Meghans trademark not allowed

The patent office apparently has turned down the trademark of Meghans new jam making business American Riviera Orchard on the grounds that you can't trademark geographical locations. You would have thought somebody would have picked up on this before now.

"Intentionality" sounds like a Bushism.

Whatever your opinion of George W Bush, although he wasn't the best at getting his words out, he was always mangling words whilst trying to make a specific point, not just waffling.

I really didn’t think you’d slighted the beckhams nor would I care if you did, you are genuinely misinterpreting. I am also not looking to fight or argue with people on line, that’s not my bag, so please move on.

Well you’ve been quite argumentative in some of your responses to a few of us on this thread, However please stop quoting me as I’m more than happy to “move on” 🙄.

JaneJeffer · 09/09/2024 12:33

But she does look very happy with a microphone in her hand - clearly that brings her joy.

The Tom Bower book on The Beckhams is very interesting - they are master manipulators of the press and have been for a very long time.

I agree that David still wants his knighthood (despite calling the committee “useless cunts” 😂) and completely get why they are staying well away from the Montecito Grifters

Ugh, coupled with the authoritarian desire to curtail free speech (which both the Democrats and Sussexes advocate for), the evocation of "joy" as a political campaign or social is not a joyful in any way whatsoever - quite the opposite and pretty sinister.

#BeJoyful (or else).

BunnyLake · 09/09/2024 14:13

Viviennemary · 08/09/2024 22:18

This joy nonsense is a bit crass coming on the day before the anniversary of the Queens death.

She doesn’t believe all this joy nonsense. It’s just another buzzword she can use. Her conversations (if you can call them that) are tediously littered with repetitive buzzwords. And of course she won’t have given the late Queen a second thought.

William trademark wasnt allowed too. I dont see the bigdeal here.

Americanpseudoroyaltorture · 09/09/2024 14:43

OMG! Has Meghan tried to trademark William too? Is that how she's going to get him all to herself?!

In itself, having a trademark application rejected is not a big deal.

But whoever heard of 'launching' a brand with zero products to sell? And without even having the name trademarked? And the application was refused on multiple grounds, so it's going to be months at least before 'ARO' or whatever it might be called, materialises. Personally, I suspect it never will.

And I'm not sure what 'William trademark' is, but it's hardly relevant as I do not believe he is trying to set up a lifestyle brand.

Can you imagine if William had married Megan. 😱

What trademark. Can you link? The only trademark I know he listed was for a charitable race?

I think you haven’t understood. Megan’s trademark is for a commercial venture. Not a charity. The name is American riviera orchard. The words American riviera are not allowed and never will be. As such she cannot use this brand. And she’s no products anyway,

she either names it something else , and starts again, or she uses it anyway, knowing within five seconds it can be ripped off by every Tom dick and harry. Who can sell knock off American riviera jam for a fiver and there is nothing she could do about that. No one, ie Netflix will touch it.

this rejection is enormous. It killed the brand . You cannot trademark a geography. It isn’t your property, and that’s what she tried to do. There is no way round it. It is dead.

BemusedAmerican · 09/09/2024 15:01

The Harris campaign is using "joyful" as a buzzword in their campaign as a way to describe Harris.
Meghan's PR people are copying it, the same way thei keep copying the terms " quiet luxury" and that demure line from TikTok.

She has obviously recruited interns enrolled in Marketing 101.

Edited for typo

Terrible choice with names - including the absolutely disgraceful use of Lilibet .... glaringly chosen for trying to cozy up to the queen, particularly bad and thoughtless choice considering their treachery towards the Firm 'we don't have a problem with the queen just the firm and the family' except QE2 was head of all of that ... tone deaf and blind 🤡🤡

More like they can tell her what to do ‘come here lillibet, sit here be good’ etc.

Yes I have it on audio and in fairness the Beckhams are absolute masters in PR. They are very money oriented and will always protect their brand above everything.
They have had some bad times and had periods where they have not been popular at all. However they have continued to work hard and listen to their PR people and move on.
H&M could learn a thing or two from them.

