Dislike, as in 'I dislike the vocal fry in her voice', or 'I dislike cookery programmes that don't show any cooking', for example?

Of course that makes sense. That's an opinion, which is the point of a discussion board.

Other people will have different likes and dislikes.

Have you seen the whole series? How do you know there will be no cooking!!?

Give it a chance. You might well enjoy it!

(p.s. I have never heard of the term vocal fry so can't comment on that)

Baital · 04/01/2025 20:17

TulipTiptoer · 04/01/2025 20:10

Your prerogative. Some don't like it from the 28 second clip. That's fine!

I have no idea whether I will enjoy it. I will have a look. I might like it. I might find it irritating, who knows.

Fair enough.

You find the trailer interesting enough to have a watch, other people don't. I have found a couple of podcasts in the past couple of days from trailers that I found interesting, so I will have a listen of some episodes. I have seen/heard others that don't interest me, so I won't, based on 28 seconds.

We happen to be discussing this specific trailer.

(But a plug for No Such Thing As A Fish podcast, from the creators of QI, which I have just found! If you don't like it I won't accuse you of 'hate')

TulipTiptoer · 04/01/2025 20:19

I will look that podcast up, I love a good podcast me! Thanks!

I was giving some examples, the vocal fry doesn't bother me, and I am not particularly into cookery programmes.

I have plenty to watch/listen to from trailers that do interest me, plus some word of mouth recommendations.

I think I found the recommendation on another MN thread! I enjoy it, especially when cooking (for DD, no edible flowers or elevating the everyday to exceptional)

It's not really 'questioning' though is it?

It's not an attempt to initiate a rational discussion. It's all about insulting other posters and trying to drag the thread off topic. It's been done a million times before on these threads. That's why I say it's become extremely tedious now. If only posters changed their tactics half as often as they change their user names!

Edited

You reckon threads of this kind are 'rational'? 😂

Lndnmummy · 04/01/2025 21:05

smilesy · 04/01/2025 19:51

Doesn't it count as a personal attack though, which is against talk guidelines? Especially when a poster is accused of being “not normal” and “juvenile” 🤷‍♀️

I said I don't find the behaviour normal. I stand by that. I really don't. I find it frightening that a vast population has it in for MM in such an obsessive way. It is disturbing, in MY opinion.

Yes, on the whole. People discussing their views on a TV trailer. It's a bit unusual that it's the RF board, but happens all the time on other boards.

MM has put herself out there with a show, people have an opinion. Like anyone else who presents a TV show. Personally I find Stacy Solomon mildly annoying. Love Louis Theroux, who other people will find irritating and mannered.

A “vast population has it in for MM”? Really? 🤔

Although both SS and LT have a solid body of work, and built their careers and presentation approach over many years of hard work. They are both solid professionals who have earned their presenting careers.

Yes, I don't get the 'give Meghan a chance' argument.

She's got her own series on the biggest streaming service in the world. This, however reluctant some may be to acknowledge, is not due to her own credentials but due to the fact that she married into the royal family. That's a 'chance' the overwhelming majority of people, including people way more talented than her, will never get.

NF have released a trailer which, as you have said, is basically an advertisement for the series. Of course people are going to form opinions on the basis of that trailer. That's why it's there. These opinions will also be influenced by people's perceptions of Meghan's behaviour over the past several years. Since she got this opportunity on the basis of who she is rather than what she has achieved, that is perfectly reasonable. And, dare I say it, rational.

Rhaidimiddim · 04/01/2025 21:17

IcedPurple · 04/01/2025 19:14

A 'different view' on what exactly?

This poster has done nothing other than make insinuations about other posters. I don't see any 'views' or 'differences of opinion', because the poster has expressed none.

I'd say so yes. But English is my second language so
I don't always get the nuances right. But overall yes.

Maybe I should do the whole 'I'm so perplexed' and 'genuinely don't understand' thing, and ask why so many posters change their user names without bothering to change their posting style which could be spotted from outer space.

I'm just trying to understand!

Questioning other posters' on their views is not a bad thing.

Knocking the pieces off the board.

Although both SS and LT have a solid body of work, and built their careers and presentation approach over many years of hard work. They are both solid professionals who have earned their presenting careers.

I think this is my issue with MM. There is a lack of professionalism.

I may or may not like the presenting style of some presenters, but I can recognise that they are skilled in presenting.

MM is trying to copy skilled presenters, without the skill.

The trailer is the sales pitch, which appears to me to be a derivative vanity project. I may be wrong, in which case the NF staff have made a terrible trailer. But given in general they are good at their jobs, and can create attractive trailers that accurately represent the full programme, I suspect the content isn't for me.

Talking about skilled presenting, I’ve never noticed this before. But from the trailer, she really struggles with eye contact.

There’s only strong eye contact with one male chef, when she talking to the crew and one female where there is slight eye contact but she’s sort of hiding her face.

With all other females, she’s constantly looking away, dipping her head, doing dances, clapping hands etc you don’t see her interacting and LOOKING at her guests. Now it’s just a trailer so its edited, but why would you edit all that human interaction out??

Its bizarre

I’ve never noticed that about her before. I don’t think she’s as a professional communicator as people seem to think she is.
