Harry not honouring Tyler Perry. Why?

Way back in July, it was announced that Harry and Meghan are tribute chairs for Tyler Perry and the award he will receive at the Paley honours Gala on December 4th. See

Now we are told, even though Tyler has helped his family over the years and is his daughter’s godfather, that Harry won’t be attending the gala even though he is on the hosting committee. Instead Meghan will be on her own? See

Why? It makes no sense. I understand that their work takes them different places but this is something they are both involved in. Harry is off to a book conference that just so happens to be on the 4th December, all the way in NY.

He was a chair of the committee and he doesn’t bother to show up? That’s really poor taste, for a man that has done so much for him.

It’s also just adding unnecessary fuel to fire that all is not well with their marriage. This is an event that they should be doing together, instead Meghan will be left to the red carpet on her own. If he didn’t want to be part of it, why did he join the hosting committee, if he never intended to host?

Also, what is the book conference that he's going to instead?

I agree that Tyler Perry did a lot for both of them, and is close to them as a family. So this is the sort of event which I would have expected them both to attend, unless absolutely unavoidable that one can't go.

Yes, from the first People article it states:

So these chairs are part of the hosting committee who will pay tribute to Tyler at the Gala event on the night.

But now Harry is a no show.

Agree. Why are they going to such lengths to avoid being seen in public together, even at the expense of snubbing a man that has done so much for Harry’s family?

I don’t know if it’s a PR decision or marriage trouble, but it’s a poor show not to follow through on something you had previously committed to, for someone that is almost like a family member to the Sussexes.

I don’t understand why a book conference would suddenly be so important to Harry. His book was published nearly two years ago and made no further additions to his paperback. Doesn’t make sense

When Harry and Meghan first moved to the US. Tyler gave them one of his homes to stay and provided security for them.
He appeared in their Netflix documentary.

So he has done a lot for them. Think this is why they chose him as godparent. He is also phenomenally successful in the entertainment world and is a billionaire, so that helps

He is a billionaire, even though IMO his shows are terrible. He wanted to kiss their asses, got it.

I don't think some event run by a newspaper is part of education anywhere.
It's probably better known in the US but I bet lots of Americans haven't heard of it either.

The Dealbook event takes place every year.

The Paley award is a very prestigious award. It’s why Tyler has so many celebrities as tributes, including Harry and Meghan.

There’s no excuse for skipping out on a one time event honouring a friend, for an event that takes place annually.

Even at a push, he would be able to make the conference in NY and fly back for the evening reception in LA. If he wanted to. But clearly he doesn’t.

Reflects really badly on him.

Not being in the US, I hadn't heard of either of these events before, and have no idea where they stand reputationally. Both have big names, but from different circles.

This sets out that along with other celebrities, that Harry and Meghan are inviting the guests.

They are bothering referenced as hosts of the event, extending an invite to honour Tyler.

This simply doesn’t happen. A host doesn’t pull out for another event. Very strange

I'm not going into marriage speculation and couldn't care less about Tyler Perry, but yes - to be listed and then not turn up for anyone who's done so much for you is more than a bit odd
