When will pointless King abdicate

in favour of another bastion of the Monarchy? Loathe them all but assume it will take another generation to allow them to bow out in some sort of graceful manner - and hang onto loads of Titles, Land, Jewels, money etc. How has someone given the title of 'Queen Consort' i.e ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen and bestowed privileges e.g being allowed to allocate Royal Warrants? Don't know how she's got the gall to wear jewellery that previously adorned previous incumbent let alone the late Queen. Luckily, she does bugger all but retire to the home settled in the Divorce, smoke fags, drink Gin and Dubonnet (smells just like Granny!) and ensures stock of fully functioning Mont Blanc Fountain Pens are to hand - ready to be despatched to King at the faintest sign of a tremulous lip.

Would you like some real problems?

I've noticed a lot of anti monarchy posts on mn recently. I know a lot of people aren't supporters of the monarchy, but the sheer number and frequency makes me think this is a concerted campaign of destabilisation from a foreign power.

It's not a very good campaign, is it, saying 'your queen smells'.

DappledThings · 14/01/2025 08:19

JRSKSSBH · 14/01/2025 08:05

This. I agree. I think malign forces are keen to stir things up.

Maybe. If this is an example of one they need to work harder on not sounding like an illiterate idiot.

But also like many things support will wane over time. Like church attendance.

I'm mostly ambivalent about the monarchy but would vote to abolish if it came to a referendum. I quite like Camilla. I liked how she looked a bit embarrassed at the whole ludicrous trappings of the coronation and seems to want to just get on with the rest of the role. Kate's constant curtseying to her own FIL makes me cringe.

SidekickSylvia · 14/01/2025 08:20

I like Camilla's charity work highlighting violence towards women and girls. I don't think she gets enough credit for that.

I agree that you shouldn't sniff people, op, as it can come across as rude.

Yeah exactly. It's so badly written it's more likely to stir up support for the monarchy on here than against them.

But will it be a proper thought out referendum and what that means for the uk as a constitutional monarchy or will it be the shitshow that was Brexit. I’d consider a republic if I thought we would get something better than we have now. I’m just not convinced we would. And you can’t undo it if it goes wrong. See Brexit again!

Geordie01 · 14/01/2025 08:24

Calm down OP. Life is a lot easier when you don’t get so worked up by things that’s have zero impact in your day to day life.

namechangeGOT · 14/01/2025 08:25

I love Camilla, I really do.

Literally all queens consorts are called "Queen (name)".

PokerFriedDips · 14/01/2025 08:45

No point in abdication. That just replaces one waste-of-a-life parasite with another. It's the role that's the problem, not the occupant. But there's enough royalists willing to sign up to the notion that this one family is a better category of human being than the rest of us, that the monarchy will never be abolished. If monarchy exists then it is intrinsically awful and it doesn't matter one jot how awful the specific occupant of the throne is.

Queen Camilla is the queen and has every right under the current system to do all the things that queens (non-regnant) can do, including wearing jewellery and granting warrants. If you support the existence of the monarchy then deal with it. It's not a meritocracy, the same deal goes whoever the current post holder is. If you want any kind of merit-based selection for any of these roles then you can't support the concept of monarchy at all.

What's the source of this fascinating reveal?

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2025 08:53

Pointless king bit of a tautology.

I’m quite impressed a 5 year old has managed to find and post on MN, but they should probably be getting ready for school now.

GCAcademic · 14/01/2025 09:02

Incidentally, I understand Camilla gave up smoking many years ago, before she married Charles.

She also doesn't drink. I think the troll OP is getting confused with Charles's grandmother. Perhaps they should lay off the gin and dubonet themselves.

BunnyLake · 14/01/2025 09:03

Can’t really muster up that much interest either way (for or against).

Hardly. Support for the monarchy is on a steady decline, in this country. With ever increasing poverty and inequality a lot of people are waking up to the fact that such unearned wealth and privilege that is the royal family, when so many have so little, is wrong.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 14/01/2025 09:05

U OK hun?

Thebogopogopanpacificgrandprix · 14/01/2025 09:15

I like Charles, he has been a steadfast champion for the environment through many years of ridicule.

RG2025 · 14/01/2025 09:19

When will an old man give up his money, titles, position and everything he has had his whole life? To live as a everyday person?

Um....tough question that.

Call me Kerazzy, but I would say "never"

Happyinarcon · 14/01/2025 09:23

There is already too much pointless, contrived conflict in the world and the media loves reducing everything to a cartoon version of reality and fanning the flames.

I'm a late-in-life monarchist, but I love the post, you did give me a laugh Grin

It seems to be taking too long for people to wake up, imo.

I think (and I’m not one for Royalty but do respect that it’s a huge part of UK life) that it’s awful she is known as Queen but I do feel glad Charles finally got to marry someone he loves and everyone deserves that.

but how you could sit and be called Queen of England 😂😂😂😂 well that’s a mockery !!

But affairs and all of that was part and parcel of their indulgent lifestyle wasn’t it

Why? She’s married to the king.

There has been a monarchy in Britain for over 1000 years, don't you think in all that time there will have been anti royalist sentiments? It's not like we've removed a monarchs head before and installed a republic at any time in our history.
