Catherine has also regularly been seen in high street items. And of course Anne is often seen in beautiful vintage items from her younger days.

Yes, but less than she used to. It is not a critisicm, just an observation.

I love her style and she has been smart mixing couture with high street, but it is obvious she is more confident with expensive clothing than before.

Hughs · 21/01/2025 19:49

I guess Catherine has gone up a rank in the hierarchy hasn't she - Princess of Wales maybe has a more generous clothing allowance than Duchess of Cambridge.

pelargoniums · 21/01/2025 19:51

Daily Mail (I know, I know) does good breakdowns of the royals’ clothing and costs.

This is Meghan’s: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7870485/amp/Meghan-Markles-wardrobe-cost-massive-944-146-royal.html

And Kate’s: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12689375/amp/Kate-Middletons-159-000-shopping-bill-Princess-Wales-spent-18-000-year.html

Take with a massive pinch of salt, especially when you see the Kate story is sympathetically headlined and angled around how she SLASHED her wardrobe budget and REWORE old favourites, which almost has you nodding along and going “Oh, in that case £162,000” is completely reasonable.

Meghan Markle's wardrobe cost £947,132 since she became a royal

Since she married Prince Harry on May 19, Meghan Markle has worn more than £947,132 of clothing, paid for by the budget the couple receive from Prince Charles, via the Duchy of Cornwall.

Why is it telling? Why can't I make a point about someone commenting that this will be the news for ages and point out actually headlines chnahe quite quickly. God stop badgering me about how I won't comment on bullying, seriously stop it. I've explained I won't be harassed into making a comment on it. I'll make a comment on it on my own volition. Not because you think I must.

Not to be rude, but your posts are consistently tedious and boring. It's genuinely really tiresome to have to keep scrolling by them. You just bicker, contradict and play devil's advocate the entire time, fruitlessly. You don't bring anything interesting to the conversation - ever. I really am scratching my head and wondering what you get out of it? What is it that you enjoy about these RF threads as you never seem entertained, interested or wanting to share an opinion or news as others do? You seem unable to contribute to conversations in a normal way.

Not2identifying · 21/01/2025 20:01

Meghan's wardrobe in her first 12 months in the RF was substantially more expensive than Kate's wardrobe in her first 12 months, even after adjusting for inflation and Meghan was very keen on French and American labels whereas Kate wore mainly British/Commonwealth. I was a fan at the time and I reasoned that Meghan was older, more confident and more used to wearing expensive clothes. But when she started coming in for bad press I remember thinking that she could turn it around with a more modest wardrobe and more British companies. She appeared to be doing just that on the South Africa tour and then came that TV interview, the break in Canada and then the 'stepping back' announcement.

tattychicken · 21/01/2025 20:05

Charles is actually know for being quite frugal. Wears good quality old clothes for years, gets them repaired and adjusted rather than buys new. He wears an old tweed jacket that looks to be mainly made up of patches.

And he does have a daughter.

Did Meghan wear expensive clothes before meeting Harry? I didn’t think she did. She seems to have favoured ripped jeans and shirts . I don’t think she really did formal wear.

Not2identifying · 21/01/2025 20:06

Thinking about the press they've had (because I clicked on the DM links above) it really is as if their goal in life was to make the tabloids as much money as possible by behaving outside the Royal conventions. I wonder if Harry ever reflects on the fact that the tabloids must absolutely love the drama he's created since 2018.

No he doesn’t!

Not2identifying · 21/01/2025 20:09

Charles is good at looking a tiny bit frugal but actually he loves the finer things in life and has much more expensive tastes than QEII did. He's more like the famously extravagant QEQM.

I think Meghan had more experience of high end labels than Kate did prior to marriage. She likes the laid back Cali look (and I think this is what suits her best) but she did also enjoy glamour, I think.

tattychicken · 21/01/2025 20:10

@CaraCameleon Sorry!! Had a brain fart. Of course he doesn't.

Oh, sorry @tattychicken . Cross posted.

He does have a step daughter, but I don't think he's ever really been in the position of actual parent to her (IYSWIM)

If you include the steps, he has 10 grandchildren

There’s actual stats on that collated by a Royal wardrobe blogger who identifies each item they wear and then where possible tracks the retail price of the item and then tallies them. They have a whole page setting out the stats for what Kate, Meghan and Princess Sofia of Sweden wore in each of their first year as a married-in royal family member. The source quotes in Euros, and the figures for Kate and Meghan respectively are:

Kate - €61,603
Meghan - €479,048

Both tallies exclude bespoke designer items for which no price was available - Kate wore 38 of these in her first year, and Meghan wore 48.

Meghan before Harry. I have no idea what she was thinking on most of these occasions. She must have been told she had great legs at some time and often stands like she needs to go to the bathroom !

"My original comment to the poster about this is responding to a completely different point. That poster was gleefully commenting how this is going to travel far and be top news for a while. And my point was it won't because news changes quickly in terms of what the top news is esp with Trumps inauguration it won't be travelling far at all in the press and only on sites like here or other sm ones where people continue to discuss it."

@Spectre8 this bit of news is still floating around amongst all the other debris of trump. It hasn't gone away .

Catherine has a substancial clothes budget, so Meghan's bill must have been outrageous.

I would say $75,000 for Meghan’s Ralph and Russo engagement dress is pretty outrageous.

Way to create a good impression with your ILs to be! Charles must have been stunned at the barefaced cheek! Talk about taking advantage! Showed herself as a total moneygrabber. It must have crossed their minds that Harry was being used surely?

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 21/01/2025 20:51

God. You’d feel actually unwell, wouldn’t you? Your FIL springs hundreds of thousands of pounds on couture clothing for you, then you have a baby and your body shape changes and none of it fits! No wonder she ran away.

I said before I’m no fan of any royals but hair to be clear of anyone is a user it’s obviously Kate who was nothing special in her own right, while Meghan had her own career and money before Harry.
Id choose Meghan over Kate any day. They both seem self obsessed and materialistic, but at least Meghan can fend for herself.

You're more than welcome to her!! She would chew you up and spit you out. Actually she probably wouldn't glance in your direction unless she thought you could be some use to her!

I disagree with your assessment of Kate. She isn't the slightest bit like Meghan, not remotely.

There’s no way she’d have paid for that dress herself. It was a massive red flag. As was the bridezilla behaviour.

That's true about their backgrounds, but Catherine seems to have been an asset to William as a wife whereas it seems more like Harry has been lumbered with a liability who brings nothing but problems, stress and drama everywhere she goes.

Kate doesn’t use and ghost people after love bombing them.
Kate doesn’t bully her staff.

Meghan does. So good luck with that! 😂😂

They are polar opposites.
