Meghans trademark not allowed

The patent office apparently has turned down the trademark of Meghans new jam making business American Riviera Orchard on the grounds that you can't trademark geographical locations. You would have thought somebody would have picked up on this before now.

Solves the problem of ARO being a damp squib. They can blame the judge rather than their failure to execute any plan whatsoever

I hadn't thought of it that way, but now you've mentioned this it makes perfect sense

Americanpseudoroyaltorture · 03/09/2024 22:12

One of her oldest and best friends, mother of her 2 goddaughters (who were her bridesmaids), the woman who sat next to Doria at the wedding, is a US intellectual property attorney and brand development consultant. Benita Litt is her name. Why didn't Meghan ask her for help?

This was the very first thing I thought when I read the story this afternoon.

Americanpseudoroyaltorture · 03/09/2024 22:16

So do you think it's strategic incompetence then, these failures to launch? Keeps everyone talking about them, but they never actually have to progress anything.

I have a theory that the whole Markles at war thing is totally manufactured; and that the Samantha Markle defamation lawsuit (which was utterly doomed to fail) was actually a strategically incompetently pleaded case, to keep up the appearance of a feud without having to go to trial.

Thedom · 03/09/2024 22:16

If you believed in Karma, you would say it's coming back at them in bucketloads.

angstypant · 03/09/2024 22:17

Nearly 50% of applications are rejected and need work.

There is nothing peculiar here. You may not like the woman but find actual issues to beat her with. Otherwise you risk looking bitchy

It is a bit peculiar though

How many of those applications have the same access to the level of support, advice, consultants and expertise that ARO has?

Americanpseudoroyaltorture · 03/09/2024 22:36

Surely someone who can afford the best attorneys money can buy should be in the other 50% that succeed. It's filing correct paperwork and correct fees and knowing basic rules of what can and can't be patented. Surely not beyond the abilities of a high end, high fee, specialist law firm.

I'm that fool! I tried to make it once .... it was as hard as marble!

Goodness knows what I did wrong. The kids smashed it to pieces and sucked the bits like a boiled sweet!

You boiled it for too long!

Portakalkedi · 03/09/2024 22:44

What a pair of thickos. I'm not rich or remotely business savvy, but even I would check to make sure my company name was properly registered etc BEFORE announcing it to the world. Still, they'll blame it on someone else. Why don't they just feck off and live in the privacy they claim to want. Media should stop giving them any attention.

EigerTheTiger · 03/09/2024 22:50

loooooolllll this has made my day. What a prize pair of fools they are. Process or not, who launches a massive brand without a trademark approval???

WinnieTheW0rm · 03/09/2024 22:52

Well she's got 3 months to sort it out and respond.

She could still get it going for early next year, but she'll miss out on Christmas sales (and people don't spend so readily in the early months of the year).

Wonder what this delay might mean for the Netflix series? IIRC (from another thread) it wasn't on their list of shows launching Sept-Dec (and no progress mentioned about it), so it might not make a material difference.

The request for more detailed descriptions of items might be tricky, other than for those already commissioned

This could well turn out to be another hiccup, but it's not reputation enhancing to be dogged by snafus

They really are the gift that keeps giving

maybe South Park will do a worldwide privacy tour 2

NeverMindTheBackProblems · 03/09/2024 23:19

Hasn't she already started using it?

I don't understand it either, who on earth is advising her (no one obviously) , she's done everything arse about face, launched a company with nothing to actually sell, named it before checking the name can be trademarked , what an absolute dogs dinner !

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 03/09/2024 23:57

So does that mean people can start selling items under American Orchard Riviera and she can’t do anything to stop it until the trademark is finally approved?

Blink282 · 04/09/2024 00:11

Jam? As in… JAM?

Christ, she’ll be selling Poonique by Easter.

Meghans trademark not allowed

The thing is I don’t think she takes advice. She doesn’t need to because being whip-smart she knows everything.

The media gives them attention because of the people on this thread who are obsessed with her. There is a thread about her almost every day!

BemusedAmerican · 04/09/2024 02:38

The Sussex Squad tried to bully a small family-owned jam company that joked about Meghan's to the point where YELP had to intervene to get rid of the bogus ratings. Then they went after High Grove jam.

So I'm not feeling sympathetic.

If only someone on her team had had a freakish eye for detail …

Even if they did she probably wouldn't have listened. That's their trouble all along. They don't listen to the experts. They know better.

Not the hundreds of thousands that they are paying in PR to be talked about, has nothing to do with that? The media they hire to follow them around and gush about them.