ThePoshUns · 09/09/2024 15:32

Slightly off topic but it’s just been announced that Sarah Burton has left Alexander McQueen and joined Givenchy as their creative director. This will be interesting as Sarah Burton designed Catherine’s wedding dress and has designed her many times since. If Catherine chooses to wear Givenchy due to this, she’s going to get even more hate from the squad. Meghan was seen out for lunch with Givenchy’s former creative director not long ago and has also worn Givenchy many times since her wedding.

Vabenejulio · 09/09/2024 15:57

I think it's noteworthy that Meghan is getting press for solo, or near-solo events now. These things are how she's building a singular presence, off the back of which she could make a living post-Harry, if there is a post-Harry.

Doing this on the eve of the 2nd anniversary of QE2's passing (not a noteworthy date impo, but if you're married to her self-professed favourite grandson who's probably home deep in reflection, it's certainly making a point) is a demonstration of how little Meghan cares for the RF. She wants nothing further to do with it, unless it's on her terms and to her benefit. Which is fine (wouldn't we all!). The RF can look after themselves, and she's doing the same.

The trouble for her is that the only interest she is of to the public is the royal connection. She will always have that, now that she's secured Prince/Princess monikers (they're not titles in the US, which doesn't have titles) for her children. Even if she wants to she won't ever be able to shake off that connection. That's literally all she's of general interest for: being married to Harry and mother to his children. Awkward when you want to be known in your own right.

Which means her whole future has to be about milking for $$$$ something she openly disdains and wants to leave in her past. She's unable to organise a piss up in a brewery, as evidenced by the ARO fiasco/podcast/fucking grifters/cooking show failure/pointless touring non-successes/etc. She's in the British media because while she's married to Harry it's easy to take a pop at her for all her failings, and she's hardly in the American press. There's really nothing else she can make money from.

She's an oddity. She hasn't been able to make a home for herself anywhere and in her 40s she's still searching. Hence all the oversharing about joy and peace and calm and sitting in her truth etc. She's a woman tied to a past she wants to leave behind, looking for a future she can't make happen.

SqueakyDinosaur · 09/09/2024 16:08

Meghan is definitely the brains of the couple, and it probably makes sense for her to build her independent profile on the back of Harry's, because she is going to be the one who has the best chance of making money, out of the two of them.

Possibly she's realised, or possible she always knew, that H simply hasn't got the brains or upbringing to make money - if you grow up with literally everything being done for you, then it must be really, really hard to even understand the concept, let alone put it into practice.

I don't think she's gone about things very intelligently, but that's a separate issue. Literally all H has to sell is his status and his consequent upbringing, so the onus will always be on her to supply the revenue stream, and, given that she had largely made her own way in life as an adult, she's far better equipped to do it.

IcedPurple · 09/09/2024 16:10

Which means her whole future has to be about milking for $$$$ something she openly disdains and wants to leave in her past.

She disdains royalty and wants to leave it in her past so badly that she insists on the 'Duchess' title wherever she goes, accepted royal titles for her children and launched a pointless, empty 'Office of the Duke and Duchess' website.

MummyJ12 · 09/09/2024 16:18

Apparently she isn’t happy with Samantha Markle’s legal counsel for omitting to use her Duchess of Sussex title when referring to her @IcedPurple.
Let’s not forget the monogrammed doormat and headed stationery with coronet!! 😂

With all of this peace and joy nonsense, it’s like she’s campaigning for Christmas.

IcedPurple · 09/09/2024 16:20

I'm not sure. Harry will always be a prince and the son of a King and the sainted Lady Di. Meghan really is only known as his wife, and she was only a working royal for about 5 minutes. Take away that, and she's just another minor cable TV actress in her 40s.

The past 4 years don't suggest that she's competent in business. Her podcast flopped and Spotify dumped them. Other than the NF 'documentary', which was a hit because it involved royal gossip, she's produced nothing there either. The ARO 'launch' has been a complete shambles. She was good at hustling in the relative backwater that is Toronto, but has shown herself completely out of her depth when playing at a higher level.

Glad to see Catherine has finished her chemo

but the video announcement…..a bit too John Lewis advert vibes my liking.

Breaking news even on American media outlets

guessing Megan will have to dial down her PR this week.

I get what you mean, although I actually love it, not least because I'm convinced they're trolling M&H. All that was missing was 2 fingers to camera accompanied by "Take that, you basic, inept, clueless failures" Grin
