Do you think as Camilla as the queen ?

Hear me out , I have no problem with Camilla and never thought I would never see her as ( way back when ) as Charles wife when they married , my opinion, was they married and can rightly call herself as Duchess.
However , what I don't understand that when Queen Elizabeth was alive , her husband , Prince Phillip was always known as just that and never seen / addressed as King . Why is Camilla our queen when Phillip was never our king ? I'm confused .

Apparently the dog was a rescue from Battersea so I'd guess they're highlighting the work done there.

I think that's actually a pretty worthwhile cause and if it gets a few more unfortunate animals homes I can't object to it.

So if Charles does before her, there will presumably be Queen Camilla and Queen Catherine at the same time.

Notmoog · 18/11/2024 17:11

why the hell is it front page news that her dog is dead?
Christ its embarassing

Is it because a newspaper editor decided to make it front page news?

Yes and no. Formally, there will be Queen Camilla and The Queen (who will be Catherine). But Catherine will also often be referred to as Queen Catherine, especially in everyday parlance.

Camilla is older than Charles and both have had their health challenges. I would expect him to be getting the best possible treatment for his cancer, and with some - such as prostate - the survival rate is very good. So we may or may not see two queens again when William and Catherine take the reins. Maybe Camilla will embrace the Dowager title again if so. She doesn't seem particularly vain about titles. It always felt very much Charles as the one pushing for her to be queen.

caringcarer · 19/11/2024 03:13

Of course she's the Queen, she married a Prince who became King. Just like Catherine Princess of Wales will be Queen Catherine after King Charles dies. I'm not sure what Queen Camilla will be called then.

OnlyWhenILaugh · 19/11/2024 07:04

If she outlives KC she will continue to be be Queen Camilla. She would be a queen dowager . Queen Catherine will be a queen consort @caringcarer

"Perhaps if the Duchess of York had known that she would in time to come Queen and that her daughter would become Queen regnant, she might have chosen a different name for her daughter."

The Queen could have chosen one of her middle names as her regnal name, but she famously declared Elizabeth was her name so why complicate things.

We could have had Queen Alexandra. Or Mary, but the dowager Queen Mary was still alive, so could have been no less name clashy than Elizabeth.

upinaballoon · 19/11/2024 11:00

With the great benefit of hindsight we can all see that Queen Elizabeth II could have made things easier by choosing to be Queen Alexandra, but there again that could have led to a lot of letters to newspapers, from Confuseds of Tonbridge Wells, who should have been getting on with the ironing at the time, complaining that they were always getting mixed up between the queen and her cousin Alexandra.

True, but actually, she could have chosen any name. The regnal name doesn't have to be a birth name.

I can totally understand why she wanted to keep her own name, tbf.

Queen stepmother seeing as there was a queen mother would be right and high
ight stepmums existence

Where has the title of 'Consort' gone? Can it be double hyphenated with ex-mistress (creating a vacancy)? Even I agree that would be too large to create an amazing Jewel to encompass her large, accommodating, Bosoms. I loathe all the free loading twats but seeing her wear jewellery previously worn by her predecessor is vile. They have loads of tax free money; get Garrards to redesign (probably for free, kowtowing and chucking in a Tiara or two). As for two unemployed, redacted living in St James Palace with euro trash husbands . . . 'Hang on for life with teeth and claws!' mantra must have taught by their mother plus always ensure deny, deny, deny.

This has been explained so many times on this thread. She is still the Queen consort it’s just that conventionally we never use the full title. It is just to differentiate a Queen consort ( ie the wife of a king) from a Queen Regnant (ie Queen in her own right). The late Queen said that it was her wish that Camilla be Queen consort because otherwise it would have sounded like she wanted Camilla to be her heir. But don’t let your judgy attitude get in the way of the facts 🙄

My mind is still in a muddle with all the changes. I still think of Charles as Prince of Wales. When I hear Princess of Wales I automatically think Diana. Queen I still think Elizabeth the second. Same for them all really Confused

She will remain Queen Camilla (as dowager queen consort).

The Queen Mother was only called such because otherwise there would have been two living Queen Elizabeths. However the QM was technically still the dowager Queen Elizabeth.

I'm a bit like this. I have to really think about it now. Also when I heard "God Save the King" being sung. It still feels weird!

ProssecoSparkle · 28/11/2024 19:45

Same when it's God save the King it stops me and I have to think.

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 01/12/2024 09:51

Marry your mistress, create a vacancy. I loathe all the free loading tw£ts; Andrew, Fergie and their progeny are particularly pointless. I wonder if I can rent an apartment in St James's Palace at a peppercorn rent? I'm sure someone will reply they're paying market price and we all know that's twaddle. Who would have thought Sophie would have come back from fake Sheik scandal? Given that she basically has to point Edward in the right direction at any public event and ensure he shakes hands with the correct person, I'm sure she's worth every penny from the public purse.

FloofPaws · 03/12/2024 14:39

When someone says 'the queen' I keep thinking Elizabeth still, I do see Charles as king, but not really Camilla yet - Liz was queen my whole life so It'll take time I'm
Sure. Saying that I don't think I'd have thought of Diana as queen either to be honest ...

King outranks Queen, and as Philip wasn't the monarch, could not outrank his wife.

Same as Queen Victoria / Prince Albert.

Why does king outrank queen though. They are both monarch.

It's sexist.

It is sexist. It's a historical holdover from the Salic law which prevailed in most counties of Europe for centuries. Under Salic law, only men could inherit the throne and so queens in their own right were non-existent or very rare.

Notmoog · 03/12/2024 15:00

do you think they ever feel embarrassed being referred to like something from a fairy tale?
I get secondary embarrassment watching them play dressing up etc. and then when they're called princess/ king etc. the cringe really ramps up!

Well yes but if Prince George had been a girl they may not have been Queen as rule that it was the first born son was overturned in March 2015

its why Princess Anne and her children rank lower down that Andrew and Edward and why Lady Louise is after her younge brother

That’s not right - the law was changed (in all Realms and Dominions) wef the Perth Declaration at the CHOGM in 2011.

It took varying amounts of time for all the different legislatures to enact the declaration. But the date enshrined the Perth Declaration
