What to make of the fact that he appeared without Meghan and looked quite anxious and stressed?

Charles shouldn’t be making comments like that too. His job is to shut up and entertain who he’s told to.

He didn’t. He wrote it in his private diary which was copied and given to the Mail without his permission.

What a vile thing to do.

CathyorClaire · 28/09/2024 20:57

Catching up as always but Harold now seems to have visited some NY tat parlour in a bid to promote tat some as yet unspecified interest of his own.

Visit apparently facilitated by roaring security courtesy of the NY public.

Now scamming costs both sides of the pond 😎

Harry did openly express his disappointment that the half in and half out wasn’t facilitated by his family. At a speech he made in February 2020 for example:

What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you. Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible”.

The weirdest aspect of the whole saga is the sudden change in story.

At the engagement the royals were the family Meghan had never had and Catherine and William were so welcoming etc

Then the moment they hit Canada the royals are racist and unfeeling and cold to Meghan.

The moment they left and tried to change the story they lacked credibility.

I don't understand how people who claim to disapprove of royalty, support Harry. He is royal, but does no official royal work, and just uses his title for self promotion and money making. Surely that's worse? I don't get it.

I entirely agree.

All of them cut from the same venal cloth. In the case of Henry the apple hasn't dropped far from the tree.

He demeans the matron sexually. Describing her (in his eyes, lack of) hotness, cruelly talking about her physical appearance, sad eyes, greasy hair, curved back. And you think that's ok? He's a prince. He may have been a child, but he had disproportionate power even then (as all the children of the powerful do over lowly staff); and he had the power and adult brain not to write such filthy trash now. But write it he did.

I have read Spare. AN Wilson described it as akin to Mein Kampf, beautifully written (thanks to the ghost writer, JR Moehringer), but that he put it down with utter disgust. I can see what he means.

Wait - Spare in now being compared to Mein KampF?

Wow.

wordler · 28/09/2024 21:19

yesmen · 28/09/2024 12:34

But the whole point of the monarchy is that it is bloodline.

He cannot 'hand back' his title of prince. He is born that.

If you accpet the monarchy you must accept that.

Otherwise we would be in the (wonderful) position of being able to choose the bastards.

He can stop using the title at any time. Both of Edwards children are also titled Prince and Princess because they are born to a son of a monarch but they / their parents have chosen not to use those titles.

They’d be better off picking a lane and sticking to it. She wants all the glam and glitter of Hollywood (that she thought she’d get in the RF) so maybe she should just stick to trying to be a part of that in whatever shape that takes and stop pretending to give a shit about anything else. He can do his ‘good works’, they work separately and keep their marriage together with no conflict of interests. So, no Invictus Games and the like for her, and no Jimmy Fallon type nonsense for him.

This would surely work and it makes sense. Perhaps that’s what they’re working towards at the moment. Certainly they don’t work as a double act anymore. He looks like a miserable hostage and she looks totally fake.

It’s whatever suits their narrative at the time. Truth doesn’t come into it.

She's relying heavily on Invictus Games, though. That's about 90% of what she does. The clothes, the handbags - it's her opportunity for quasi royal overseas tours with a bit of merching.

Bontonbonbon · 28/09/2024 22:46

The Canadian government have a good point. Surely having her there (in what must be a private capacity) creates extra costs that need to be met by limited funds.

But every time she’s there it damages her reputation just that bit more. She never comes out of it looking good.

The thing is....she must think she does.
They must think they are successful royals, doing tours and getting the special treatment.
They get the headlines, which they want.

I know you were referring to Invictus, BunnyLake, but sadly the same could be said about nearly all her appearances. As George Burns once said “The key to success is sincerity. If you can fake that that you've got it made”, but she can't even manage that

Unfortunately though, as with other inadequate people, her self regard seems to rely on being seen and admired, and I'm simply not getting how she'd be content with the attention moving to Harry instead, when her constant MO has been to grab his limelight at every opportunity

Of course there could be other perfectly valid reasons for her staying away for a while; we simply can't know, but doubtless it'll all come out in the wash in time

Interesting there’s been no pap walks in car parks, especially while Harry’s been getting a lot of attention. If this very bad publicity has genuinely hurt her (and scared her) she needs to take stock and listen for a change. She’s always going on about people being listened to but it seems it just means people listening to her. If she has any sense (debatable) she’ll seek genuine opinions and advice and listen to them. If she doesn’t then she’ll just keep sinking lower and either Harry will stick with her and they fall together or he’ll start rebuilding his own path away from her (professional and/or personally). I still think he’s more douche than Duke though.

Agree with all of that, BunnyLake, though there's still time for silly attention seeking stunts while Harry's away. Especially agree that the key to any change has to start with listening and (to quote Meghan herself) being that change.
Whether she's capable of that seems open to doubt, but as ever time will tell

All we actually know for now is that their MO seems to have swung through 180 degrees, and that despite previous blasting on about their approach to life they've chosen to say nothing about this
That's absolutely their right of course, but it certainly makes for interesting watching

Alectoishome · 29/09/2024 14:46

I've just watched a clip of him on Jimmy Fallon's haunted house thing (I had never heard of JF before now). It just seems so odd. I fail to see how making a spectacle of himself in this way could have seemed like a good idea to him? They seem to be flailing in the dark in terms of what direction to take now.

Uricon2 · 29/09/2024 14:59

Trouble is, all their charitable work (especially the anti bullying stuff) is compromised and contaminated by the allegations of (er) bullying. Their finances around eg Archewell are less than transparent and the fact things are done differently in the US doesn't excuse the murkiness, especially in the UK where charity regulation is so tight. The glacial movement of their commercial enterprises (ARO, Netflix) will hardly have people rushing to sign them or collaborate.

It feels like a bit of a perfect storm really and things like the silly stunt at Jummy Fallon's haunted house look pathetic and desperate rather than fun.

Thedom · 29/09/2024 15:44

This extra segment of the interview they did with Jane Pauley has been released, their body language is unreal, Harry looks uncomfortable or disinterested and Meghan looks like she wants to rip Jane Pauley a new one.

That’s uncomfortable to watch.
Harry starts fidgeting (because why???) the claw lands on Harry’s knee to signal ‘I’ll deal with this’ which she did in her usual fashion of rictus grin and fluff-ery.

Would like to see the Behaviour Panel’s take on that segment.😁

Yes his gripe is with the tabloids.
But William seems to have got a better balance with the tabloids than their parents managed with them. We don't see photoshoots of the current Wales kids on casual days out or holidays.

That’s because the paparazzi was incredibly intrusive in the past. Current agreements made in the wake of Diana’s death between the press and the RF didn’t exist when William and Harry were small.

Yes, it is uncomfortable. I was thinking the same about the behaviour panel.
