@Nadeed I didn't think people used phrases such as " normal" to describe people nowadays

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:36

My point is there are other options to look smart.

There are indeed. This is a nice picture.

@Nadeed "people come to Edinburgh for the festival and think they understand Scotland". Did you conduct some sort of poll for this? How many people did you interview?

So nice 🙂

Maxima as an example of dressing down! 🤣 If she could wear a tiara to the supermarket she would! And all power to her I say, I think she’s fab and as for that example I would say she looks far more dressed up than Kate at Church, Charlie’s Angels hair, colourful printed dress, big statement belt and strappey high heels, verses somber tweed coat in a muted green with a fedora, try harder.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 27/08/2024 17:52

Imagine if Kate had turned up to a Sunday church service wearing this instead which is not dissimilar to @Nadeed suggestion then posters moaning about her being too dressed up might have a point. Kate looked entirely appropriate for the occasion, can’t believe posters arguing otherwise.

'Kate looked entirely appropriate for the occasion'

She always does. ,

Just a certain English middle class imperialistic attitude I come across.
Even had someone on this thread or another Royal one say I was not a British citizen. Because only white people are British or Scottish.

She is fab! Rocks orange and wears hats like giant Pringles!

I’ve really missed the POW. I haven’t seen a coat dress in ages.

I have not seen this before. It is a nice picture.

That is very, very upsetting for you to have experienced such behaviour.

I always laugh a little because my OH family always dresses in kilts at the drop of a kilt pin but my side being scottish and maori for ages don't.

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 18:20

@pearlfritillary Thanks, appreciated. And I know what you mean! I find it bizarre when I go to America meeting people who tell you they are Scottish, and they have never been there.

Gorgonemilezola · 27/08/2024 18:20

'Even had someone on this thread or another Royal one say I was not a British citizen. Because only white people are British or Scottish'

I don't think anyone did say that. How does anyone know what colour anyone else is on these threads? By osmosis?

You seem to find so much of life rude or bizarre, it must be tiresome

If someone in America tells me they are Scottish I assume they mean they have Scottish heritage, no issue with it

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 18:27

@Manypaws thank you for your comment.

Uricon2 · 27/08/2024 18:31

I'm sorry that you've encountered that attitude @Nadeed, but it certainly isn't one I hold and I would have no time whatsoever for anyone that did.

Nadeed

Even had someone on this thread or another Royal one say I was not a British citizen. Because only white people are British or Scottish.

I don't think it was quite phrased like that.
If it's the thread I recall ("Interesting , albeit scathing, review of the Colombia trip") you replied to a post with:

I did not say she was not well qualified. Nevertheless opinion pieces are often written to be controversial to garner views and comments. And it has worked. Why else would you post an opinion piece from a foreign newspaper not in English if it was not controversial?

Another poster quoted you and added:

Why do people who are not British citizens post such negative things about the RF here ?

You replied, saying:

Why do you think I am not a British citizen? Is it my user name?
I am by the way.

and the other poster replied with:

I don't think I said I was referring to you? I was referring to the many non British people who come on here and show their lack of knowledge by misspellings, wrong phrases, misuse of titles etc.

Colour wasn't mentioned either.

No, I'm not obsessed with royal threads, don't need therapy, head wobbling etc
I just have a good memory for things I read.
