I really don’t think there is a ‘contest’ other than in the minds of parts of the media. One brother will be King in time and the other brother wants to leave a meaningful legacy in his own right. So far both are doing a great job in carving out their own lives. I hope the brothers come to a point in time where they can be friends again. Life is too short to hold on to anger. The media doesn’t help by embroiling itself in their relationship - or lack thereof currently. I think many people in many countries would love to see a sense of family togetherness again with all of the current King’s grandchildren getting to know one another. It would show how a public facing family can overcome its own difficulties if KCIII could bring both brothers into line again. It’s time to stop painting Harry as the black sheep of the family. It hasn’t worked, it just drives more dissent and anti monarchy feeling in the younger generation. If we are to have a King William and a King George then the younger generation do need to see the institution as worth holding onto. As Harry is clearly active on the world stage harnessing his global appeal would be an advantageous move by the current King.

aka Harry's modus vivendi.

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:02

@CathyorClaire so you prefer Frogmore to remain empty for years instead of Charles moving Andrew and Sarah into the property?

pearlfritillary · 27/08/2024 17:09

is this a 'squirrel diversion' thing? The thread kicks off with H&M and ends up with Andrew?

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:11

This is a chat forum. That is how it works. Look at many posts and the discussion meanders. It is not a university essay where we all have to stick to the original question.

Writing one’s emotional journey is good therapy. Seeing as he wanted to communicate with humanity I am pleased he wrote the book with his ghostwriter. I found it honest. Good for him that he was able to support his family financially through his memoir.

Well it doesn't appear to be worked with Harry, does it?!

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:24

At least when William becomes King, I am sure he will not leave large properties like Frogmore House empty. Especially given his commitment to end homelessness.

Not quite sure where you got that but... I'd have preferred not to be misled about the trumpeted full refurb repayment.

I don't care where Prince Charmless lives but if his lardy arse ever does get shifted to Frogmore I don't doubt the deal will include a similar release from rental obligations.

Frogmore is a financial dead weight whether it's occupied or not.

pearlfritillary · 27/08/2024 17:35

ah... I understand. It's not so much six degrees of separation so much a one degree...

can't or won't address issues surrounding Harry's behaviour - let's shuffle over to Andrew!

Likewhatever · 27/08/2024 17:39

CathyorClaire · 27/08/2024 17:00

I think it's unlikely Harold ever paid a penny in rent.

The £2.4m 'repayment' later proved to have 'included' eighteen months rent and even later proved to have released the Henry's from any future rental obligations thus
depleting Crown Estate profits to the detriment of the public purse while saving Harold hundreds of thousands.

Nauseating sleight of hand.

I had my tongue firmly in my cheek. I don’t believe for a minute actual money changed hands.

Imagine supporting your children by trashing others in your family

I thought of that when someone suggested Harry wanted his children to "know him", @PoppysAunt
Each to their own of course, but it's not the sort of behaviour I'd want anyone to know me for, never mind my own child

Well it was empty when Harry and Meghan had the lease.

My god. Can you imagine them ever reading Spare?! 😲

This one poster really reminds me of another one who isn't around any more, snidey and snippy, obviously they all go on the same training course or something.

Eugenie and Jack moved in.
But I am fine with Frogmore lease for Harry and Meghan being ended. I am not fine with this grade 2 listed cottage sitting empty ever since.
Andrew was supposed to move in. He should not have his massive mansion.

Baital · 27/08/2024 17:44

Unfortunately there is this inconvenient thing called 'rule of law' - if Andrew has a lease on a massive mansion he can't be unilaterally made to move.

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:45

@Baital Charles could stop funding his repairs.

It's the arguing black is white that's very amusing. And stating opinions and supposition and rumours as if they're the absolute truth.

Its a great course. They provide brilliant coffee and as much custard creams as you can eat. I had to delay the second part of my training due to the amount of custard creams I was eating.

@Likewhatever the reason given at the time for terminating the Frogmore lease was so Andrew could downsize. And that makes sense. Instead Frogmore is sitting empty all these years later with zero rent being paid. It is a total waste of a sizeable house.
Meanwhile Andrew and Sarah swan around in their mansion and grounds.

Where was that reported?

And “All these years”? The lease was terminated in 2022. Up until then H and M were the tenants. It was up to them to occupy it.

Rhaidimiddim · 27/08/2024 17:53

Gorgonemilezola · 27/08/2024 17:39

Well it was empty when Harry and Meghan had the lease.

Except tgat the York princesses used it (one of them, at least) cos their dad's place obv wasn'n big enough to stay with him. ( Or the roof leaks, and there's damp in the lavs...)

PoppysAunt · 27/08/2024 17:53

Nadeed · 27/08/2024 17:50

Two years and a bit. Feels like longer. Still a beautiful house like Frogmore should not be left empty.
Plans to move Andrew into Frogmore were widely reported. I am feeling extra nice today and even googled it for you.

I'm sure I read that the terms of the lease are that Andrew pays for repairs.

And that he hasn't been keeping his side of the contract, hence the moves to end the lease.

It might be better for Harry if they didn't, PoppysAunt, but I imagine it'll be hard to avoid - after all most people would be interested to read what their dear old dad wrote, especially when lots of truth about his life was promised

Except it has also been reported that Charles funded some repairs.
