"Nigel Wynn wants chips for brecwast" has a permanent spot in my head. And Phyllis Doris is the name of the dog I never yet got.

"Here I am, Will, 24 hours a day, trying to think what to give you and your family for breakfast! And you, Pyllis Doris, with those massacred eyeballs..."

I saw them in Cinderella at the Swansea Grand. We were in a box and they pretended to think we were royalty and bowed to us (well Ryan curtsied, obvs).
They definititely live rent-free in my head and I don't begrudge them it at all 😀

He could list it on HeirBnb - oh wait SpareBnB!

"I don't think any royal properties are ever rented out."

It depends what you mean by royal properties. The whole Crown Estate is royal properties, but very few of them are used as royal residences. But for example, Anmer Hall was rented out for many years before being given to W&C as a wedding present; Fort Belvedere in Windsor Park which Edward VIII restored is currently rented out to an American squillionaire, etc etc etc. So places can go in and out of the "royal residences" portfolio, but there's also a vast number of properties which are rented to private (posh and/or rich) individuals - e.g. the grace and favour apartments at Hampton Court.

Catherine Zeta Jones and her husband rent an apartment in St James' Palace apparently.

So this is the 'cottage' on Tresco in the Scilly Isles where Kate and William had their holiday during the Covid years when no one was flying abroad. I think Charles and Diana also stayed their when William and Harry were little. It is available to rent but it's fairly expensive and getting to the island itself is also difficult. I'd love to go.

How do you know that’s the specific house?

Willy is evicting Pa's personals in order to let out to the hoi and charging him rent to stay in the Welsh property Pa had bought for him by the Duchy of Cornwall way back when.

Well, it made me laff 😁

I mean houses that are used by current Senior Royals, Highgrove, Sandringham, Balmoral, Anmar Hall, those sorts of places.
The places where Charles, Camilla, William and kids would actually sleep, not other smaller properties on the estates.

It was released in a press release at the time, and then some journo sourced pics of Charles, Diana, William and Harry on bikes in the grounds of the house.

It's the nicest Grade II listed home on Tresco as well so it would be weird if that wasn't the place Charles and William stay in when they go there.

The house on Tresco is an example of that. It's a vacation place they sleep in but don't 'live' there. I'm sure there's a thorough security sweep before the heir stays there though.

So going back to how this conversation started. If Harry has bought a property in Portugal as a vacation place then he could also rent it out in between using it.

StartupRepair · 19/10/2024 21:28

A friend of mine rented Charles' farmhouse in Romania for a few days. Said it was lovely and Charles' hat and walking stick were in a corner.

MissRoseDurward · 19/10/2024 22:45

You can also stay on the Castle of Mey estate and sing with the seals if you're special enough or on the Dumfries House estate. Although neither of those are Crown properties.

Just for a slight change of topic I'm posting this article from the Times about the work of
Lady Edwina Grosvenor, who has made a career out of seeking a better justice system for women.
Of note, she spent her gap year working in a jail in Kathmandu, studied criminology and sociology at university and her first job was as a support worker in a women's prison.

I would say she is a fine example of how to "show up and do good". A lifelong commitment. Studying and learning along the way. Campaigning and taking personal action, using her own wealth as well as getting support via her extensive contacts to build an actual (wonderful sounding) centre to prove how the system can do better with the hope to roll out similar centres around the country and change the system.

No, apparently lots of A listers have bought properties in Portugal 🤷‍♀️

Portugal is/was known for having a very generous tax regime for high earners. I suspect that, as much as the joys of the Portuguese lifestyle, may have been the main attraction for said A listers.

However, you'd presumably have to be tax resident in Portugal to enjoy that benefit, and even if the rumours about the house purchase are true, I can't see Meghan wanting to be based anywhere other than California.
