You must be joking.

There is not speculation at all in the press.

They are never papped.

They are never questioned.

Anything that bubbles up comes outside of the press like that Twitter hysteria last year.

The press reaction to the photo shopping was driven by the palace releasing those pictures.

The press is entirely muzzled.

They have incredible freedom.

If they have "incredible freedom", what was Harry and Meghan's problem then?!!

Some much hate against one person I'm glad I don't know you in real life.

Where did you pull the "hate" out of???!

adriftinadenofvipers · 13/01/2025 17:01

Where did you pull the "hate" out of???!

I think it's the terribly modern definition which equates to 'a mild level of disapproval based on observed actions'.

Is Britain not sovereign?

Do we have the same legal system as Denmark?

If King, Queen, Prince, Princess is not a bloodline then we can elect/place/put whomever into the role.

Think it through.

It would abolish the monarchy without abolishing the monarchy.

I suspect that our royals have sense enough to know that.

Otherwise, with the levels of antipathy against PH going around, I am sure they would have done it already.

And I suppose Edward VIII didn't step down then?!

silversellers · 13/01/2025 14:09

I hope it would be.

My point was yes I do know plenty of vile people who are filled with Meghan hatred to an obsessive degree in real life in response to @Lndnmummy saying this : I don't know anyone in real life who is like this

My (now former) friend was a nurse and if I recall correctly this was shared on her WhatsApp friends group which I know is mainly colleagues and apparently “everyone else could see the funny side” 😵‍💫 so yeah I was the problem!

Do you fall out with every friend who does something you don't approve of?

I guess you don't have many friends then.

No.

The point is the Daily Mail is the Donald Trump of newspapers, causing consternation and bullying whomever they set their sights on.

It is a nasty and dangerous institution.

Slotting PH and MM into their coverage is a click generator and a bone to many.

I don't need to "ponder" anything she said or didn't say about Meta or anything else for that matter.

All I see is two people having the courage to walk away from one of the most powerful and wealthy institutions in the UK.

I personally see that as courage.

I also see it as no longer nursing at the teet of state funded excess.

Well done them say I. 😁

"Courage" my arse!

They flounced because they didn't get their own way.

If you think that's "courage", then it's a pity of you.

Oh, and does the "no longer nursing at the teet [sic] of state funded excess" include Harry's demands for security?

And wasn't he the one crying that papa cut him off at nearly 40?

Do you think he gives a single fuck about "state funded excess"???

Don't make me laugh!

But why should he not use his title?

He was born into it and it is his by birthright.

He is, in fact, a Prince.

If you criticize your family or have a falling out does that mean you cannot use your family name, or miss or missus or any of the number of expressions used to identify someone?

If a doctor retires can he no longer use "doctor"?

If a wife divorces her husband can she no longer use his name even if the kids have it?

I don't think that stands up as an argument.

Meghan wasn't born into it. In fact she only had it for 5 minutes before she pissed off.

If a doctor is struck off, he can no longer use doctor.

Plenty of divorced women return to their maiden name.

You're comparing apples with oranges in any case.

This just shows what a bubble their LA life is.

This just shows how wrong your basic facts are.

They do not live in Los Angeles.

They live two hours away.

Would you say that someone who lives in Cheltenham is from London?

The anti free speech movement railing against the removal of censorship is the sound of confused elites who don't yet understand they've lost control.
The only "free speech" that Musk, Zuckerburg and the like want is freedom for them to say what they want - like the Hatians eating cats and dogs.

You would be an utter fool to think that this is a good thing.

Or maybe not - maybe you prefer being able to say, with the confidence of not being fact checked, that two people live in LA when they don't.

What are you actually on about???!

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/01/2025 17:47

andIsaid · 13/01/2025 13:29

If you are in favor of Royalty you should know that they cannot be stripped of their titles. The whole point of them is bloodline. If you do not have that bloodline you cannot be it.

So - Prince Harry, like it or not, cannot be un printed.

And there is now way the actual royals would want to change that.

After all, they could be next!

Born a prince always a prince.

And the royal family has to be the most dysfunctional family in Britain. Definitely awful.

Wrong, the title of Prince and HRH can be removed by the monarch, however not the Duke title that would have to be an act of parliament.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/01/2025 17:59

I’ve been away a while but it’s interesting to see that the normal timetable of clocking on remains.

I have a feeling, when Anne goes, the Kent’s, the Gloucesters and Alexandra (so a good while yet) that the titles of HRH Prince/Princess will be removed from- Andrew, Edward, Beatrice and Eugenie ….Harry, Lili and Archie by William.

They will still have their Dukedoms though.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/01/2025 18:15

I agree @Atlasvue when when William becomes King I think there will be a huge reform of titles, William himself said Royalty will be with a small r, he won’t have non working royals using their titles that only benefit the holder and not the UK, the clock is ticking for sure.

WinterCrow · 13/01/2025 18:16

Not necessarily. The legal view that I linked to earlier contends that the monarch could remove the royal dukedom title also (especially but not exclusively as it comes without lands), and Harry's monarch-gifted knighthood, and 'Prince', and 'HRH'.

Atlasvue · 13/01/2025 18:21

Isn’t that what happened in Belgium? Removed the HRH and titles of the brother and his family.

Harry will lose his mind, but it will happen altogether with the other royals, so he can’t say he’s singled out. It will happen before Archie and Lili turn 18 I would think.

Charlotte would probably get Anne’s title of Princess Royal at the same time as everyone else losing theirs.

OP posts:
Uricon2 · 13/01/2025 18:28

I think if there is a serious effort to slim down the RF making the changes to get rid of some inherited HRHs and especially Royal Dukedoms is on the cards. I've always believed that they do actually need to be opening residential homes in Nether Wapping to be really engaged on the ground, but if there are insufficient numbers of those willing to do so, the titles need not be given/used, lest they be abused.

ETA Anne a prime and great example of someone opening residential homes etc. My DH met her many times professionally and was very struck by her knowledge, interest and warmth.

What were they doing schmoozing the mayor in Pasadena then and looking at the burnt out buildings, if they live two hours away?
