Do you think as Camilla as the queen ?

Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

Marry your mistress, create a vacancy. I loathe all the free loading tw£ts; Andrew, Fergie and their progeny are particularly pointless. I wonder if I can rent an apartment in St James's Palace at a peppercorn rent? I'm sure someone will reply they're paying market price and we all know that's twaddle. Who would have thought Sophie would have come back from fake Sheik scandal? Given that she basically has to point Edward in the right direction at any public event and ensure he shakes hands with the correct person, I'm sure she's worth every penny from the public purse.

I agree with you IhateHPSDeaneCnt
and Sophie doesn’t even have to do that as Edward, given a choice, prefers not to shake hands with the hoi polloi apparently. And yes, wouldn’t it be lovely to have a grace and favour pad at KP or StJP?

And this is just my opinion, probably an unpopular one, but I think that Sophie is still wearing her PR hat very firmly on her head!

She must have known that a carefully placed “supportive” hand, resting on Catherine’s back, framed in a Whitehall window on Remembrance Sunday, would make the next day’s papers, and reflect very nicely on her?

I’m sorry to say but I found it somewhat exploitative rather than supportive,

Lots of other similar small incidents recently
since the death of Prince Philip.

Perhaps I am getting too cynical in my old age? But there’s something that seems a bit staged about it to me.

That’s not right - the law was changed (in all Realms and Dominions) wef the Perth Declaration at the CHOGM in 2011.

It took varying amounts of time for all the different legislatures to enact the declaration. But the date enshrined the Perth Declaration

No the Perth Agreement/Declaration started it in 2011 but most Treaties between different countries it needed each country to have its own law and it came into force in 2015 and they did reverse the two siblings this affected so it is complicated and what they would have done if George had been a girl is unknown you assume reverse it!

either way 2011 or 2015 is still 21st Centiry!

RancidOldHag · 03/12/2024 19:27

I agree it's still 21st century!

But the date of ratification in law in individual territories is not the date it came in to effect. That was the date of the Perth Agreement (October 2011).

You cannot pass retroactive legislation, but you can have legislation to confirm an international agreement that enters into effect from the date of the agreement (not the date of the law in any particular country/territory as that is variable and uncertain, and this required unity).

The 2015 date (when the last of the required laws was enacted) was the administrative date at which the 2 DC born in the top 50ish after October 2011 had their positions formally adjusted (because no-one CBA to do it piecemeal)

In the administrative detail, there was a further declaration (in December 2012) when all affected realms and dominions affirmed that their Parliaments had agreed to the changes (even though the draft laws had not been passed by all). That was 7 months before Prince George was born, and this declaration of parliamentary agreement (and statement of impending legislation) made it clear that the firstborn child (regardless of sex) would be heir

I keep wittering on how I loathe them. My parents were invited to numerous Royal parties and post 16 years old, I was dragged along. Strangely enough, it was always the US Ambassador and family invited for a chat - not us. Garden Parties were particularly horrible; people would respectfully stand behind the rope and just stare at us - people honoured to be under the Marquee but way lower than the Americans. Evening parties would involve standing around (no seating) before they'd emerge from secret doors. Food was rubbish (apart from Garden Party Teas) but Wine good! You wouldn't believe the state of Footmens' and other 'Servants' outfits - literally mouldering.

Dont be silly

if you're British then she is your queen regardless of whether you think she is or not.

That's how it works. Deal with it

Your rage is hilarious. Why are you so bothered?

And how does anyone still think Queen Consort means anything negative or lesser than any other King's wife has been? Diana would have been Queen Consort. Kate will be Queen Consort.

JewelleryCat · 26/03/2025 14:36

Why drag a zombie thread up to say that? Also, like other posters have said, every queen who is married to a king is a consort before they’re coronated. The only queens who were born to be in the succession were Victoria and our late queen, Elizabeth II who were regnants

There were other queens regnant in Britain: Mary I, Mary II, and Anne. Also, Mary Queen of Scots. And depending on your view of history, Mathilda, Jane Grey, and Margaret, Maid of Norway (Scotland).

Yes but I was just meaning in recent times. Aren’t they Tudor queens?

Londonrach1 · 26/03/2025 20:04

No and sadly I never will. Maybe if William and kate were king and queen but even then it seems strange...the queen was always there. The queen was the queen and that's it ..I can't see anyone else ever being a queen...I think I'm too old now. I've several 100 year old patient s who been very upset and hidden their cards.

Supersimkin7 · 26/03/2025 21:04

No. Neither is us is bothered about this.

varden · 26/03/2025 21:10

I thought there was some scandal erupting, or some bad news or something when I noticed the thread had risen from the dead.

I see Charles bought the house next door to Camilla's (out of his own our money) to prevent it being turned into a den of iniquity and nosy parkers, i.e. a hotel or something. The neighbours must be thrilled to have a queen in their midst.

Well that’s sad, but unfortunately monarchs die and get replaced. Surely people who have got to 100 remember having a king and queen (consort) in the form of King George vi and Queen Elizabeth 🤷‍♀️

DahliaBlooming · 26/03/2025 21:15

No, I don't think of her as the Queen. She's King Charles's wife.

JohnTheRevelator · 26/03/2025 21:34

I must admit whenever I see or hear the words 'the Queen',for a few seconds I think they are referring to the late Queen Elizabeth ll,not Queen Camilla. Habit of a lifetime I suppose!

She is. Which makes her the Queen. See previous kings and their wives 😆

I think we all still do a little bit because of how long she reigned. Same as thinking of Charles as still Prince of Wales when that’s now William

wordler · 26/03/2025 22:01

I’ve just started seeing Camilla in my mind’s eye when hearing a clearly current news report - “The Queen visited Bolton today” kind of report - same with Prince and Princess of Wales.

Occasionally when it’s something more vague and general I have to check.

LilacPeer · 26/03/2025 22:04

Nope, she’s not the queen in my eyes. Neither will Kate be if William makes it to the throne. The monarchy should have finished with Elizabeth.

But it didn’t. So Camilla is Queen. And unless anything changes, William and Catherine will be king and queen. Just because you think the monarchy should have finished doesn’t mean it has, does it? So Camilla is Queen whether you like it or not 🤷‍♀️

JewelleryCat · 26/03/2025 23:20

The next queen regnant will be Charlotte won’t it? I wonder what she’ll be like as queen. If there still is a monarchy then, I think she’ll be wanting to do her duty like Elizabeth II, Camilla, Kate

Needmorelego · 26/03/2025 23:39

@JewelleryCat Charlotte won't be queen unless George dies (and has no children).
