The royal family

When will pointless King abdicate

in favour of another bastion of the Monarchy? Loathe them all but assume it will take another generation to allow them to bow out in some sort of graceful manner - and hang onto loads of Titles, Land, Jewels, money etc. How has someone given the title of 'Queen Consort' i.e ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen and bestowed privileges e.g being allowed to allocate Royal Warrants? Don't know how she's got the gall to wear jewellery that previously adorned previous incumbent let alone the late Queen. Luckily, she does bugger all but retire to the home settled in the Divorce, smoke fags, drink Gin and Dubonnet (smells just like Granny!) and ensures stock of fully functioning Mont Blanc Fountain Pens are to hand - ready to be despatched to King at the faintest sign of a tremulous lip.

Agree, posh people would never abbreviate fuck to f.

You know that’s not what I meant

BarbaraHoward · 14/01/2025 12:43

Mischance · 14/01/2025 12:42

ex Mistress is now referred to as Queen - I certainly agree about this. IT is a disgrace that this woman has power and status just because she shagged the PoW.

She has nothing because she shagged the PoW. She's Queen because she married the King.

If you think there are leadership skills more valuable than birth or marriage, you don't believe in monarchy.

Lovelybitofsquirrel3 · 14/01/2025 12:32

There is nothing posh about saying “oh do” when it is followed by “f off”

Truly regal is when you tell reporters to fuck off and it makes headline news, but the papers don’t report it verbatim to avoid ruffling the public, and a new phrase is born

Naff off!!

I think (and I’m not one for Royalty but do respect that it’s a huge part of UK life) that it’s awful she is known as Queen but I do feel glad Charles finally got to marry someone he loves and everyone deserves that.

but how you could sit and be called Queen of England 😂😂😂😂 well that’s a mockery !!

But affairs and all of that was part and parcel of their indulgent lifestyle wasn’t it

Why? What makes her any different to any other queen or consort?

I never understood the hate

In Denmark the royal family has been properly paired down, and they are in no way as money and privilege greedy, as our royals are. For example, in 2023 King Frederik and Queen Mary got around £1.5million for fulfilling their duties, and that includes cost to cover for running their residence and for staff. This in contrast to the UK Royals getting £86.3 million, for period 2023-24, this further being bloated to £132 million for the 2024-25 period!! And Charles is a billionaire, who is getting incrementally richer, every day. What an incredible difference. Maybe the Scandi royal families have a better chance at surviving, given how more humble and self aware they, in relation to the citizens of those countries.

You are not comparing like with like though the population of Denmark is under 6 million compared to 67 million in the UK alone, the King is Head of State for I think 14 other countries including Canada and Australia and is currently head of the commonwealth 56 countries. The King of Denmark is HOS to Greenland and the Faroe Islands Their duties and costings are in no way comparable. Hopefully one of the royal experts on here will come along with the facts and figures of running the royal properties which I suspect are vastly more numerous and cost a lot more than Denmarks.

No, OP - I disagree with everything you say and I don't think you say it very effectively. I'm amazed that after 30+ years there are still some people who harbour such extreme feelings about Camilla...good grief - move on, people!

Personally I really like her. The marriage situation was extremely complex and I wouldn't judge any of the 3 -or 4 - parties involved so brutally. We don't know the full story, even if we think we do. I think Camilla has been brave to bear the cruel judgment of so many priggish people (God, I hope they've never done anything wrong in their lives...) for so long, and so many bitter insults. She's doing an amazing job now and I wish her all the best.

Btw - and I know Sussex supporters will say 'Why are you bringing them up?' - the OP confirms for me that the really nasty, vicious posts with genuine (even frothing!!😂) hatred come from the anti-monarchists and the SS. I've never seen H or M mentioned on this forum with such obvious bile - their MN detractors are 99% considered, thoughtful, moderate, detached and well-argued - oh, and not so horribly personal. Just an observation from what I've seen over the last couple of years!

As a lurker on the RF boards I agree.

I also notice that attacks on the monarchy on her and other SM increase in amount and viciousness when the Sussex pair do something that's getting bad publicity.
Which is interesting.

Not to mention that the Danish royal family, as well as all the other 'Scandi' royals who are so admired here, have had their fair share of issues.

The now King Frederick was caught cheating on his wife in Madrid, and according to Danish royal watchers, he's been stepping out on her almost since the time he was married. Queen Mary is generally liked but her expensive tastes in clothes are often criticised. The 'spare', Prince Joaquim, had a messy divorce and he and his wife were publicly sore about their children losing their princely titles. His older sons were also accused of cashing in on their royal titles before they were removed.

