You're more than welcome to her!! She would chew you up and spit you out. Actually she probably wouldn't glance in your direction unless she thought you could be some use to her!

I disagree with your assessment of Kate. She isn't the slightest bit like Meghan, not remotely.

I wouldn’t want to be her friend and I’m 100 pct sure she would see no use in someone like me either.
But Kate just seems like the ultimate gold digger to me. In a way I preferred when royals only had arranged marriages to other royals. That way at least didn’t need to watch. Commoners falling over themselves to court princes the way Kate did (and lots of other girls tried), it’s so undignified

I said before I’m no fan of any royals but hair to be clear of anyone is a user it’s obviously Kate who was nothing special in her own right, while Meghan had her own career and money before Harry.
Id choose Meghan over Kate any day. They both seem self obsessed and materialistic, but at least Meghan can fend for herself.

Just as well, the way things are going.

God. You’d feel actually unwell, wouldn’t you? Your FIL springs hundreds of thousands of pounds on couture clothing for you, then you have a baby and your body shape changes and none of it fits! No wonder she ran away.

I agree. Poor Meghan, the Royal Family were just awful to her weren’t they?!

CaraCameleon · 21/01/2025 20:59

They are polar opposites.

Yes of course Kate has been an asset to William who much like Harry isn’t very bright or capable. She’s way smarter than him.
smart enough to marry him and play the role of dutiful wife and landing the big prize in the end. Like I commented earlier, she is fulfilling the obligations of the role and being a support to the monarchy and William. As a republican I of course prefer Meghan who is damaging the institution and is a total disruption. She may be doing it for selfish needs, but the end result is damaging the monarchy and I’m all for that

You sound lovely.
Catherine has given just as much back to the country, if not more, than she takes. For some it’s not about the money. You talking of money and gold digging is undignified.

What has she given back?

WeCantGoOverIt · 21/01/2025 21:09

Yes, how awful that a 19 year old student hadn’t had a full career before meeting her 19 year old future husband.

Here’s a grey rock for you.
If I have to explain, you obviously just don’t or don’t want to understand.

I see your point. I doubt you would prefer Meghan as a mother to children though, I'm sure there's plenty worse out there but I'm fairly certain she's pretty terrible as far as a talent for motherhood goes.

For me, comparing Meghan and Kate is a little unfair. Kate was pretty much thrust into the media spotlight in her early 20s, having paparazzis camping outside of her home everyday for years.

She actually had jobs but had to resign because of the media intrusion and paparazzis showing up. She sadly didn't have an opportunity to build a career. Meghan didn't have that burden. She met Harry in her mid 30s.

I think both of them have issues, you clearly have to be if you're willing to marry into that family

Don't be daft - I believe they genuinely fell in love and still are. I don't think she is a gold digger at all. WTF should royals have to have arranged marriages? It's good to bring in 'new blood' because no way do we need European royalty intermarrying because they are already related to each other.

What is "undignified" about falling in love??

Did you see the way she was pursued and harassed by the press? Way more than Meghan ever had to put up with. She was followed and abused in the street on her way to and from work - had 'slut' and 'whore' shouted at her by the press pack to get a reaction, had her phone hacked. No wonder she had to give up her job.

Reetpetitenot · 21/01/2025 21:28

That dissection of the royal brides wardrobes is interesting. The comments even more so. Meghan’s supporters claiming no adjustment for inflation (I don't remember inflation running at 200% between 2011 and 2018, but maybe I missed it.....) which would explain Meghan’s wardrobe costing almost 3x as much.

Laura Lopes is his step daughter

GreenTeaLikesMe · 21/01/2025 21:43

The UK really needs some sort of law protecting those who are in relationships with members of the royal family. Nobody (Catherine, Meghan or anyone else) should have to put up with some of the harassment that we've seen.

Some version of the Swedish system where anyone marrying into the RF has to go to "prince/princess school," actually learn and study a bunch of stuff, and then get formally integrated, would help too.

BasiliskStare · 21/01/2025 21:44

I do suspect Kate held out and was determined to get William BUT I think she is getting on with doing her job. I am sure William had some stardust which meant she fell for him more than A.N.Other St Andrews student or chaps she had met at parties. Her little smirk at the wedding when the "for richer or poorer" well - it looked a bit odd , to to be fair to the woman she does seem to have got on with the job quietly and not pushed herself forward. & She will have to do it for a long time. Personally I would prefer to be Pippa being married to a very very rich man and have no public duties whatsoever. Shallow , moi ? 😂

I realise the discussion has moved on, but coming back to this quote (that @friendlycat quoted earlier on)

“They want to be people who are looked at as people who want to change the world.”

It's illuminating because it reveals a lot about their mindset. They want to be perceived as people who want to change the world - not to be people who actually are changing the world. It's all about how they are perceived by others - not about what they're actually contributing.

Reetpetitenot · 21/01/2025 21:53

I think she was probably gently amused at the thought that marrying the next king was very unlikely to make her poorer! Never seen her smirk on other occasions but prepared to be corrected

She couldn't have done that if William hadn't wanted to marry her.

I've just looked at them saying their vows on YouTube. She had a slight twitch in the corner of her mouth at three points during the vows and at least one of those looked like her starting to lick her lips then stopping herself. No smirk in the eyes. Looks more like nerves to me than a smirk for certain words.

And of course William had no say in this. He was led by his dick, or did Catherine hold a gun to his head? Or is did she procure the talents of a witch to ensnare her Prince?

Life would have been a lot simpler for Catherine if she did marry her University boyfriend Rupert Finch, or a James Matthew’s type. She would have had all the money and security without all the responsibility and scrutiny. But yeah, she’s a gold digger only interested in a crown 🙄
