Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

@username7891 Camilla is Queen Consort just as Queen Elizabeth ll mother was to the King. It's traditional to call the Queen Consort "Queen". Our late Queen made it known that it was her wish for Camilla to be known as Queen Camilla.

This reply has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.

Blimey you must be pretty over invested in her to search out and resurrect a zombie thread.

Have a glass of wine and relax.

@JewelleryCat Charlotte won't be queen unless George dies (and has no children).

Of course she won’t. My brain wasn’t working for a minute there. Then I hope she will take up Anne’s example of work and duty. I do like Anne

I believe the late Queen referred to Camilla as Queen Consort. It doesn't matter what she's called, she's still the wife of a King with no power. She becomes a Dowager upon the King's death. The title passes on to William.

smilesy · 26/03/2025 22:39

But it didn’t. So Camilla is Queen. And unless anything changes, William and Catherine will be king and queen. Just because you think the monarchy should have finished doesn’t mean it has, does it? So Camilla is Queen whether you like it or not 🤷‍♀️

Well no of course something doesn’t become true just because I say I wish it was - I understand how reality works.

the question the OP asked was “do you think of Camilla as Queen”. My answer was no, I don’t.

Guavafish1 · 27/03/2025 04:41

No

shes his bit on the side

Because King is a higher position than Queen, but Phillip had married in so was lower status than Queen Elizabeth.

I agree though that I don't think of Camilla as "The Queen", but that may be as only two years have passed since the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Well, she isn’t.

She’s the King’s wife. She may be called The Queen until Charles’ death, when she will automatically become Queen Camilla.

However, our late queen was a regnant queen and thus will always be known as The Queen.

HTH.

Lovelysummerdays · 27/03/2025 05:47

I think I default to the former queen tbh. Like most people she reigned for my entire life. Whilst I’m obviously aware she died my brain quietly goes back to lifelong status quo and then I have to do a little double take until I figure it out.

Ownedbykitties · 27/03/2025 08:10

@username7891 yes I believe our late Queen did. No one calls the Queen Consort "Queen Consort " though. She is known as Queen. Whenever there ins something about her on the news and they refer to her as "the Queen " my first thought is that it is a piece about out late Queen and then straight away I remember it's Camilla 😊. I think the King and Queen are doing a good job.

Because misogyny.

No.

CurlewKate · 27/03/2025 10:05

I think she’s as much of a freeloading waste of space as the rest of them. But I do give her a little credit because she has given some thought and time to the campaign against VAWG. I also like her clothes. Oh, and I like that she chose to have Queen’s Companions rather than Ladies in Waiting.

Apparently, just before her 70th anniversary, the Queen said, "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort".

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 27/03/2025 11:59

It was on the occasion of her 7O years Jubilee, and it was a clear statement of intent that Camilla would (rightly) be known and referred to as Queen, as the wife of the King, since she would, in fact, be Queen Consort. The late Queen didn't mean that one was required to call Camilla Queen Consort. That is not how Royal convention works. Queens Consort are always referred to as Queen/The Queen/Queen <given name>.

Serenster · 27/03/2025 12:07

Yes, the Queen was saying she thought Camilla should be styled as a Queen Consort rather than a Princess Consort when Charles was King.

She was not saying that Camilla’s title should be “The Queen Consort” rather than “The Queen”. If she was styled as Queen Consort that title follows automatically.

Yes, she was elevating her to the same status and title Diana would have had. She wasn't creating a new, lesser title.

It's not a 'lesser title', it's the title given to the wife of a king.

I know. I was saying it isn't a new title let alone a lesser one.

I didn't say either.

Apologies. Many have previously taken it that way and insisted her generally being referred to as Queen Camilla is therefore wrong. Your post made you sound like you were one of those people.

GraceUnderPresure · 27/03/2025 12:21

Nope. If someone says 'the Queen' I think of Queen Elizabeth II

TwigletsAndRadishes · 27/03/2025 12:21

Yes, because she is. It's not for me to decide who is or isn't the Queen 'in my eyes.' She's been made Queen and she's married to the King, so that's that. I don't have strong feelings about that either way.

Snorlaxo · 27/03/2025 12:23

It took me from Queen Elizabeth’s death until King Charles’ coronation to start calling Camilla the Queen because Queen Elizabeth had been the Queen my whole life. Now I refer to Camilla as the Queen and her MIL as Queen Elizabeth (too lazy to add II)

Snugglemonkey · 27/03/2025 12:28

username7891 · 09/11/2024 17:44

Wasn't it Charles who specifically asked for her to be called Queen rather than Consort?

No, no kings wife has been called queen consort as their title. It is their role, but they are just queen whoever.

The wife of a king is Queen Consort.