I'm not sure most Danes would see their royals as "humble and self aware". And yes, I imagine that the per capita cost of running the Danish royal family is higher than the British royal family.

BiancasSilverCoat · 14/01/2025 14:38

Exactly, I feel for Queen Mary she has worked so hard to learn the language and become ‘Danish’ it was quite an achievement for an Australian to become Queen and to be so accepted by the public. The Norwegian royal family are not without scandal either and are currently being rocked by rape allegations against the future Queen’s son.

Hoolahoophop · 14/01/2025 15:08

As ex-Royal Mistress come Queen Consorts go I think we are getting off rather lightly with the current one. She has caused very little trouble compared to others. And she champions some great causes in her work.

Look back at the most famous ex-Mistress come Queen Consort in our history and you get the magnificent Anne Boleyn. Quite a few people died and a new branch of religion was imposed on the country for her sake. A Royal Princess disposed and all sorts.

I'll take Camilla thanks. She seems far more cheerful and far less power hungry than the movers and shakers behind Anne.

Hopefully she will not share the same fate as her famous predecessor. We don't tolerate that kind of thing now, and I doubt the King has the energy anyway.

I loathe them all too. And none of them are anyway good looking 🤣 Well apart from H& W's wives. You imagine Kings/Queens/Princes/Princesses as beautiful and handsome
That the Royals are not, particularly Charles.

Do you imagine that ? Really? Maybe your ideas have been created by watching too many Disney Princess stories?

Who has this much energy at 7.15 in the morning to get so worked up?

Someone who is trying to detract from the pasting that Meghan is getting in the press right now.,

Thought I would google what happened last time we got tired of them, executed them and attempted a republic (commonwealth)

After the Parliamentarian victory in the English Civil War, the Puritan views of the majority of Parliament and its supporters began to be imposed on the rest of the country. The Puritans advocated an austere lifestyle and restricted what they saw as the excesses of the previous regime. Most prominently, holidays such as Christmas and Easter were suppressed.[6] Pastimes such as the theatre and gambling were also banned. However, some forms of art that were thought to be "virtuous", such as opera, were encouraged. These changes are often credited to Cromwell, though they were introduced by the Commonwealth Parliament.[7]

Doesn't sound much fun, maybe if we are going to get rid of them we should plan a bit better this time and not 'Just shoot them'

I'd rather be drinking gin with Camilla and sulking with Charles over spilt ink than cancelling Christmas, the theatre and gambling!

Pointless King?
Why?
Who do you see instead?
(Am not British, either).
How odd.

Purplebunnie · 14/01/2025 16:11

@Hoolahoophop exactly and from what I remember Cromwell started to show royal tendencies and was a king in all but name, governing pretty much the same as the king who was killed. Oh and when he died, rule passed to his son - remind anyone of anything?

In the Danish royal family who's been paired with whom?

Just shoot them all I say. Had enough of the bloody lot of them.

What a stupid bloody remark.
Where do you want them to be shot?
Do you want them all standing in a row?
Are you going to go and pick up the bodies and put them somewhere so they don't rot in situ? Would you enjoy that?
Do you personally want to shoot them all?
Do you want them shot cleanly, dead first bullet, or do you want them wounded and suffering for a while, as when heads were chopped off, and the axe wasn't sharp enough?
Which ones are 'them all'?

How would your life be different if they were 'all' shot?

I've noticed a lot of anti monarchy posts on mn recently. I know a lot of people aren't supporters of the monarchy, but the sheer number and frequency makes me think this is a concerted campaign of destabilisation from a foreign power.

I think it’s because the queens gone. I don’t actually know of anyone who likes the royals, but we all tolerated it because of the Queen.

I will admit her life did seem pretty miserable but she put up and went where was told and said what she was told. Once she went the leftover miserable dysfunctional family just aren’t appealing in any way shape or form.

I think with both Charles and William being major WEF supporters has turned lots of people. I now think lots of people look at the them and think what is the point of you. We know they are controlled on their movement , clothing and what they say it’s all one big false sham and I cannot think of one reason we need them.

The individuals, no particular reason.

The office of head of state is however rather different, and like other offices of state, are respected regardless of incumbent. That is common across nations and I am mildly surprised you’ve never noticed

That's correct I am a stupid ass of a woman who wouldn't know her arse from her elbow!

The Royal Family is NOT the HOS. So again, why do that family deserve our respect with the honourable exception of the titular HOS who just happens to be KC3. It could have been anyone, but he was born first.

Did I get that right?😊
