When will pointless King abdicate

in favour of another bastion of the Monarchy? Loathe them all but assume it will take another generation to allow them to bow out in some sort of graceful manner - and hang onto loads of Titles, Land, Jewels, money etc. How has someone given the title of 'Queen Consort' i.e ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen and bestowed privileges e.g being allowed to allocate Royal Warrants? Don't know how she's got the gall to wear jewellery that previously adorned previous incumbent let alone the late Queen. Luckily, she does bugger all but retire to the home settled in the Divorce, smoke fags, drink Gin and Dubonnet (smells just like Granny!) and ensures stock of fully functioning Mont Blanc Fountain Pens are to hand - ready to be despatched to King at the faintest sign of a tremulous lip.

What a stupid bloody remark.
Where do you want them to be shot?
Do you want them all standing in a row?
Are you going to go and pick up the bodies and put them somewhere so they don't rot in situ? Would you enjoy that?
Do you personally want to shoot them all?
Do you want them shot cleanly, dead first bullet, or do you want them wounded and suffering for a while, as when heads were chopped off, and the axe wasn't sharp enough?
Which ones are 'them all'?

How would your life be different if they were 'all' shot?

You've obviously given this a lot of thought. Maybe you could set up a committee.

WinnieTheW0rm · 14/01/2025 17:54

Did I get that right?

Pretty much

There is the Monarch, with the formal role, the heir who is shadowing and learning, the Counsellors of State who may be called on to exercise monarchical functions during absence/brief incapacitation of the Monarch.

None of the others have constitutional roles, unless appointed to the Privy Council (and I don’t think any are members at the moment)

Less formally, they represent the Monarch when carrying out certain royal duties (representational ones, that is)

Adamante · 14/01/2025 18:02

I think with both Charles and William being major WEF supporters has turned lots of people.

This. It's made me take more notice of them and not in a good way. I should think this might be the case for quite a few people who didn't give them much thought before.

The Queen smells? Righty oh, that's mature. Don't be late for skool.

Anne of Cleves had all this. Apparently the King - Henry VIII - complained that she smelled of fish

As ex-Royal Mistress come Queen Consorts go I think we are getting off rather lightly with the current one. She has caused very little trouble compared to others. And she champions some great causes in her work.

Look back at the most famous ex-Mistress come Queen Consort in our history and you get the magnificent Anne Boleyn. Quite a few people died and a new branch of religion was imposed on the country for her sake. A Royal Princess disposed and all sorts.

I'll take Camilla thanks. She seems far more cheerful and far less power hungry than the movers and shakers behind Anne.

Hopefully she will not share the same fate as her famous predecessor. We don't tolerate that kind of thing now, and I doubt the King has the energy anyway.

And she gave us Elizabeth I

I like Charles, he has been a steadfast champion for the environment through many years of ridicule.

Indeed

WinnieTheW0rm · 14/01/2025 17:17

The individuals, no particular reason.

The office of head of state is however rather different, and like other offices of state, are respected regardless of incumbent. That is common across nations and I am mildly surprised you’ve never noticed

And the individuals get respect for the way in which they carry out their roles.

Cynic17 · 14/01/2025 19:14

What a nasty OP - just downright unpleasant.

HomeworkMonitor · 14/01/2025 19:19

I always felt when Charles got the top job he wouldn't abdicate as he had waited so long, but I have a feeling Camilla and his health will force his hand + William subtly. William knows an image change is needed, and he is the one who will modernise the monarchy. Charles is another hugely extravagant senior royal like the Queen Mother and Margaret. William will also have the wherewithal to cut off HandyAndy whereas Charles wont

CoffeeCantata · 14/01/2025 19:50

Wow - there are some uncharacteristically bitter, angry and sad posters on here today - following on from OP's semi-literate raging. The Queen smells? Shoot them all? Nice!

I'd like to point them in the direction of that lovely 'hate site', Celebitchy. That's where they'll find their tribe!

As a pp so perceptively said...things are looking bad for Harry and Meghan and the bile has to be spewed somewhere...but please let it be on Celebitchy.

WinnieTheW0rm · 14/01/2025 21:00

I don't think Charles would ever abdicate

If he wanted to retire, I think he would do so via requesting Parliament to install William as Prince Regent

Thistooshallpsss · 14/01/2025 21:06

The only way to change from a constitutional monarchy is by parliament and this being a crucial issue supported by a majority at an election. Individual members of the royal family can abdicate but there will always be a next in line to the throne some of whom might be very unpopular (prince Andrew anyone?) so it’s a bit unfair to castigate the king for not abdicating if you want to move to a republic then join a campaign for it the future really is in the hands of the people.

Because Parliament said it's OK.

Don't know how she's got the gall to wear jewellery that previously adorned previous incumbent let alone the late Queen.

Same way you have the gall that you have. It may seem different to you though, if ...

Luckily, she does bugger all but retire to the home settled in the Divorce, smoke fags, drink Gin and Dubonnet (smells just like Granny!)

... you might be a misogynist?

Ah, OK - you're an ad placement. OK. Pretty clearly still a misogynistic one, tho'! 👀👔👞👟👑🍆🌭🍌

You are not comparing like with like though the population of Denmark is under 6 million compared to 67 million in the UK alone, the King is Head of State for I think 14 other countries including Canada and Australia and is currently head of the commonwealth 56 countries. The King of Denmark is HOS to Greenland and the Faroe Islands Their duties and costings are in no way comparable. Hopefully one of the royal experts on here will come along with the facts and figures of running the royal properties which I suspect are vastly more numerous and cost a lot more than Denmarks.

I think the "vastly more numerous" properties is part of the problem tbh. King Charles owns or has access to a ridiculous number since he has taken on his late mother's and late grandmother's residences. It's bordering on the obscene when you think about the levels of homelessness that the UK is experiencing currently.

ItsProperlyColdOut · 15/01/2025 00:01

He doesn't personally own the vast majority of those properties however. Most of them belong to the Crown Estate, so it's not like he can sell them to be used as homeless shelters. I'm not sure Windsor Castle would really be suitable for the purpose anyway.

The 'humble' Danish royals also have a pretty extensive property portfolio, especially considering how small Denmark is.

It didn't take me long to think about the logistics of shooting all the Royal Family and asking you those questions. You are the one who wants them all shot, not I. Perhaps you are the one who needs to form a committee. You can't even manage to answer a few questions on your own.

I loathe them all too. And none of them are anyway good looking 🤣 Well apart from H& W's wives. You imagine Kings/Queens/Princes/Princesses as beautiful and handsome
That the Royals are not, particularly Charles.

I am sure you are a shining beauty.

This is such a mean-spirited and ignorant thread.

StMarie4me · 15/01/2025 19:39

How nasty.

I'm not a Royalist particularly but Charles has waited all his life for this. Forced to marry a woman he didn't love. Ridiculed for many things he has since been vindicated for.

He deserves his time, if indeed any of them do.

There is nothing posh about saying “oh do” when it is followed by “f off”

There's not but it's very satisfying!

ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen - I certainly agree about this. IT is a disgrace that this woman has power and status just because she shagged the PoW.

Don't be ridiculous.

Diana would have had it if they hadn't divorced and she had shagged plenty, including married men!
