Kamala getting as far as she did is one of the things the Democrats need to reflect on.

While I agree, I'm also musing on how far she actually got, considering the 2020 campaign had to be cancelled and the only reason for her being on the ticket this time is that they left it too late to nominate anyone else and the rules barred them from spending the campaign money on anyone else

Rather than focusing on Kamala a better question might be why they allowed Biden to carry on so long, but that's a whole different thread

It is tomorrow's chip paper if you go to BBC News, Guardian, Telegraph and even the Daily Mail the main headlines are either Trump, Musk and now Kiers statement on Southport. VF may have reprinted it but it doesn't mean it's still trending as a top new story elsewhere

Would that please you?

Is that your stance to silence the multiple victims of bullying?

🙄 oh here we again with the bullying line. So predicatable.

My original comment to the poster about this is responding to a completely different point. That poster was gleefully commenting how this is going to travel far and be top news for a while. And my point was it won't because news changes quickly in terms of what the top news is esp with Trumps inauguration it won't be travelling far at all in the press and only on sites like here or other sm ones where people continue to discuss it.

Perhaps you should go learn to read properly or maybe you need new glasses.

Kamala ended up as candidate this time because she was VP. But how did she rise to become VP? Biden was President so they couldn’t have forced him aside without admitting he shouldn’t still have been President and that would have been a whole other board game.

Onlyonekenobe · 21/01/2025 15:20

Where will they go from here?

Harry will go home, in one form or another. Whether he's physically in the UK or not, he will go back to the RF in some capacity. South Africa, maybe (if they'll have him) with his children visiting over the holidays, and that'll be it. Invictus isn't going to last, it's too mired in corruption (which is a shame, but inevitable). He will soul search, he will find some random faith to turn to to "heal", he will live remotely, he'll play polo occasionally. One day, he will reappear with teenaged/young adult children, looking aged and chastened, back in Westminster Abbey or some such. He won't talk to the press, he won't write any books. He'll give up because he doesn't know how to do anything without help and he won't ever trust anyone around him to help again, ever.

Meghan was raised to never give her milk away for free. She will do what she's always done: hustle. She'll never be what she aspires to be, but she will go to her grave looking for it. She's got two children with Harry, she'll be just fine for the rest of her life. She'll appear on a red carpet here, a gala there. She will get more and more plastic surgery to continue to look hot and desirable. She will post about good works. She will be forced to keep an otherwise low profile in return for child support from Harry, which is what will keep her designer gowns a couple of times a year. She'll be a real housewife looking down her nose at real housewives, touting her and her children's titles at every turn to assert her superiority.

Is your preference that you would rather it be yesterday's news in 24 hours. It does read like that, hence the posters comment. Perhaps I'm assuming wrongly?

I just can’t see where they go from here, apart from living a quiet life but that doesn’t bring in the money.

She’s unfortunately not got the star quality and makes everything about her, her and her without having the depth of her actually being that likeable or interesting.

He’s only got his royal connection and that’s been blown apart. Strategically they messed up a million fold by denigrating their relationship with the British royal family. It was their only USP and they blasted it sky high and slaughtered the golden goose.

It’s so apparent that firstly they don’t have the base to form a successful showbiz style career and importantly they don’t listen to professional advice from those who have tried to help them develop “their brand” going forward.

It’s actually quite hard to understand how a couple who had such goodwill towards them and such opportunities have managed to be in this situation. But it also shows huge arrogance that neither of them have listened to sage advice, initially from the late Queen, other family members and then professional advisors and companies who specialise in PR.

It is quite a pickle, is it not? I wonder if Harry believes still that Charles will rescue them financially if they run out of money (another reason to continue burning money in lawsuits). But is Charles willing?

Probably it would be smart and rational for the BRF to pay them off with the condition that they go into obscurity, but Meghan has been hustling for fame all her life and I cannot see her giving it up.

Charles would not see his son impecunious but Harry still has plenty of millions to live off and will inherit a substantial additional sum from Charles at some point. He won’t need to creep home with his tail between his legs unless he really blows what he has. If he does then I see a life rent of a property on a royal estate and a yearly allowance of a couple of hundred thousand, rather than another substantial sum in his lifetime,

The OP's stance - that it is the reporting of the news, rather than its substance that is her focus - is quite telling.
In other words, the bullying doesn't matter because the news cycle moves on.

I think they are in real danger of blowing what they have. Just the level of security they want is extremely expensive, we are talking millons of dollars a year. That[s why they wanted the IPP status, so someone else picked up the tabs.

That plus the lawsuits, an expensive mortage, the upkeep of such a property, staff, private planes, clothes, beauty treatments... They are living a billionaire life on a millionaire budget, at best.

Edited

Why is it telling? Why can't I make a point about someone commenting that this will be the news for ages and point out actually headlines chnahe quite quickly. God stop badgering me about how I won't comment on bullying, seriously stop it. I've explained I won't be harassed into making a comment on it. I'll make a comment on it on my own volition. Not because you think I must.

JSMill · 21/01/2025 15:43

The lawsuits are more than enough to blow the bank. On Sky News this morning, they said Hugh Grant settled because even if he won, it would have cost him millions in legal fees.

friendlycat · 21/01/2025 15:44

Where do they go from here?

I would imagine they will carry on pretty much in the same way for a while yet. After all they haven't listened to any sound professional advice so why would they now?

I would guess there will be more faux royal tours thrown in, accusations denied, some gala type appearances for Meghan at lesser style events, the endless photo ops and more of the same that we've seen to date.

But the caveat is that the pool has got much smaller, the critics more critical and the opportunities much much less lucrative.

That's my guess of the short term. The medium to long term is much harder to predict. But aside from this I would guess that Harry will be seeking some form of regained family connection with at least his father whilst he is still alive.

Onlyone no doubt has summarised the long term quite well.

There’s a separate thread on how the first day of the case descended in to utter farce

Will have to read! But I remember the judge was fed up with them all so I could have see him ordering a penny in damages and not costs awarded to teach them all a lesson about settling these things out if court,

ChimneyRock · 21/01/2025 16:13

Slight tangent here but has Harry given up on attaining IPP status? When is the other case being heard about his security and what is he going for there?

I don't think it matters that VF isn't front page news anymore. It won't be forgotten. Journalists will be bringing up again in February for Invictus and March when Love Meghan lands. It's like a turd you can't flush.

Gowlett · 21/01/2025 16:33

I’d believe that Montecito locals aren’t into H&M.
Nobody had heard the place until they rocked up.

Meghan said she daren’t view the house as they couldn’t afford it. Next thing… They own it. It’s out of their league.

Meghan grew up in the entertainment industry, her dad got her a start. It was her dream to be Hollywood royalty.

Now she’s neither Hollywood nor royalty, she hadn’t earned her place. But she wants to enjoy the trappings of both.

What Harry thinks s neither here nor there. The Netflix show is about Meghan. His other agendas seem ti be his main thing…

Oh yes I am gleefully posting that a bully is getting called out. Absolutely! It really shouldn’t be swept under the carpet. Unfortunately for you, and for your beloved H&M, this is not going to go away. Good.

You are wrong but that won’t stop you from thinking you’re right. Who do we know that is also like that….?! 🤔

I think the appeal is something to do with the interpretation of the ‘VIP list’, so that might be connected with the IPP status?

Think its April? So if the NGN goes ahead which is supposed to be 10 weeks - it willbe back to backcourt cases ... with Invictus in the middle.
