The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

veraswaistcoat · 23/01/2025 10:54

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

Don’t be silly. He eats pizza 🤪

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:01

This really has nothing to do with this thread at all !
Obviously burgers are processed, how do you think burgers are made for mass consumption?
Do you think they have people hand making them ?
They are processed, chopped up , ingredients ( spices , flavourings, etc ) added then shaped and compressed by machines !
The buns are mass produced by machines and preservatives added to extend shelf life .
And yes lettuce is healthy ( however this has been a sore subject at present, as chlorine is used to wash many bagged salads )

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:04

Honestly I could claim gin and tonic is healthy if I include the slice of lemon 🍋 as a major ingredient and expand on the benefits of quinine.

@NormaMajors1992coat The last time I can remember was Spring 2024 through one of her mouthpiece tabloids after the mother's day photo criticism of Catherine, talking about Meghan's "freakish attention to detail" and how she wouldn't have made such a mistake.

Before that, it was in late November 2023, via the mouthpiece that is Omid Scobie in Endgame, containing his snidey chapters on Catherine, various other inside knowledge that could only have come from the Sussexes, and his little accident with the Dutch translation calling her a racist.

Maybe not straight from the horse's mouth, but horses for sources and all that.

Edited

Regular puff pieces in Newsweek and the DE (and who knows where else) rehashing old stories to get a dig in at Catherine. (The last one in Newsweek was 23 Jan 2025.)

I wasn't the one criticising someone for eating ultra procssed food now when food isn't completely ultra processed 💁‍♀️

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:08

No you are using it as a reason to disagree with that poster and derail this thread .
I'm not continuing this topic now , if you wish to discuss food it's best taken to a more appropriate forum.

I'm sure that poster also finds him driving to eat that a good reason to criticise him for. 😆

Well yeah poster says how dare they go grt and in out and burger and drive there to eat ultra processed food so this is about the sussexs doing something which is on topic since this thread is about them. I disagree that the food is ultra processed as some of it isn't...? It's not derailing otherwise go ahead and report me then if I'm breaking any rules

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:10

I thought that Andrew being criticised was a good thing?

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:12

Nah , that's not what she said at all , and I'm not going to engage with you any further.

Mylovelygreendress · 30/01/2025 10:16

Me too . I’m confused .

Thank you for the article @Atlasvue . I can now see why they drive an hour to the "In 'N' Out" burger place, to eat something deliciously highly processed that hasn't had the joy sucked out of it. As a devoted Londoner, Montecito sounds like an utter nightmare.

@jeffgoldblum , I hope you don't mind, as you have kindly asked for an end to the derailing, but I am just going to re-post my post. No criticism from me at all. I said I can see why they go there. Context: versus staying to eat what's on offer in Montecito, which sounds joyless. But then, you'd have to have bothered to read the article to understand the remark.

Spectre8 · 30/01/2025 10:08

Did you read that post correctly? It was talking about Andrew. Not Harry

edited to correct accuracy

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 30/01/2025 10:24

And the descent of this thread this morning, the inability to understand context on (what was basically) a jokey remark, the combative stance on something so trivial (in apparent defence of people they claim not to support), and the unwillingness to let it go whilst making the thread all about their self, is why I am no longer engaging with that poster.

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:28

No worries @FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger , just fed up of discussing the health merits of burgers! 🍔 🤣

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:30

I'm also embarrassed to say I've forgotten what we were all discussing before ' the burger defence' cut in .

Baital · 30/01/2025 10:39

Wasn't it that a G&T is medicinal? 😂

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:44

Yes @Baital , it cures ( apparently) malaria !

I think there is a massive difference between people giving others reasons for debate and posters choosing to pick over and endlessly post about and criticise a couple with a young family, often fuelled by nasty stories in the press.

At this point, they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Threads like this are part of the problem and if you don’t recognise on-line bullying then it’s right here, right now, on this board.

I mean, what have they personally done to any of us?

I’m’a great fan of Mumsnet but given that this site is meant to be supportive of parents, I’m surprised that so many of these threads, which are just gratuitous excuses to be nasty about H&M, are allowed to stand.

Mumsnet guidelines say no personal attacks so I think they need to look at this issue as it’s getting out of hand.

Would they allow nasty thread, after nasty thread, after nasty thread, about anyone else in the same way? Or has kicking H and M become an acceptable national sport?

Why doesn’t everyone focus on the fact that the RF who are meant to be serving the people, are profiting from substantial commercial enterprises and yet receive special tax exemptions, all while pretending to be powerless and symbolic! That imho is an issue that is actually worthy of debate.

Rubbish. They’ve bought it all in themselves. They opened Pandora’s box and now don’t like what’s inside

NormaMajors1992coat · 30/01/2025 10:51

If your going to have a fig st someone going somewhere to eat ultra procsse food better because sure your not a hypocrite and eating it too.

I'm not having a fig / dig (?) at someone eating UPF, I'm laughing at your suggestion that this restaurant is a healthy place to eat because you can always have a burger and just leave the bun and the sauce, it's ridiculous. If it was a healthy place you wouldn't have to pick and choose which ingredients were actually good for you and leave the rest of the dish.

NormaMajors1992coat · 30/01/2025 10:52

Some burger places actually sell naked burgers as they call them, e.g. no bun. To cater for people who can't eat bread if they have a food intolerance. Would you laugh at them for just having a burger without a bun? No I don't think you would.

No, I wouldn't laugh at people who don't eat bread, I am one. As I said I'm laughing at your suggestion that it's a healthy restaurant because you can always just have a bit of dry meat.

NormaMajors1992coat · 30/01/2025 10:54

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:04

You can always leave out the gin and the tonic and just have the lemon, that seems to be the argument for g+t being a non UPF comestible.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 30/01/2025 10:56

I'm looking forward to finding out how donuts stop being UPFs when they have lavender petals sprinkled on them. Do you just eat the lavender?

jeffgoldblum · 30/01/2025 10:56

🤣
