Harry in UK for funeral

Viviennemary · 30/08/2024 10:18

DM is reporting Harry came to the UK for the funeral of his uncle Robert Fellowes. The husband of Diana's sister Lady Jane. Apparently they kept their distance from each other and didn't speak. Looks like William has the Windsor habit of bearing grudges. Don't blame him in this case.

To be fair, Meghan made the comparison that she had it worse than Kate in the Oprah interview. She dismissed the misogyny aimed at Kate as just "mean". They also misrepresented the "British media racist headlines" so badly that ITV had to remove them for legal reasons. If there is anyone trying to reinvent history, it's H&M.

I have googled.

Still can't find anything.

Danny Baker was sacked, the blackamoor broach condemned.

So this idea of a relentless barrage of racism seems to have no evidence behind it.

Crikey that was a quick google 😂
Impressed lol

Baital · 31/08/2024 14:10

Well, that's the beauty of Google!

However, this argument has been used so many times, it isn't the first time I have wondered what the racist attacks were, given I didn't see them at the time.

And no-one claiming endless racist attacks has been able to provide any other examples, as you haven't.

BeachParty · 31/08/2024 14:14

Well, that's the beauty of Google!

Three minutes (and that includes the time you took writing a commenting post back)
Proper looking there lol.
That kind of looking my kids do if I ask them to find something 😁
Quick lift up of something "nope, not there, can't find it, it's nowhere" 🙄😂

it isn't the first time I have wondered what the racist attacks were, given I didn't see them at the time

Why does that not surprise me in the slightest.

smilesy · 31/08/2024 14:16

I don't think I've said that?! I don't think one person has suffered more than others, I even said it's not a competition.
They've all suffered.

Racism is digusting of course. However, so is misogyny. By highlighting what Meghan endured and comparing it to Kate, you seem to be making it a competition between the two 🤷‍♀️

JADS · 31/08/2024 14:17

@Pineapplesandthegovernmentandpunkrock

Thank you for the timeline. I had somehow missed that Robert Fellowes died on 29th July. Plenty of time for RAVEC to be notified. If they knew, the Palace would have known too.

Why anyone gives a damn about any member of the RF and relatives is just so beyond me.

And yes I caught the thread title and had to see how many posts it would take for the vitriol to surface from those with nothing better to do.

With all due respects you are on mumsnet, which is the epitome of ‘having nothing better to do’

Baital · 31/08/2024 14:18

Still no examples to.offer?

That would be more convincing than attacking me.

I have Googled in the past, and found nothing.

As a WOC I am tuned in to racism, so do tend to notice dog whistles.

As I said, please do provide examples beyond the three that are always raised. If they were the tip.of the iceberg it should be easy for you!

Glad someone's mentioning the racism.
Saw the comment along the lines of "She didn't have to put up with harassment as much as Fergie etc"and thought 🙄
One, it's not a competition, and two, they all didn't have racism to contend with as well.
The blackamoor brooch at dinner, the disgusting chimp leaving the hospital photo 😡, "Straight outta Compton" headlines, just a few high profile incidences off the top of my head.

Why is "Straight outta Compton" inherently racist? It's a black suburb of LA that produced the Williams sisters, not to mention other black superstars. Why wouldn't you be proud to have come from a reputedly tough/poor neighbourhood to end up world famous? Why wouldn't you be super proud of your roots, the people who had brought you up to do well and what you had achieved? And if Meghan wasn't from there (and the article makes it very clear she's not from there, but that her mum lived a few miles away), why is it insulting? Why would you take offence rather than just correcting it? How is taking offence at a Compton upbringing not offensive to those that did have one? How is that not racist?

There's a gazillion articles about her middle class, privileged upbringing with her father and expensive private schooling, the time spent on TV sets with her father etc etc. Why was that particular DM article focussed on quite so much?

SilkFloss · 31/08/2024 14:27

The Danny Baker, Compton and the Blackamoor brooch incidents were (rightly) lambasted everywhere. People were horrified and if anything, the backlash showed that Britain is not a racist country. Danny Baker was cancelled immediately and to my knowledge has made no comeback since.

So much to enjoy in that post but these are my absolute favourite moments:

Exactly.

Christ Britain is very much a racist country.
And Camilla has a blackamoor statue in her house. Anyone remember how she treated that tiny black girl when she lifted her arm up like she was an object and not a real live person?

Wasn’t the video clip selectively edited though?

I saw on x that harry didn't speak with William and was disappointed. I think he is beginning to realise that this genuinely maybe the end of his relationship with his brother. ( I'm sure he assumed it would they would eventually make up at some stage) . That must be a hard realisation for him particularly while William is close to Kate's family and the Tindals so won't feel the lack as much where Harry just has his wife and kids but no biological family which is different.

Nadeed · 31/08/2024 16:14

Harry has other family. He sees his Aunts on the Spencer side and is close to Eugenie.

Nadeed · 31/08/2024 16:17

It is strange how some people think the only family that should count for Harry is his father, brother and sister in law. And so they declare he does not see his family. When all the evidence is that he sees plenty of family.
He sees his mum's side of the family, especially his Aunts. They have visited in California. He sees his cousins Eugenie and Beatrice and their husbands and children. And he sees his wives side of the family.
If you only read those articles that say - the latest terrible things Harry and Meghan have done, then I can see how you would think Harry does not see any of his family. But if you read ordinary news, all of this is reported.

What exactly does your passive aggressive snidy little question mean?

Thank you for that, @smilesy . So sick of the constant distortion of normal (and in this case, sensitive) human interactions.

BarbaraHoward · 31/08/2024 16:24

Those racist incidents were the tip of the iceberg though. Meghan faced constant racism, as much for her nationality as her colour. There were umpteen posts on here lamenting that Harry hadn't married "a nice English rose like Kate", even on this thread someone is on claiming there was nothing wrong with the "Almost Straight Out Of Compton" headline. Just because it's not as blatant as posting a picture of a chimp doesn't mean it isn't racism.

It also doesn't mean Meghan is faultless or blameless, but no one with eyes in their head could deny the racism she faced.

Yes, that was me. I am not white. Explain to me how it's racism.

Janiie · 31/08/2024 16:26

I think it is strange how he is allegedly close to the Spencers and seemingly holds no grudges about how they didn't protect their obviously vulnerable younger sister. It's all KC's fault the arranged marriage when the Spencers were far more complicit as they knew how fragile she was.

I wonder if he's asked Uncle Charles why he wouldn't let her stay on the Althorp estate when she was desperate and needed a bolthole?

I may be wrong but I think Serenster is highlighting the fact that you have used “wives” plural instead of “wife’s”. Not snidey or passive aggressive. Picking up on an amusing grammar fail
