Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

I have no idea @Onlyonekenobe 🤷‍♀️ , I'm ushaly bemused at how neither can see the consequences or optics of their behaviour!
I mean I used to think ... no they wouldn't do that surely, then they do !

"A well placed source" could easily be the Express taking a punt on Meghan being at Invictus and building a non-story around it, but I agree it'll be interesting to see how she conducts herself this time after the flaming she's had for previous efforts

Every time I say let's hope they can make it all about the vets, and every time they manage to hijack it for personal gain, but maybe - just maybe - the recent terrible press will give them pause?

I would hope so @Puzzledandpissedoff but somehow I think we may be optimistic!

Because they don’t stick at anything long enough to actually find out if it is working or not is what I mean. What initiative or idea have they tried for more than five minutes? 40 x40, podcasting, children’s books, ARO. Loads of fanfare and then nada. So now we have flip flopping between a couple / solo appearances / a family. And why does it have to be one thing or another? Other members of the RF mix it up and sometimes appear together / on their own / en famille. Why have they let it be known that they are now doing things as a family. Doesn’t seem particularly organic, more staged 🤷‍♀️

Just read that Meghan’s podcasts are being postponed .

I think it's desperation to get a message out: she knew she'd have the press at that place reporting on her speech. Free publicity given someone else paid for flights, accommodation, clothes, cameras, reportage, publication. Not to be wasted! So, she used it to shoehorn in whatever message she wanted to convey (and whatever it was, it was lost on me. Maybe trying to convey she's a hands-on mom? Couldn't say.). It wasn't the first or last time. These starlets know they get one opportunity, 15 seconds long on the red carpet to get their face and words into the news for the next 3 hours or whenever the sidebar of shame moves on, so they prep for hours to make sure their words and appearance are just as they want them to get their message out there in those brief 15 seconds (miserable or what, can you imagine the hours of make up and hair and travel and clothes and practising your post and facial features etc!). With Meghan Markle, you also wonder whether it was reverse engineered: she knew she'd be at Invictus and would be getting free publicity, what better way to convey her message than by being papped at a drive-thru the day before doing something emblematic of that message that she could follow-up on at Invictus. How clear and in focus was that shot from the drive-thru kitchen round the back of the worker at the window, with Meghan's face head on and without obstruction, smiling in a way that no human ever smiles at a drive-thro worker who isn't even looking at them etc. Anyway, whether she did or didn't, the whole thing backfired because here we and others are STILL remembering how awful it was. Not how great she is!

They were doing joint appearances for a few yrs before doing solo once which is only recently. Of which there have been plenty of criticism of them always being together at events and why is meghan there or why is Harry there but mostly why is megamhan there. Then they started doing solo events and low and behind that's not good enough here and plenty of comments speculating they were splitting up just because they weren't at events together. Now they are back to doing events together....and here comes the critics yet again. 🙄

How about couple didnsome events together and some solo events together and doing more events together and it's no different to the royals mixing it up as you say. And they haven't said it themselves it some unamed source of course how do we know how reliable that source is.

Very thoughtful and full post , I agree, it's all just a shame that neither can get anything right!

I believe they are, jeffgoldblum, but then the original excuse of delaying the podcasts so as not to clash with the ARO launch always sounded questionable - especially when ARO turned into nothing like everything else

It also seems that, relatively speaking, Lemonada have very little money, so it beats me why Meghan would be attracted to working with them in the first place (unless everyone else had said no and they were all that's left)

The milkshake thing was ridiculous. For a start, MM has confirmed that the nearest In 'N' Out is an hour's drive away from their home (she said it in something recently when talking about how much Harry likes the burgers). She didn't actually have her children with her when she bought them. Miraculously, there was a pap there on this random trip to catch her staring right at him, and miraculously the staff knew just how to stand out of the way of the shot! So a two hour round trip drive to arrive home to the kiddies with some fast food milkshakes, when you could probably buy better and more sustainably locally, or make yourself if you are such the domestic goddess/uber mum that Netflix gives you your own cooking show. What an environmentalist!

WRT the premature ARO launch, I am sure I have read that the DM's Richard Eden had got whiff of the name and was asking questions about it, and she launched it so that he didn't get in first. I doubt very much it was a planned roll out, especially since she upstaged her own husband's Diana Awards appearance.

It did, @jeffgoldblum, but that was with Spotify who famously ended their arrangement

So presumably that left her scratching around for someone else to back the podcasts, and as suggested we don't know if anyone else was interested or whether they'd all backed off by then - after all, Spotify calling them "f**king grifters" was hardly a recommendation

Could it be the persistent and consistent testimonies, from dozens of staff (past and present), of bullying by Meghan Markle, over many years, on both sides of the Atlantic, reported via numerous separate and independent investigations - The Times, The Hollywood Reporter and Vanity Fair?

I thought the solo stuff was working a bit better especially Meghan. The red carpet stuff and product launches felt a bit more of what she really wants to be doing. Harry always looks like a prat if I'm honest.

I think this is Daily Express speculation based off news that they are working with Ashley Hanson again. One of few Sussex employees who has gone back, only she is now in a consultant role.

You'd have thought so yes, @jeffgoldblum; in fact I thought that was the stated purpose - to "make available" that which was already in the can, only more widely

But nearly all of H&M's initiatives have stated purposes, and with the possible exception of Invictus none of the seem to have produced anything of note and certainly not anything that lasts

So a case of deliberately inflating and misleading or information then!
