Meghans trademark not allowed

The patent office apparently has turned down the trademark of Meghans new jam making business American Riviera Orchard on the grounds that you can't trademark geographical locations. You would have thought somebody would have picked up on this before now.

Skims fits better with the brand aesthetic .

Meghan should definitely rebrand the whole concept , Name and logo are a big part of any brand,.
Long, mouthful, meaningless names and bland colours always underperform.
simple observation , Bonne Maman is thought of as a fancier option compared to other mass produced jams , The packaging gives both a homemade and artisanal small batch feel, but its not!

What was that someone was saying the other day about a new script?

You don't get a lucrative divorce settlement and opportunities for a very high profile glorified Kiss and Tell by just being a girlfriend.

And you don't have the cachet of being a royal wife with a royal wedding, royal tours, children being Prince and Princess etc etc. Being a royal wife, even on the outside, brings massive privilege that being just a girlfriend doesn't. And you can leave whenever you want.

Edited

Well her cachet is pretty much in the bin if you ask me.

Ohpleeeease · 06/09/2024 19:24

Despite the somewhat hysterical tone of the super fans posting here, her supporters are no use to her because they are not people with money. They can “Go Team Sussex” all they like, but unless they have serious cash to spend it means nothing.

My thoughts too. These fans are not going to have the kind of spending power she needs to make her millions. A lot of them even have to be paid.

IsoldeWagner · 06/09/2024 19:32

No, she doesn't have any sort of following apart from that strange Sussex Squad and some fangirls and boys, who probably don't have the impact or spending power required.

LaMarschallin · 06/09/2024 19:37

Ohpleeeease

Exactly that.

Even if, as predicted
Those who wish her well, have goodwill towards her and are her target market will no doubt buy.

So, the people who like her will buy stuff because they wish her well.
I'm not sure how many that is, but I doubt it would be enough to basically crowd-fund Meghan to adequately maintain the standard of living she'd like.

Uricon2 · 06/09/2024 19:38

Tell you something @Septemberbluesagain . Harry and Meghan would be well advised to listen to some critical thoughts, both about their behaviour and their business models, because the whole Emperor's new clothes positivity of "Team Sussex" is doing nothing good for them.

They won't though.

So true. There's a reason they are always looking for "dupes" on the fashion threads and not the real items. Buying dupes of Meghan's choices isn't making Meghan or her sponsors any money.

IsoldeWagner · 06/09/2024 20:36

True, they're often on here recommending dupes from Next or Accessorize. No profit there.

StartupRepair · 07/09/2024 00:00

I don't understand why they didn't just pay a good lawyer to make it all magically happen. This is so amateurish, makes me think Harry will be stirring the jam out in the garage.
I really dislked Ms recent statement that while everyone else mindlessly googles she is searching for companies to invest in. She really isn't as savvy as she likes to think.

thecrossIambearing · 07/09/2024 00:23

Gee whizz it's all a bit of a mess isn't it?

Agree she is nowhere near the following of Kim K and her sisters. Meghan's audience is random, scattered and not the target for expensive jars of jam or her expensive clothes.

Basically they’re just clueless.

It would be so much easier if they lived within their means, in a nice but relatively normal property, got rid of the over the top security detail, enjoyed their life doing things that interested them without trying to be super stars.

But the problem is M wants to be a super star, H doesn’t seem to know what he wants and their lifestyle is costing mega bucks that is a beast that has to be fed.

God only knows what they both really think privately of the position they’re in and how it’s honestly going to pan out for the future.

The problem being that M can relate back to her previous career and life and see her side, but when H does the same surely he can see how much he’s lost in the process (albeit gaining a family) but he’s used to ongoing wealth, not having to deal with day to day admin, staff handling tricky situations, a wide supportive family and being fairly cocooned within an establishment working exclusively for the royal family. It’s just a world away from the position he’s in now.

AutumnCrow · 07/09/2024 03:28

Crikey, how about this for a contrast? (Selena Gomez.) I’m not a fan of the mass consumerism involved but as an academic exercise, you could argue that this is what modern success looks like and that it had to have involved talent, hard work and properly utilising professional advisors. And setting a ‘popular price point’.

Also to a large extent the principal becomes the product with ranges of goods, and neither M nor H will fully do that. They would see it as a social climb down in their self-created existences as globally global philanthropists; and frankly, they have become, to increasing numbers of people, unrelatable, so nobody’s going to be buying their crap anyway whether it’s food or mental health guidance.

They’re stuck in a dichotomy.

So how they think they’re going to make significant money flogging stuff I really don’t know.

God it’s insufferable, she really thinks there’s nothing she isn’t an expert at. Cooking, investing, mental health, brand design, digital health, authoring children’s books… and here’s the thing, she’s awful at all of them.

The ARO logo, name, trademark, jam bombing… it all screams amateur, especially the name and logo, what a mess

It’s extraordinary how she thinks she’s just great and amazing and the best at everything. There is not a humble bone in her body, and yet the reality is she is extremely mediocre. I can’t think of the last time I saw someone with so much ego and so little ability.

Yes you sometimes have to look at the pair like some kind of Laurel & Hardy or Abbot & Costello or more appropriately Dumb & Dumber. A real life movie of two bumbling fools trying to make it in Hollywood and failing miserably, coming to a theatre near you. Lots of laughs to be had, bring your popcorn. And plenty of sequels to look forward to too.

IsoldeWagner · 07/09/2024 07:48

I just keep thinking - surely no-one is so unaware/self obsessed/ greedy/dishonest/ etc etc, then they just confirm it all over again.

WinnieTheW0rm · 07/09/2024 07:56

I can remember a report ages ago of the Princess Royal effusively describing MM as someone with a great deal to say on a great many subjects

This is from the Mail's US / showbizzy office. If true, it seems less problematic than the name issues.

The swirly logo is a mess, it is obviously meant to look like a Royal Crest but it is just a mess.

The article does detail all the other issues with the patent application which are many.

Also the article mentions the revolving door of staff and how H & M are difficult to work for, I am sure they are as they seem incapable of listening to and taking advice from people far more qualified than they are. They will soon, if it is not happening already, find it hard to find people prepared to work for them or with them.

What an embarrassing circus.
