The royal family

Is there another couple in the world like The Sussexes?

I was musing last night about this aspect - they had the world at their feet. Despite what Sussex Supporters like to suggest most people in the UK nodded their heads " yes it was lovely Harry was getting married finally" . I had never heard of the bride myself as I don't watch American tv shows of that ilk. She was black or biracial? It didn't even enter my head what colour she was initially and then as coverage started it didn't make one iota of difference one way or the other. I recall the day of the wedding - it was sunny and the pubs were full of royal cheer broadcasting the wedding.

And then it all started to where we are today.

Are there any other couples in the world who have gone through such a downfall? Is this a feature of the social media arena today?
We see P Diddy and Blake Lively and others exposed now through SM.
You can't count the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in this category as they were always unpopular.

Can you think of any examples of people who have fallen so spectacularly?

I know people say " they live in California, they have money blah blah" but their reputation is one that most people would not want.

Is it purely because of their seeming complaining and sense of entitlement ? I mean you don't see the real philanthropists in this way - in fact you rarely hear about them and what they do.

Well you would give it more than 5 minutes surely?

Why 5 mins? Do you have some sort of inside knowledge?

jeffgoldblum · 28/01/2025 19:57

It's a quote from Meghan ( pinched from someone else naturally)
She said " don't give it 5 minutes, unless you can give it 5 years "

That's ironic!

Not at all, it's just a phrase I use where someone has no patience/doesn't stick at something.

What a coincidence though! I didn't know that Meghan had said that when I posted!😃

I'm looking forward to seeing Meghan elbow her way between Harry and Katy Perry on the stage.

BemusedAmerican · 28/01/2025 21:04

The problem is that they are all press release and no content.

Didn’t Katy Perry criticise Meghan’s wedding dress ?

LaMarschallin · 28/01/2025 21:18

Didn’t Katy Perry criticise Meghan’s wedding dress ?

This, apparently:

Perry told Entertainment Tonight that the Duchess of Sussex's Givenchy gown needed "one more fitting".
The pop star suggested it fell short of the bridal look Alexander McQueen designed for the Duchess of Cambridge's marriage to Prince William in 2011, adding: "Kate won!".

Ouch!

The 'American Idol' judge also praised the new Duchess of Essex.

Oh how funny!
I thought I'd just C&Ped a couple of paragraphs from the BBC site; hadn't realised there was a whole article attached.
Didn't she fancy her chances on Made in Chelsea?
TOWIE'd be a bit of a comedown.

But they tried the solo thing because they thought the joint thing wasn't working!

I was just going to say this - people don't like us - it must be because we're together too much - people still don't like us - it must be because we're apart too much. I mean, at what point do they think - ok, it's not the together/apart thing, what else could be the reason?..

Using the children to renew their brand and showcase them as a family is repulsive and completely against what they said they wanted for them. They have done some shitty things, but if they really are prepared to chuck the children's privacy under the bus for the sake of PR, that would be something else.

NormaMajors1992coat · 29/01/2025 09:17

If something isn't working then of course you change and try something else. Be silly to stick to something that isn't working. Who in real life sits there and goes well this isn't working but let's just stick with it anyway.

Not many people think, well this isn't working so let's go back to our previous strategy that also didn't work 🤦‍♀️

I totally agree. Don’t the children have school anyway? Are they just going to drag the children around to make them look good? Why would the children need to attend Invictus? They need to stop behaving like the working members of the RF and get a life. Literally.

Are they ‘using the children to renew their brand’? (Did I miss something?) I think that is unlikely.

There is a rumour that they are taking the DC to the Invictus Games .
I think it’s unlikely but 🤷‍♀️

Spectre8 · 29/01/2025 10:33

Well they are a family aren't they? Those are their children not some child actors to showcase them as a family.

Mum and dad take kids to an event...family day out for many people not to showcase themselves as a family.

I mean how many comments recently have we had whinging about how they never take their kids anywhere or are seen anywhere. Now there is a rumour ...yes not a fact..a rumour the kids are going to taken to invictus and now the commentary is why are they chucking their kids privacy under a bus. 🤣

Why not wait for it to actually happen before criticising them, is that what many of you say we are criticising them on their actions...well there has been no action yet

Mylovelygreendress · 29/01/2025 10:39

@Spectre8 . The problem many people have is that H and M have ( rightly) said they want to protect their DC then they trot them out on Netflix presumably for $$$.
Harry said he was worried about the Wales DC so it would appear hypocritical if they then trot out their DC when - let’s face it- their reputation is at rock bottom .

JSMill · 29/01/2025 10:43

To be fair, they are always being criticised for 'hiding' their dcs. It's probably the only thing I admire them for. They will probably do better as adults if they don't grow up in the spotlight.

Ohpleeeease · 29/01/2025 10:57

This isn’t a family day out, it’s a work engagement. In all my years I never took my children on a work engagement, it would be a bizarre thing to do.

Well they have been protecting their children more so than if they were still working royals and pictured at all the public family events and walks every year. Their children have more privacy by simply not being involved in those things.

There can never be 100% total privacy and they have decided what that means to them not yours or anyone else's definition of what it should be.

We all see the press narrative already about Louis being the naughty, cheeky one etc. I feel that is what they want to avoid as much as possible. And too right.

Well it hasn't happened yet has it so it's all speculation. And I did say event which can be work related or not. Some work places do have events you can bring your family too 💁‍♀️

Nobody would care if they took their kids out and about. It's completely normal to take your kid to a concert or a sports match. The Sussexes are abnormal in not doing so.

What they care about is a couple who make a big hoo-ha about their kids being in danger and requiring an unusual level of privacy and security, and this is why you never see them and why they don't set foot in the terribly dangerous UK. Yet, when it comes to monetary opportunities like their Netflix show, out come the kids. And now, after some brutal weeks of bad reviews, the kids may come out again, to give their parents some positive press.

Meanwhile, Catherine and William get told by Sussex fans that their kids are over exposed and being categorised by the press. Well, that's on the press, not on the family. They shouldn't have to prevent their kids enjoying normal family events because of what people lap up in the press. They are not defining themselves by it, or using it it enhance/create a victimhood status, or using their children as media bait. Good on them.

Do you see the details pfnthe threats they grt for you to determine the level of security they need?

They haven't just rilled out their kids for netflix. There have been glimpses of their children in pictures they have released before netflix.

Who said I'm a Sussex fan? I just don't agree with cetlrtain points and sometimes the criticism they get is not justified. Yes it's the press who label the Wales kid's this way but that's point Harry is making about wanting his kids to have more privacy. You can hardly say H&M are using their children for media bait considering how they have kept their children privacy quite well.

@Spectre8 I didn't address my post to you and you are not a poster I choose to engage with.

Thedom · 29/01/2025 12:19

Of all the Invictus events, the winter games is probably the one event that would be most enjoyable for their kids.

It kind of looks like their PR are seeing the children as their next opportunity to get some sort of positiver PR. They have gone from being the loved up couple, to concentrating on separate independent careers, and now, going by Meghans recent public posts and the cooking show and possibly Invictus, the kids are being brought onto the stage as part of the next iteration of being a 'wholesome family''.

Wellchild are receiving some really negative posts on X after posting Harrys' video. Suella Braveman is supporting the call for Harrys US visa application to be released. Their reputations are in the absolute toilet at the moment.
