Just looking at the photos of Harry in Lesotho . Don’t know when I last saw him looking so relaxed and happy .
Nice to see.

If this is true I assume Eugenie is just keeping out of the drama and getting on with everyone (and her life).

Mylovelygreendress · 18/10/2024 14:25

I really cannot see Meghan wanting to spend time in Portugal . The Caribbean is more her scene .
Is it only the U.K. where H and M are unsafe ?

Maybe it's a compromise? The sun of California in Europe.

The un-safe in the UK is a load of nonsense.
I can't see Meghan wanting to have time in Portugal either. I'm convinced it's a place for him and possibly kids rather than her.

He means sustainable travel for the rest of us, or preferably no travel as why should any of us ever need to go anywhere? Its simply not necessary.

It's different for people like him obviously, his travel is imperative for safety and also to spread his powerful messages and activism around the planet. His work is so important and makes such a difference. I for one would support his private jets from California to Portugal because I know hes doing it for children's mental health and for Africa.

Powerful messages and activism? I missed those messages, and wasn't aware of much activism either, unless you mean activating the dollars.

I think the poster is being sarcastic 😆

H may need a base outside of the Uk if M doesn't let him bring the DC to the UK. Being close to Eugenie would be convenient too I guess.

Twistybranch · 18/10/2024 15:16

I honestly don’t think they have the funds to keep another home abroad. Not so much the cost of the home, more that they ‘think’ they would need to keep a security presence at the home all year round.
Remember Harry believes tabloids have bugged his accommodation before, issues with drones etc

There no way he would settle for security just from the Golf resort. So requiring someone to be on duty 24/7. That’s hundreds of thousands a year.

We all know he doesn’t need this level of protection but he believes it

Archie was George's secret service code name. Lilibet wasn't the first name they nicked.

OMG, was it? That's terrible.

I just can't see Portugal being glamorous enough for them, if they were looking for a summer home in Europe, so I do wonder how much truth is in it, not many famous people to rub shoulders with, plus the language would be quite a barrier in Portugal.

Cote D'Azur I could see, it's a very glamorous lifestyle, F1, Cannes film festival, celeb galas, world famous restaurants. Plenty of celebs and high profile people own homes there, really strict privacy laws in France too. The Clooney's have apparently made a permanent move to the South of France, I think Elton lives most of the year there, during the summer months all the billionaires come and park their superyachts and entertain and of course lots of Russian oligarchs too.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 18/10/2024 15:55

As someone who has posted on social media for years, on anonymous fora (like mumsnet), I realise that there's a risk my children could read what I've written about them years later and be hurt or offended or really angry. And that's why I post anonymously and don't use their real names etc.

I think "Spare (us)" is going to come back and bite Harry on the ass (to use an Americanism) when his kids are older. Who wants to read about how your father lost his virginity or fought with his brother over a sausage?

I think there's a real risk his kids will also be furious that they were denied access to their UK family and to a royal life. Although, who knows, maybe they'll get some semblance of one if Harry and Meg split and he brings them to the UK.

ThePoshUns · 18/10/2024 15:59

Maybe Harry is investing in assets outside the USA where Meghan would have no claim on them?

Harry is very close to his cousins, it also gives him the opportunity to weasel back in to the London scene. I think they have exhausted all options in the US and do not have the finances to bank roll a lost decade. A half in and half out could work from Portugal…..2 hour flight. Cheaper lifestyle.

Savingthehedgehogs · 18/10/2024 16:01

I also wonder if Harry has been advised he will be booted out of the US. Trump has made it clear that is what he intends to do if voted in.

That sounds entirely sensible - to have a back-up plan. And entirely uncharacteristic for H or M!

I'm quite interested to know what level of security all his cousins feel the need for? Do the York girls, Zara etc all have 24/7 security?
I also wonder if it feels emasculating for a man to be so cosseted by security all the time. The men I know would like to feel they could protect their own family, not hide behind security. I know it is different for royals and there have been kidnapping threats etc over the years. I just wonder because Harry comes across angry often and I know there is a link between male pent up rage/aggression and feeling powerless.

I wondered about that too being an option, is he investing so it's out of her grasp.

There are more questions than answers. It certainly doesn't strike me as just the perfect holiday home.

SqueakyDinosaur · 18/10/2024 16:11

Not through the public purse they don't. Typically, Anne never wanted security or titles for her kids: equally typically, Andrew demanded security for his, and kicked off massively when it was removed about 10 years ago during their falling-out-of-nightclubs phase.

I think if they are representing the RF then security would be part of the package, but AFAIK that is only at e.g. this summer the BP garden parties, and BP is already a secure site.

Especially as they insisted on Prince and Princess titles and try to live as grandly as possible and do all the faux royal tours. They gambled and it hasn't paid off, now they've got to try and piece a credible life together from scratch because there's no way that the current status quo is what they want to maintain.

Yes and weren't the Heritage foundation calling for an investigation as to whether he received preferential treatment with regards to his immigration papers? I know after he listed all the different drugs he has been into, it was said by the foundation that he should be reassessed by homeland security. They've definitely been rejected by the US political scene across the board, which I think was the opposite of what they expected.

No, apparently lots of A listers have bought properties in Portugal 🤷‍♀️

BasiliskStare · 18/10/2024 16:46

Well I think the idea of a holiday home in Portugal is at the moment a rumour . I am sure he could afford one nd being near cousins would be nice - but how much it would cost - don't know. I think he said in an interview one the money he inherited from his mother was being put to one side for A & L . Of course the man is very very rich but he & M don't seem to (me) realise when enough is enough and are trying to be too extravagent with Montecito and the security they want.

The photo of him at the back of the lift & also during the Bradbury interview ( not sure if this thread or elsewhere -) and other comments I do think his close set eyes and his increasing Rory McGrath appearance just don't work for having a cheerful demeanour - but jut one view

Uricon2 · 18/10/2024 16:56

I cannot imagine how much their security is costing. There must be enough bodies to provide 2 teams unless Harry takes them with him when off gallivanting and leaves Meghan and the kids "unprotected".
