be buying bread from a supermarket either. You'd be baking your own buying organic flour etc. If your going to have a fig st someone going somewhere to eat ultra procsse food better because sure your not a hypocrite and eating it too.

Some burger places actually sell naked burgers as they call them, e.g. no bun. To cater for people who can't eat bread if they have a food intolerance. Would you laugh at them for just having a burger without a bun? No I don't think you would.

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 09:52

Ahh @FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger , I'm afraid that's too logical!
The time limit is a shifting scale , that fluctuates depending on how damning the evidence is!

I didn't say its healthy but it's not all ultra procssed food though is it. Is lettuce and tomato ultra procssed? If their meat isn't ultra processed either the yeah it's healthy than meat that is.

I'm not though. I've already said why I post here if you want to keep ignoring that reason fine.
